All it took was one frat party for me to notice her. Blair Jensen. Gorgeous. Nerd. With a sharp tongue and give-no-shits attitude. The moment she sneered jock at me I was captivated. Then she poured a beer over my head, and walked away like I was nothing. Nobody turned down Cage Wilder, and I knew then that I had to have her, no matter the consequences. She had bruised my ego, and made me look … and made me look horrible in front of all my football buddies turning me into the laughingstock of the team, so I made a bet with them. They claimed there wasn’t anyone that could bed the icy book nerd, but I knew otherwise.
Forcing my way into her life was easy, but shutting off my feelings after we spent many late nights studying together wasn’t and it didn’t take long for me to discover there was so much more to Blair than what everyone saw.
Sweet, funny as hell, and a believer of happily ever afters.
She sees me for more than a football god, and she doesn’t take any of my shit, but the bet I made still hovers over my head, the money burning in my pocket and I know that if I want more with her I’ll have to tell her the truth… before someone else does.
Question is, will she still want me when she finds out what I did?
This is book six in the North Woods Series and is a complete standalone. It contains mature themes, and sexual content not suitable for all readers.

Whoa! Another hit in the Northwoods University series and I love that this one interconnects some with Blackthorn.
Cage and Blair don’t start out on the right foot but you can’t deny the pull they have to each other. Even when they’re at each other’s throats, the chemistry is palpable.
I loved that it doesn’t take Cage long to realize that his decision is not the best and calls off the bet early on. It doesn’t mean there’s not other things brewing. There’s tension, passion, some angst, some humor, and lots of growth to get you through the day. I had to read it all the way through because this is not a book you take a break from.
In the end, I was left with a smile on my face and with a different form of anticipation for what may be in store for Mia.
This is part of a series, but this one is a standalone; now I normally don’t take the advice… even from the author if it says this because normally there are a lot of previous situations that are mentioned and all that jazz. BUT, this is truly a standalone, we do meet previous characters but they are just that side characters. Blair is all about college, the studying and class part, not the partying part. The one time she finally braves going to a party ends with her dumping beer over someone’s head. She is just better off forgetting anything that includes fun and stay in her bubble. Too bad that her new tutor assignment is none other than Cage, the jock whose head she dumped beer over. Now, she has to deal with him trying to charm her out of her pants, problem is she is having a hard time hating him the more she gets to know him. Will she be able to keep him at arms length or will she fall for him?
I really enjoyed this story! With some really amazing drama, this kept me super entertained and sucked in. I could not wait to see how this ended, while at the same time hating that it had to end. I will say I loved that this did NOT play out like I thought it would. I give this 4.5 stars, and now I’m off to find the previous stories.
What a great story! I really love this duo and this series of stand alones has been a recent favorite. I loved stories that have depth yet are contained in one book, and also I love seeing the couples from past books pop up in future ones. I’m also a sucker for the Jock falls for the Nerd troupe, so I got all my needs met in this great read that I was able to finish in a day. Hot alphahole Cage was not my favorite starting out, but I warmed up to him in no time. Blair was sweet at first but you could sense the anguish in her to not follow in her mothers footsteps and be a pushover for any man to walk all over. She had ‘grit’ to her that was refreshing! Can’t wait for more from these two!
This newest release was tamer than their normal stories but it still did not disappoint. It’s a contemporary romance story between a jock and nerd with a hate than love storyline. Blair and Cage’s character are both likable and have a sweet chemistry that grows as feelings okay in their frenemy relationship. I enjoyed this story for its simplicity and ease of read. It was a good addition to the series that you need to start reading today.
3 1/2
Blair and Cage meet at a frat party. He is the typical guy hitting on the hot nerdy girl, so she dumps her beer on his head.
He ends up failing his math class, and his football coach hires Blair to be his tutor.
The storyline was missing the usual darkness, and suspense that the authors are known for. It had a bit of drama, but not a whole lot.
There were some steamy scenes, and I was definitely rooting for Cage and Blairs happy ending.
I cannot wait for more of Mia with the way it ended. Murphy’s book will be good too.

I just adore this series so much! I swear, each book is better than the last. I love how I am captivated by the characters each and every time. These authors have a way of pulling the reader into the story effortlessly. I really love their combined writing style. They mesh so well together. The narration is always smooth and inviting. While I did find some things fairly predictable, I did enjoy the plot of the story. These authors make you want to keep reading, that’s for sure. I always fall so in love with the characters in their books and this was no exception. Blair and Cage were such great characters. They won me over easily. They are relatable and likable characters. I like that they weren’t flawless. They had depth and great character growth. I also very much loved the secondary characters in this book and I hope to see more of them in future books. The romance in this book was one of those romances that is undeniable. Blair and Cage had an immediate connection that the reader could just feel. They had excellent banter and I love the way that they fell in love. I was rooting for them from the start. Overall, this was another fantastic college romance from this writing duo. Their stories always capture my attention and their characters always win over my heart. I can’t wait for more from these two authors!
