Rereading this now back to back with Vampire Academy, I feel like this series is weaker than I remember it being. It’s got the same will-they-or-won’t-they-vibes and I’m ready for the relationships to get moving. Sydney needs to decide what she actually wants here. Hopefully in the next one
Loved this book! So much better then the last so looking forward to the next one.
There are times that I wanted to slap Sydney, but I like that she is now taking things into her own hands.
I like that she is practicing magic for both offence and defense. I love her teacher and I hope we see a lot more of her in the next books.
Jill needs to back off Sydney, I get that she is protective of Adrian but come on!
I don’t think we have seen the last of Marcus, and I am interested in Wolf.
The twist at the end there well I wonder what is going to with all this.
I also love that Adrian knew Sydney through and through. 😉
Really enjoying the narration.
I love this book; I heard many people talking about Richelle Mead, but I avoid over-hyped authors. I read a little of The Vampire Academy and liked it so I decided for myself that I wanted to read her books. I hate over-hyped books they are crappy, which is why I didn’t like A Court Of Thorn and Roses. But like I said over hyping them makes them worse than they are.
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEN IS THE NEXT BOOK COMING OUT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I had requested an ARC of The Indigo Spell but since it didn’t arrive on time, I purchased the audiobook on release day and started listening to it immediately. If you’re not familiar, The Indigo Spell is the third installment in the Bloodlines series, which is a spinoff series from the Vampire Academy series. I loved the Vampire Academy series and when that ended and Bloodlines was announced, I honestly wasn’t sure how I would like it. I really wasn’t a big fan of Sydney Sage as a character but I LOVED Adrian Ivashkov. Since he made the transition to Bloodlines along with Sydney, I gave it a shot. I wasn’t blown away by Bloodlines (Bloodlines #1) but I ended up totally hooked with The Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2). Out of the series so far, I can now say The Indigo Spell was by far my favorite installment and there’s a lot of reasons why.
One reason I want to mention is Sydney’s little eating disorder. It’s played out in the first two books as “normal” and that irritated the hell out of me. Finally, in The Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2), Adrian calls Sydney out on the carpet over it, basically telling her she’s dangerously close to an eating disorder (dangerously close my ass) and that she could stand to gain a few pounds. Well, in The Indigo Spell, Sydney really took those comments to heart and did something about it. THANK THE GODS!!! Had she not, I was fully prepared to write Richelle Mead a piece of hate mail in which I demanded that the next book include a scene in which Adrian holds Sydney down and force-feeds her a damned cheeseburger. And a chocolate shake from McDonald’s. Such an infuriating part of the storyline. The Indigo Spell seems to have put an end to that and I couldn’t be happier.
We finally get the answer to the question that has been haunting all of us fans for the last year – Who is Marcus Finch? I can say that this storyline did not go the way I expected. At all. BUT I am ok with that. Even though it didn’t go in the most predictable route, I loved the way it did go. I dont want to say anything about what I mean due to spoilers so you’ll just have to go buy the book and get reading!!
As with all of her writing, Richelle Mead spun a great mystery in The Indigo Spell. I didn’t find that one at all predictable, which was a smallish problem in the first two books. Not that I knew how they were going to go from page one but mid-way through the books, I had an idea. That was not the case at all with The Indigo Spell. I was really happen with the surprises this one packed. It kept me guessing all the way through.
Once again, we have a great cast of characters. I have really grown to love Sydney, my major point of contention with her now seeming to be a thing of the past. She’s smart and resourceful and has become a lot of fun to read. Adrian is Adrian. I have loved him from the very first time I was introduced to him in the Vampire Academy series. He’s a witty and fun character and he keeps things interesting. Jill was starting to irritate me but she proved to be the sound voice of reason in The Indigo Spell and I admire her a lot for her wisdom in this one. We even got a few Vampire Academy alums that make a quick cameo in this book. That was kind of fun to have and really made me miss the characters a lot.
I know you’re all wondering what has happened with the Sydney and Adrian non-romance romance but I am not going to speak on it. It will ruin quite a bit of story line for you and TRUST ME, you want to experience this for yourself. I will tell you that The Indigo Spell featured one of the hottest non-sex scenes I have ever read!!
I am giving The Indigo Spell a solid 5 stars. Most definitely the best installment in the series thus far and I cant wait to see where Sydney’s story line goes!
I loved watching Sydney start to embrace her magical nature, it was very exciting! I didn’t care for the possible love triangle, but I have strong faith that Sydney and Adrian will make things work.
I feel like the Bloodlines series really begins to hit its stride with The Indigo Spell. On all fronts, actually. The overall storyline is progressing nicely and so is the romance. *big cheesy grin* I’m hopelessly addicted and, as of the time I’m writing this review, thoroughly entranced by the next book, The Fiery Heart.
But, The Indigo Spell. We learn a lot during this book. Pieces are beginning to click into place. Sydney continues to grow and mature, and maybe most importantly, question everything. Adrian continues to be his ridiculously amazing and charming self. I love when the “bad boy” gets all mushy over a girl. I can’t help it. Granted, she does a pretty good job of pushing back for awhile, but I was ok with it. He needs to work for it anyhow. That’s how you know it’s real and worth it.
Man, I forgot just how much I loved this series. I’m so glad I decided to jump back in. I probably sound like a broken record, but I don’t really care. Once I finish this reread, I might have to go back and reread the Vampire Academy books too. I’m just in that kind of mood.
FAVORITE QUOTES
“Well, you can think what you want, so long as you remember—no matter how ordinary things seem between us—I’m still here, still in love with you, and care about you more than any other guy, evil or otherwise, ever will.”
“I don’t care if you say we can’t be together. I don’t care if you think I’m the most evil, unnatural creature walking on earth. You can think whatever you want, go whatever you want. I’m going to just go on loving you, even if it’s hopeless.”
You just can not go wrong with a Richelle Mead book. This was no exception. I was riveted the whole way through. The increase in magic was fun for me, I’ve always love that aspect of the supernatural. I was also happy to see Sydney questioning some of the things she’s always believed. It’s exciting to see her growing up, maturing and learning that it doesn’t have to be black and white, there are shades of grey. I fall for Adrian a little more with each book that he’s in, and Jill is really growing up. I’m very anxious for the fourth book to see how the dynamic changes with the cliffhanger we were left with.
