Lady Edith Balfour has not eloped with her dearest friend, Lord Rotherham. But persuading him, her family, and her own heart to believe that is proving unexpectedly difficult… gentleman.
The only person who truly understand her dreams is Lord Rotherham, her closest friend and confidant. Nathaniel would be everything Edith needed, if only his own dreams were not so firmly rooted in England. As it is, Edith wouldn’t risk losing his friendship for anything – no matter what wonderful feelings he stirs inside her.
Nathaniel Townsend, the young Viscount Rotherham, has striven for years to escape from his guardian’s restrictive influence. Ambitious and determined, he means to become a powerful force in the House of Lords. Edith’s friendship is the only thing that has ever soothed his frustrated soul. He knows that one day she’ll break free of London society – and he dreads to think how much he’ll miss her.
When a family emergency forces Edith to travel north alone, Nathaniel defies his guardian to accompany her. It’s an adventure that could cost him dearly, but he is determined to declare his independence at last. Besides, he has never been able to say no to Edith’s sparkling eyes or dimpled smile.
It’s not an elopement. It’s simply two good friends enjoying an adventure together. And, perhaps, indulging in one or two dangerously delicious kisses…
This is the third book in the series The Impossible Balfours. You do not have to read the other books to enjoy this one, but there are some connections between the books which will reward readers of the whole series.

Accident prone Lady Edith Balfour has been close friends with Nathaniel Townsend, Viscount Rotherham for years when her sister is taken ill in Matlock Edith offers to travel there to help her Aunt Ursula nurse Isobel. Nathaniel offers to take Edith & her footman to the coaching inn in Barnet but an altercation there makes Nathaniel decide to accompany her to Matlock defying his Uncle Adolphus.

I must say I’m loving the Balfour siblings’ stories & was looking forward to Edith’s story. She’s the clumsy accident prone sister who broke a vase that led to her best friend Daisy marrying her brother Alex. I thought at the start of the story that both Nathaniel & Edith were immature but as the story progressed they grew up especially Nathaniel who came to realise that his uncle only wanted the best for him & I loved how his relationship with Adolphus grew. I also loved how Edith & Nathaniel’s relationship changed from dearest friends to being in love. A lovely traditional romance, that drew me in from the start & left me with a smile on my face. I look forward to Selina & Isobel finding love
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
A nice, light romance, but not quite as engaging as books 1 and 2 of this series.
This takes the reader along on a road trip. The experiences of the rather young main characters – Nathaniel is 23, Edith younger – serve to mature them. This is the first time Edith travels and she realizes, maybe her dream of adventure is not really what she needs.

This is the latest book in the series of the Balfour family. All the essential elements are here (ballrooms, gowns, carriages and often-restrictive societal rules), but the heroine, Edith, is refreshingly awkward and clumsy, as well as honest and open in her desire for adventure and her perfect imaginary prince. Of course, she finds him, but not quite where she expected.
Gemma Blackwood’s stories are always well-written and a pleasure to read. I’m already looking forward to the next instalment – there are two more Balfour sisters awaiting their own adventure, after all…

A great romp of two best friends. Edith and Nathaniel grew up together and support each other throughout. Watch them go through the ups and downs (mostly downs) of travel by carriage as they seek to get Edith to Matlock to care for her ill sister, Isobel. A fist fight in the Post yard, a broken carriage, a ride on a potato cart add to the trip. The constant care for others abounds – each other, families, the future. Family love prevails.I re

I loved this excellent book, Edith and Nathaniel have so much chemistry, even though Edith doesn’t want to get married. I loved this book from the very beginning of this book. There is so much drama, chemistry, surprises, and so much more. It was like I was in my own world while reading.

A wonderfully written story about the accident prone Edith Balfour and her best friend Duke of Rotherham, Nathaniel Townsend. Their friendship was well described with much bantering and teasing between them. They had a very lighthearted relationship that was a joy to read about. However, one fateful carriage ride accident changed it all into something more serious. Then another twist turned into a heart wrenching situation that separated them. I wished I could have reached into this story and shook the both of them to make them see reason. I didn’t have to wait long for them to finally realize they would do anything for each other including giving up their dreams for something much more important, their love for one another.
Gemma Blackwood does it again! I love this whole series and at 0.99 each you can’t go wrong.
Very good book, it has it all, romance, adventure and of course, problems. The book is well written and the characters are believable. I enjoyed the way Edith and Lord Rotherham each had trouble getting their family to understand what they wanted.