I loved the book i was hook from the start . Blair and Cage were definitely opposites from each other they had a rough go at the beginning but they eventually fell in love I would give the story five stars
This book has made it as one of my favorites by J. L. Beck and Cassie Hallman. It’s impossible to not be wrapped up immediately in this book. Once the story begins to unfold, it’s fast and keeps your wanting to know more.
This is an intense, gripping and enthralling love story, with a lot of twists and turns that you can’t begin to imagine. It’s full of unconditional love based on a past shared experience, one that has broken their hearts and souls but that themselves can mend, and subsequently heal each other.
A must read. Pick up your copy today…

I Loved This Couple!
Just when I thought that this series could get no better, along come Blair and Cage. These two were like night and day and yet something kept bringing the jock and the nerd together no matter how much one of them fought against it. Giving up everything you know and the future that is planned for you in order to embrace your true self and the one you love takes great courage. I loved this couple. I can’t wait for stories about Murphy and also about Mia.
I read a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
First off, I’m really hoping this series isn’t over yet. I’m not done in this world yet.
Second of all, I went into this expecting one thing and got something else. Not that it’s a complaint or anything, Cage and Blair hooked me from the start and I was rooting for them.
They each have walls way high up, but for different reasons. And I thought this was going to go one way, but luckily it didn’t.
I really love getting lost in a book by this author duo. They’re quickly becoming a pair that when I see they have a new release coming, I get super excited about it.
I received an advance copy of this from Candi Kane PR on behalf of the authors. My opinion has not been influenced.
THE JOCK by JL Beck & C. Hallman is book 6 in the North Woods University Series. This is the story of Cage Wilder and Blair Jensen. I have read the previous book which did add to my enjoyment of this one but I do think you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Blair isn’t the outgoing girl but instead is the book smart girl that doesn’t have much social skills. So when she agrees to go to a small party which turns out to be a frat party she is definitely out of her limits. Then she meets Cage who she ends up turning him down in a way that hurts his ego not to mention making his team mates joke about him. So save face he makes a bet that he can get close to her and take her. Cage is learning though she is a special women who makes him feel so much more. Enjoyed their story and hope to read more from these authors.
In this installment of the North Woods University series, we meet Blair and Cage again. If you’ve read The Nerd, you’ve been introduced to this pair. When Blair and Cage meet up for the first time, the shy nerd Blair stands up to the football god Cage. She doesn’t like him one bit, well a little part of her thinks he’s hot, but she knows better than to get involved with a playboy like him. She’s learned that harsh lesson at a young age, thanks to her mom and her notoriously bad taste in men. Blair knows that as soon as Cage’s finished with her, he’ll move on to the next girl without a second thought. Blair’s not into that, therefore, she’s not into Cage. She’s better off with the characters in her books than someone like Cage, at least that’s how she feels.
Cage’s in shock. He’s never had a girl deny him and do it so publicly. That’s not something he’s likely to forget. Now he’s told that if he doesn’t get his grades up, he’ll lose his spot on the team and lose his football scholarship. He can’t do that at all. With his father breathing down his neck and won’t let up until Cage makes it to the NFL. He’s beaten that into Cage ever since Cage’s mom passed. Being sent to a tutor is his only option. The only problem? Blair’s the tutor Coach has set him up with. After yet another disastrous interaction with Blair, he bets some of his teammates he can get Blair to fall for him. Bragging rights are at stake.
This story is so good! I couldn’t stop reading, I read the whole thing in one day. The writing’s great, the story arc is entertaining, the characters leap out of the pages and drag you along as you see what happens. The chemistry between Blair and Cage is smoldering hot, these have been some of my favorite characters this year. BTW, I need Murphy’s story next. He’s got to come down a few pegs, and it would be nice to see who tames him.
**I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review
This is another great addition to the North Woods Series. I absolutely loved this book. This was a powerful enemies to lovers story. Opposites definitely attract and Cage and Blair could not be more different. However, with each interaction, they discover that they are more alike than first suspected. Their journey to love is turbulent but sweet. This story inspires you to believe in the type of love that is meant to be against all odds. I could not put this book down. I adored the main characters along with the side characters. This writing duo is fantastic and never disappoints. Each book and story just keeps getting better and better. This book is a must read!!!
