This is the second book in the Called by a Viking Series a well-written book that once I read I had to own a copy. A time travel story Rachel comes from the year 2018 from the Chicago area she goes back to Norway in the year 874 to steal valuable jewelry to secure her mother’s kidney transplant. She meets Kolbjorn and now things take a turn she did not expect . I found myself turning pages I had to know what was going to happen. I thoroughly enjoy a good time travel storyline and that is what I got with this jewel. There was action, suspense, danger, and romance mixed into a well-written piece of work. I loved The Fortress of Time and this book is equal to it. I am glad I was able to read straight through I am not sure I could have put it down. This is a must-read book for the new year. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I absolutely loved this book. It takes an original twist to the time travel stories I have read. In the beginning it was slow going. Then after a quarter of the way through the action picked up drastically. Our H/h are desperate people. Kolbjorn is looking to make his father proud enough to be taken into his family as he was born illegitimately and could not be recognized as a true son of the Jarl. Rachel’s mother had kidney cancer and needed treatment and a transplant in order to live. The Viking gods and magic are spun into this story in a way that grabs your attention and does not let you go. Even though this is a quick read, it is totally satisfying. I highly recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Exciting tale: a daughter’s quest and her Viking hero who holds the key to success!
January 2, 2019
4.5 stars
I found this story fast-paced, exciting, and at times steamy, at others heart-breaking. Time travel, muscled Vikings, and an urgent, dangerous quest to save a loved one — a truly enjoyable combination, and complete, despite its shorter length.
What I found strange was the Viking hero’s family name. Kolbjorn, son of Jarl Bjorn, comes from a family that are associated to the wolf, sort of like their totem spirit. Yet their names are variations of the Scandinavian word for BEAR. An anomaly not explained; though perplexing it did not dampen my enjoyment of the plot and love story.
Bear or wolf in name and spirit, Kolbjorn Bjornsson is a super hero with an endless capacity for love and loyalty, and heroine Rachel lucky to find him (with a strategic nudge from the Norn, the Viking Fates!).;-)
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Must read if you love time travel. But with Vikings, OMG
This story begins in Buskeland, Norway July 874 AD. Kolbjorn is 25 and a strong Viking who is a unwanted and used son of the Jarl Bjorn, so he always tries do everything asked of him. Also the Jarl’s two legitimate sons Alfarr and Ebbe constantly downgrades Kolbjorn and tries to abuse him although unbeknownst to the Jarl.
Now we jump to Chicago on September 2018 and Rachel is setting on a bench wondering how she will get the $200,00.00 for her mother to get a donor kidney. They have no insurance to cover that. As she is worrying three ladies set on the bench with her and they make a comment to her and leave. Then she looks down and sees a gold spindle and goes to offer it back to the ladies and they are nowhere around her. Then she reappears in Norway. So that begins the soon to be jewelry escapade and romance with Kolbjorn. This story has a very happy ending.

I am so excited to read this story another excellent storyline easy to follow and found it to build up steam and leaves you satisfied at the end of the story.
I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I think the author does a good job developing likeable characters and strong females. I also love her ability to create chemistry between her characters and sharing that feeling with the reader. I was not a fan of how quickly the characters fell in love, you never got to understand why they liked each other, it just was. Also, I think she needs to work on character development to create more complex characters. For example, the bad guys always are bad guys. The brother’s ‘evilness’ was tiptoeing to be over the top. It worked in this book, but real people don’t have a clear line of bad or good. A good example would be the author’s hero from the first book. He had a personal inner struggle between what he recongnized as bad and good. I would like to see the author develop that within her other characters as well. Overall, this book is definitely worth the read. I look forward to what Mariah Stone produces next. Will definitely be purchasing her future books and hope to see her develop her skills.

In Mariah Stone’s “The Jewel of Time”, the heroine, Rachel must make a decision on how to help her very ill mother financially. In a unexpected turn of events, she is sent in the distant past on another continent where she meets a man, Kolbjorn. Can he grow beyond his rigid upbringing and face the demeaning ways of his father? Can he recognize the good man, he already is and become the hero, Rachel needs.
I enjoyed this time travel novella.

I enjoyed this time-travel romance & although all the ones I have read previously in this genre have taken place in the Scottish highlands, this look at Viking life & culture was a refreshing change. The characters were likeable & the story engaging. I was immediately drawn into the plot & loved the ending.
‘m not really sure how to rate this book. I love time travel but was happy that a ton of time wasn’t spent trying to justify or explain the time travel. There were a lot of things that bothered me. Some modern terms that Kolbjorn used that he shouldn’t have known and he was remarkably calm for meeting someone from the 21st century. I also didn’t like his father or brothers and found the whole father manipulating the son thing to be distasteful. I understood Rachel’s motivation to save her mother but I was surprised that she had to come back several times for $200,000 which isn’t a ton of money. She should have been able to sell one piece and get that and more. While those things irritated me, I still enjoyed the story. There were some pat answers and insta-love but it was a fast and fun read if you can suspend common sense. She was NOT TSTL so that made it a fun read rather than a chore. No cliffhanger and a great HEA. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
ONE CAPTIVATING READ!!!
Wow! Talk about back to the future. If you’re looking for a fast paced, pulse racing, heart pounding, smooth flowing, page turning dynamo that gets your motor running and captures your attention from start to finish. Congrats my friends you’ve come to the right place. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it’s easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. The chemistry between the two main characters was white hot, off the charts, explosive. Things get a little sticky, but man what a way to go. A word of advice when you get your copy. These two are like dynamite when it comes to getting down and a little dirty. Your mind tells you to run before it explodes, but its like a train wreck, you can’t look away. Yeah, this is definitely a one click read. Mariah did an amazing job bringing this read to life. Remarkable job Mariah, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
