This was my first dive into fantasy with dragons/elves/dwarves/middle earth and I haven’t looked back. It was so captivating and just gave me another avenue my adventures could take me. I absolutely loved this series!
I mean to reread this entire series like Ian Mckellin rereads the Lord of the Rings every year. I will get to it over the summer like I usually do with high school 2 years ago and college now.
I think it is a great series for readers going for bigger and action-packed books.
LOVE ALL HIS BOOKS….very original.
This was the first dragon rider book I read. I loved the entire series. Read it out loud to my kids and we stayed up late many a nights to read.
Read them all, enjoyed every one!
Eragon: January 14-26, 2016
Second time reading this. It surely does hold up. The characters are mostly likeable. The descriptions of the lands allow the reader to “see” everything very clearly.
I love Saphira. I think she is used to add a bit of levity when it’s needed. I can see definite influence of Tolkien, that is in no way a bad thing.
This girl loves her Tolkien.
Eldest: Jan 26 – Feb 16, 2016
Things can be better the second time around. Could life possibly kick a person harder when they’re down? Poor Roran, and Eragon.
I loved the imagery of Ellesmera, the tree houses sound so cool. Wish I could visit.
Brisingr: Feb 16 – Mar 12, 2016
Don’t like the turn Nasuada’s character is taking, becoming a dictator. Lots of tears shed during this one. Too many losses.
A few laughs to be had also. Terrific installment to the tale. Looking forward to the conclusion.
Inheritance: Mar 12 – Apr 10, 2016
The recap is brilliant. The entire true names thing was kind of neat, until we learn that they are not always just a word, but rather they could be a paragraph long.
I didn’t think it was really necessary to give detailed accounts of ever fight. Especially when after having reached the finale, the remainder of the book moves at quite a pace.
I found it a bit annoying that there’s no clearly established time line. I get the impression that it’s taken years for it all to have happened.
Hopping maggots! Giant snails! Skin crawling, well done.
This was the best series of its type that I’ve read since The Lord of the Rings. That is incredibly high praise but it is well deserved. It captured me from the very first book. The story line, the characters, the epic struggle are fantastic. It’s an intelligently written book that is accessible to younger readers as well as more mature, aka older readers (like myself). The blending of different species, i.e. elves, humans, dwarves, dragons, werecats, etc. was phenomenal. The battle scenes were great and not overly drawn out, which can sometimes happen. It’s even more impressive when you consider that Christopher Paolini published the first book in the cycle when he was still a teenager. It will stand up as one of the great, epic adventure/fantasy novels for decades to come. For about thirty years, I used to read The Lord of the Rings ever seven years or so. I’m going to put The Inheritance Cycle into a similar track. I can’t recommend it enough.
This series was an amazing series and well worth my time. Each book gets longer and better than the last. I loved how Christopher Paolini really used his imagination to make these 4 incredible books. A few of my friends and I read them together, and for months afterwards(even a year later) we were still talking about them. We just couldn’t stop. The books have a lot of twist, turns, and surprises. Their is a bit of romance and some sadness, but altogether, it is just a wonderful book.
I really love the Eragon series!! I wish they hadn’t incorporated all of the books into one movie and I really hope the redo the movie in series format
I enjoyed them. Wanted more!
This book made Christopher Paolini one of the greatest epic fantasy authors ever! With it’s fast paced action, vivid story telling this book will have you on the edge of your seat throughout this roller coaster ride.
I am speechless…
Exceptional Series
A great book for teens and young adults who are looking for an adventure. The story follows a farm boy who becomes a heroic dragon rider meeting elves, dwarves, werecats, and other creatures along the way.