JL Beck and C Hallman are two of my favorite authors. I’ve read them for quite some time now. I adore their books. I find myself repeating praises because, quite honestly, it’s what they deserve. Their stories are fresh, original, interesting and well written. In one of my earlier reviews of one of their books I asked “In how many different ways can you say these two write excellent books?” It gets to be a bit of a dilemma, this trying to write new and original reviews for these two. They are consistent in their quality.
And here, in The Jock, are the praises going to sound familiar if you’ve read my reviews of their previous works. They are prolific writers, producing excellent stories, and The Jock sits easily with all of the rest.
This story pulled at my heart. I went on a journey with these characters while they grew in spirit and matured into decent adults. I went through their heartaches and their joys. It is an emotional read, rendered very well. Blair and Cage are easy to care for, to root for, to hope for. Their struggles are upsetting. Their story draws you in and holds you close until its sigh worthy conclusion. I loved every page. Highly recommended.
The Jock
North Woods University Book Six
By JL Beck & C Hallman
Blair Jenkins is what most people consider a nerd she loves school, studying, reading and tutoring. She is shy, stays to herself and an introvert. Then she goes against her better judgment when her friend convinces her to go to a frat party. Which leads to a dumped drink and a ill-fated bet and two lives changed forever.
Cage Wilder all star football player mister popular loved by everyone especially the girls that was until Blair. She was the first one to tell him no which caused a scene especially after she dumped a drink on him. That little act set in motion a cascade of events that changed the course of their lives.
This enemies to lovers, nerd jock romance doesn’t follow the typical rules. I didn’t feel so much hate but more misunderstanding and fear. Both were hiding from their turbulent homelife one pretending to be someone they’re not in order to keep the peace while the other was determined to never become like their parent. There is drama, twist, bullying, blackmail with ultimatums, abuse, anger, possessiveness, heartache, awakening and a beautiful budding romance. Their journey wasn’t easy but so worth it by the end.

I didn’t see this book as an enemies to lovers.
Blair and Cage’s story is a bit more complex than that.
Each has a secret they hide from the world.
That secret is what does not let them fully live their lives.
Or appreciate nor want a love relationship with anyone.
I really liked Cage from the moment of meeting him.
I thought he was sweet.
He wasn’t vicious or mean.
Yes he’s definitely a manwhore.
Which he freely admits.
But I thought he was kind.
Blair is a serious no nonsense girl.
Her reasons for the way she is goes really deep.
I liked her strength of character and morals.
She never let peer pressure dictate her actions.
Blair and Cage do have a tension filled connection.
It’s both physical and mental.
They are both exactly what the other needs to heal themselves and one another.
But their lack of communication will complicate their already complicated lives.
I loved how they grew and developed.
Cage and Blair warmed my heart.
And I adorned their best friends.
Murphy was a delight!
I love Cage and Blair. I was laughing from the first glass of beer. Blair, The Nerd, is a straight shooter who is not going to fall for any guys BS especially a jock. Cage is a the alpha of all alphas on the football team. All girls want him and all guys want to be friends with him. He doesn’t understand how the nerd can turn him down. These two had me laughing, swooning, crying and swooning again. I especially loved how Cage’s story unfolded and how he grew a pair when he finally realizes what matters the most. This is another great North Woods University story that grabbed my attention from the start and had me devouring their book.
The moment he saw Blair she intrigued him, stirred something up inside him no other woman ever had, he wanted her plain and simple. He laid down some sure bet lines, turned on his charm, and she turned him down flat… and left him completely shell shocked! Nobody turns down Cage Wilder!
She’s heard all the rumors, witnessed his flirting and attempts to impress the ladies, but she has never dealt with it first hand. Cage Wilder is the big man on campus, the man all the ladies want but can never manage to hold onto. Then one night he saunters onto her path, tries his fancy lines, and she musters all the courage she has and tells him she’s not interested. There is no way she is going to become his next nameless conquest…
Between the pages of The Jock readers will meet a couple thrown together by coincidence, but it’s their undeniable connection that holds them together. These two were about as opposite as two people could be, but their attraction was too strong to ignore. Blair isn’t his usual type of girl, but that is why he liked her so much, she challenged him at every step and made him want to be a better man. She knew getting involved with him was dangerous for her heart, but promises were made and the kisses were everything… so she took a chance on the campus playboy. Which had me hoping and praying she made the right choice. These two were quite entertaining, from the very first page they had me captivated, and with each that followed the deeper I fell into their complicated world. They may have had an instant connection, but the rest didn’t come so easily for them, there were a lot of obstacles and doubts in their way. I have to say this was another amazing addition to the North Woods University series, it had all the feels, all the steam, and all the drama I could have wanted… I loved every minute of it! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
