THE IMPERFECT PSYCHIC: A DUBIOUS DEATH is the debut novel in a charming new cozy mystery series by Ashley King. Charlotte Vale, 30, a psychic from New York City, has a dubious gift—her vision, not always accurate, often leaves her customers more confused than happy. When Charlotte, at a crossroads, gets a vision on what she should do next in life, she follows it, and it leads her to a quaint town … leads her to a quaint town upstate, her beloved cat and companion Oliver by her side. Quiet and peaceful, the town offers the exact escape she needed. And when her own vision leads her to a charming historic for sale, she spontaneously decides to buy it and follow her forever dream of running a bed and breakfast.
But Charlotte is in way over her head. Desperate to keep it running, she is forced to rely on her psychic abilities once again, and decides to open a psychic booth once again. Everything finally seems to be going her way—when a shocking murder puts her right in the middle of the crime.
Now Charlotte must solve the case—or lose her bed and breakfast, her clients, and her future.
A page-turning cozy mystery, packed with mystery, a touch of the supernatural and humor—THE IMPERFECT PSYCHIC is an un-putdownable cozy that will keep you turning pages (and laughing out loud) late into the night.

Charlotte is a meteorologist having a tough week when this story starts! She’s done a great job ignoring her psychic visions but her life’s about to change in big ways. Moving her life forward means embracing her psychic gift and moving for a fresh start. Her new life starts when she moves to Lake Shawnee and decides to buy and old house to fulfill her dream of a bed and breakfast. Little does she know that there is an overzealous city council member not on board with her plan. Before you know it, Charlotte is the main suspect in a murder and her world is turned upside down. Can she rely on her visions and intuition to find the real suspect and clear her name? You’ll only know if you read the book!
Great start to a series! Was a little slow in the beginning but hang in there, it’s all leading to a great conclusion and helping you get to know Charlotte and her back-story. It’s important to where she is going! I love a great mystery and there were plenty of characters and potential suspects to keep you guessing. I’m looking forward to learning more about her new friends and potential love interests in the next book!

I really enjoyed this first book of the series as this new imperfect, yet bold psychic learns to trust her intuition! Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
The story has potential but needs work. The story revolves around a big city meteorologist, Charlotte Vale, working for a weather research center trying to get a software contract with a government agency. In addition, the protagonist also happens to belong to a family of psychics, but her abilities seem somewhat lacking, and her psychic visions not always accurate. Not surprisingly, she makes a bad call at her big presentation and ends up losing her job. Her boyfriend leaves her for greener pastures and she then gets a premonition of her long-lost mother standing on a pier along a lake in a small town. Charlotte decides to pack up her modest belonging and search for her mother and a new life away from the city. The woman impulsively buys a big house hoping to turn it into a bed-and-breakfast, something she always wanted to do only to have it flounder after the grand opening. Charlotte is persuaded into opening a small psychic shop to make ends meet until the B&B takes off. Charlotte makes friends with some of the town’s residents but also she manages to ruffle some town elders’ feathers. One town councilman, in particular, does not like outsiders or undesirable people invading his town and is bent on getting Charlotte shut down. Okay, you know what happens next. The councilman is found dead on Charlotte’s property and Charlotte is the main suspect.
The story was an enjoyable tale and kept my interest throughout, mainly to see how the characters were going to develop. Unfortunately, they didn’t. Although some might consider it a shocker, the ending was flimsy from my point of view and way off the beaten path.
Funny and entertaining
An entertaining light read that kept me interested . A fun story, just what you need today .
THE IMPERFECT PSYCHIC written by Ashley King is a quick fun read. Our imperfect psychic loses her job when her vision is way too cloudy for the weather. Charlotte stumbles into a murder when she is reinventing herself. Our heroine has to solve the murder in order to save her newly established bed and breakfast in upstate New York.
An okay book, couldn’t figure out why if she was opening a bed and breakfast she never advertised it….a loose thread.
Sort of predictable.
This book was a great afternoon read. It held my interest with interesting characters and a bit of who dun it!
Great start of a new series.
Hard to read. Needs a better proofreader or editor. Loved the story, though.
I just never connected with the characters in this book. The story was okay and the characters were ok. It was a really quick read, so I don’t feel like wasted my time reading it.
Easy read. Humorous and easy to read. Enjoyed it!

This book is about a woman who quits her job and finds herself in a small town for a vacation. She wants to start a bed and breakfast in a lakeside house she finds for sale but a zoning commissioner stands in her way. She finds the commissioner dead near her property and decides to investigate.
