The first book in a lovable British cozy series. Mrs. Jeffries is set in Victorian London. She is the housekeeper for Detective Inspector Gerald Witherspoon. Witherspoon is a sweet man who has missed the fact that Mrs Jeffries and the rest of his staff help him capture murderers. This series always hits the ground running, drawing me in quickly, every single time.
Great vintage atmosphere. Lovely characters, interesting situations. You will thoroughly enjoy this.
If you haven’t read the Mrs. Jefferies series – START NOW!! They are the best cozies going. You have a whole wonderful list of cases to look forward to enjoying.
The characters become family as they help their employer solve cases and they grow together over the many years.
I love these books. The only problem is that they are not on Kindle Unlimited and are expensive for my budget.
The author really makes his twists and turns.
I loved the characters and was kept interested by their individual personalities. Fun, page turner.
I love the characters and an excellent plot. I will be reading more of this series.
Reminded me of a female Jeeves. Fun.
FUN read take your mind off of things
This was a very easy read with great characters. Very clean and entertaining mysteries. Excited to read more in this series.
I enjoyed this book very much! I have read a number of the Mrs. Jeffries books and liked all of them!!
What can I say other than this was exactly what I expected and wanted…a fun Victorian-era mystery. It was enjoyable, easy-to-read, and had a terrific premise.
This isn’t your usual whip-smart detective with uncanny skills and his bumbling sidekick. Instead, the inspector is a bit of a dunce while his housekeeper, Mrs. Jeffries, is the one truly solving the mysteries he’s been assigned to. With help from the other “downstairs” staff, she makes sure her Inspector gets the killer.
I suppose there could have been a bit more tension, and the “the murder victim was a blackmailer” has been done SO many times it’s almost cliche, but it was still a fun romp through a London murder mystery.
A fun, fast paced cozy mystery that reminds me a lot of Agatha Christies Miss Marple series. It has a lot suspects to choose from, good characters and twists to keep you reading.
It was a light mystery. It’s a good book to read when you don’t want to add extra stress and emotion in your life, but would like a little diversion.
Cozy with a twist. I’ve read two of these out of sequence and enjoyed both.
First in the series and not as strong as some of the later books when the characters are more developed, but still a good introduction to Mrs. J and the household crime solvers.
Book was very good. I was rivited to finish it cause I wanted to know the results (which I will not tell). The book did have a “twist” and that was the people that worked for him and how they put it together. The author was very good to have the players come up with results.
I would recommend this book. I’m on the second book, now. I do plan on reading all 32 (?) Of them.
The first Mrs. Jeffries book in this series, it was a fun read, full of things that are most likely unrealistic; however, it was read (second time) just for the remembering after reading all the others. There is never any real danger and it is a quick read, as predictable as a summer rain – sweet, gentle and the bad guy gets his in the end – or is the bad girl? I’ll never tell!
I found myself annoyed by the ignorance of the supposed main character and the fact that everyone except he recognized it.
Wonderful light read. Great for summer reading.