This is a lovely addition to the Impossible Balfours Series by Gemma Blackwood. Edith our heroine and Nathaniel our hero are wonderful characters and of course you get to see how the characters from the first two books are faring even though this can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed the story so much and particularly the way Nathaniel and Edith grew and matured as they navigated the relationship and fell in love. They are such delightful and interesting characters and watching their friendship develop into love was so sweet. If ever two people were meant for one another, these two are the perfect couple. You’ll love the story but I wholeheartedly suggest you start with the beginning of the series because each book gets better and better. Thank you so much Gemma for such a wonder filled reading experience.
This was such a delightful read! When mishap after mishap on a journey throws best friends Edith and Nathaniel alone together, they slowly begin to discover that friendship between them may not be enough anymore. These friends turned lovers have to decide if they are each willing to sacrifice some of their dreams in order to be with the other. I have enjoyed the other books in this series and can’t wait to read the next one!
An amazing story, entertaining, enlightening, heartfelt and lots of emotional conflict and soul searching with unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises and misunderstandings. loved reading this.

What I Really Want
This book was not super sweet in the telling but neither was it boring for which I am very grateful.
Edith is a character that is not always grounded in the world around her but dreaming of things a young lady of her time should not do.
Nathaniel is a character that feels like he is not being treated as an adult but goes against advice because it is not his choice. He listens to his friend sometimes only because she supports him.
In this book the characters will have to make allowances if they wish to be viewed as responsible.
I enjoyed getting to know these characters.

I rounded up 2.5 stars to 3.
The heroine comes across as rather silly for the first half of the story. I feared for a long time that the story would be driven by some stupid silly behaviour of hers. That did not happen but still the story felt very constructed: the reason for the carriage tour, the accident, etc..
The main plot line In the middle of the book was a boring carriage tour of two uninteresting characters. I skipped a lot of text then.
The side characters, his uncle and her family, were very formulaic and stiff in the beginning but fortunately became more human and alive towards the end. They contributed to the nice ending of the story. Towards the end both H and h gained in character through the interaction with their relatives and there was a nice proposal scene with glimpses of witty dialogue.

I read this book, A Viscount is a Girls Best Friend in one sitting … I had to keep reading. Gemma is a natural talent telling a story that is romantic, yet witty and amusing.
Edith and Nathaniel’s story kept me thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
If you’re a fan of clean historical romances that show humour and wit then you’ll love the third book in the Impossible Balfour’s series.
Im looking forward o reading all about Selina’s love story in the next installmen t to the series.

Edith and Nathaniel’s story is delightful. Edith doesn’t want to marry but wants to travel the world. When she gets a taste for adventure will she be able to keep on in her adventures or will she find another path to follow? How about Nathaniel will he be able to find someone who wants to stay home and be a Lord’s wife or will he be able to convince Edith to be his traditional wife? Read this delightful story to find out. Great job Ms. Blackwood.

Gemma Blackwood has once again written a wonderful book. Once you start reading it, you don’t want to put it down! The main characters, Nathaniel and Edith, are lovable, clumsy at times, and young. I like how the main characters from the previous two books in this series are revisited. I would recommend reading the first two books in the series first, but if you don’t choose to do so, this book can stand alone. I highly recommend this book!!!
Edith is an accident-prone sister of a Duke. Her Best Friend is Nathaniel who is under the strict control of his guardian. They are both young and sweet. Nathaniel is always there for Edith. When Edith has to travel to go help her sister who is sick, Nathaniel goes with her – that’s where the fun begins. I really enjoy Gemma Blackwood’s writing style. I smile every time I am done with one of her books.

I really liked Edith and Nathainal’s story. The rather clumsy and accident prone heroine was a nice touch in this friends to lovers romance.
I gave this book a 4.5 star rating.

A delightful story that grabbed me from the first page. A young lady who only wants adventure and to travel and our hero trying to live up to his responsiblities prove to his uncle he can handle his inheritance.
But reality sometimes intrudes and friendship can turn into something more. Such is the case with Edith and Nathaniel, Lord Rotherham. Friends indeed but it seems they understand each other perfectly! What could be better!
When Edith’s sister is taken ill and she needs to go help care for her, Nathaniel decides to accompany her all the way there. Let the adventure begin!
I loved these too and their journey to realizing their friendship has developed into something more! A great addition to this series and cannot wait to read the next one!!
