I really enjoyed Over The falls, the first book in this series and I excitedly started reading The Impact Zone. The Impact Zone is a great sequel and I like how it has a different couple, but also continues certain plot lines from book 1. I didn’t enjoy it as much as book 1, but I still had a great time reading this and I was happy I got to return to Ryder Bay. It’s interesting how this story starts a bit before the end of book 1 so you get to see some parts again from a different point of view now.
The Impact Zone follows the story of Savannah and Griffin. Savannah is the ex from the male main character in book 1 and at the start of this book she is missing him and would like to get him back, but then she slowly sees his new girlfriend is great for him and she finds love elsewhere. In book 1 I already said I was happy the author didn’t villainize Savannah and that makes sense knowing that she was the main character of book 2.
In The Impact Zone we see how Savannah struggles a bit with how she lost Aidan and now he has moved on and she isn’t sure what to do. Her best friend lies in the hospital and she is a bit lost. I liked seeing how she dealt with everything thrown her way. She really is a good person, putting aside her own feeling to help others. She always was a tad too perfect at times, but she does have her struggles too. I especially liked how she reached out to Harley in this book and they form a tentative friendship. I didn’t feel her love for surfing as much as I experienced in book 1 with Harley, but it was fun to see the surfing theme continue, although it was a less prominent part here.
Then there is Griffin and while I liked him, I think he’s the reason I didn’t fully enjoy this book as much as book 1. He seemed like a great guy, but he just wasn’t as interesting to read about. He has a bit of a sad backstory and he is wondering whether to leave Rydar Bay and that’s basically what a lot of his point of view is about. He loves it here and wants to stay, he has a great job and is falling for Savannah, but he knows he might have to move on. There was no progression for a long time and it just felt a tad repetitive. Then at the end things finally change and it almost seemed to easy, especially knowing how he has been struggling with this for the whole book without progression. And I didn’t get why he never looked into his options. I also am not a whole fun of the will he stay or not plot line in general.
Griffin and Savannah are both quite mature for their age with what they have gone through. I thought it was great to see how they dealt with things, but at times they did behave a bit unlike teenager for that reason, there were a few moment I thought a teenager would never do or say that. But as they are quite mature it does sort of make sense.
Griffin and Savannah made for a great couple and while I didn’t feel their romance as much as Aidan and Savannah, their romance did grow on me and it was obvious they cared about each other a lot. I liked the way the author described the giddy feeling Savannah had when she starts falling for Griffin.
I love the continuity in this series so far. There are plot lines and characters that got introduced in book 1 that play a role in book 2 as well and I liked seeing those plot lines continue. There are also side characters that stay more to the side in book 1 that we get to see more of here. And other side characters that we see from another side in this book. And I was happy we still got to read about Aidan and Harley even tough they aren’t the main characters and we see how they’re doing too. Then there is the plot line surrounding Skylar that seems to continue too and I think she will be the main character for book 3.
To summarize: I was happy to return to Ryder Bay in this second book of the series. There is another couple that becomes the main focus, but the series has a lot of continuity so far and storylines and character from book 1 continue and return here. I liked Savannah she was such a nice character who helped others even at the cost of herself. I liked reading about her, although she was almost too perfect at times, we see how she struggles with things as well. Griffin was a nice enough character, but I wasn’t as interested in his plot line/ backstory. It felt like it got a bit repetitive and didn’t continue much over the course of the book, until at the end it does and it seems almost too easy how it gets solved. Griffin and Savannah made for a great couple and I was happy to see a bit of Aidan and Harley as well in this book. All in all it was a great sequel and I am looking forward to book 3!
We met Savannah and Griffin briefly in the first book of this series, but now we have the opportunity to know these two characters better.
Savannah is a responsible girl, having taken on the role of “mother” at home after her mother’s death. While dealing with her best friend in a coma, she looks for a hobby for the summer and ends up finding passion surfing. She learns to surf with Harley and they become good friends.
Griffin is a nomad fleeing from his past and ending up at Rider Bay. He didn’t expect to feel at home in that place, let alone fall in love with sweet Savannah.
As they get to know each other better, their feelings only increase, but Griffin’s past can ruin their happiness.
Will Griffin be able to overcome the problems of his past and give a chance with Savannah? Or will he have to keep running and leave her behind?
This story is full of emotion, a bit of suspense and romance. I’m already anxious for the next book in this series.
I highly recommend the reading.
The Impact Zone is the second book in Jordan Ford’s Ryder Bay series and I think I found myself falling even more in love with the author’s brilliant storytelling ability. This was a beautifully written and unique tale that wholeheartedly captivated my heart and left me absolutely breathless as I devoured page after page!
Savannah and Griffin’s story took us on an emotional journey full of heartbreaking moments that will stop you right in your tracks. They are two beautiful souls that have lost their way and find themselves again in each other. Savannah is a bit of a wallflower who is trying to cope after the accident of her best friend while Griffin is a nomad who is trying to escape his haunting past. Slowly a romance begins to form and life as they knew it will be forever changed.
This was an abso-freaking-lutely amazing story that had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. It was impossible to put this one down and now I am eagerly anticipating the final book in the series, Face of the Wave. I cannot wait to see what Skylar’s story has to hold!
CAn Savannah and Griffin help each other? Her best friend Skylar is in coma in the hospital and no one knows what happened to her. Griffin is been on the run for the last two years and he is now living and working in Ryder Bay. When they met they feel an instant connection but he can’t stay for long in a place. Will Savannah be the good girl as always or she will she risk and fall for the wrong guy? A powerful story.
The Impact Zone (Ryder Bay #2) is a ya contemporary romance novel that is told in dual pov with a happily forever now as the narrative continues in book 3. This series books tie in with eachother, however each novel follows a different couple. Character’s appear in all the books and mc’s change with each book, narrative continues from the beginning & continues throughout each book.
Savannah Green and Grffin Ayala are two beautiful souls from a contrasting class. Savannah’s character is very sweet-natured wallflower. Griffin’s character is a nomad with a anguished past.
Bursting with suspense & a mystery to solve intricately entwined into a rip-roaring read.
A eye-popping ending to lead into book three, Skylar’s story.
I’m piqued for April for Ryder Bay # 3.
A beautifully written, touching story that will leave you breathless!
I’m not a huge fan of YA fiction, generally. But there is just something about the worlds and the characters that author Jordan Ford brings to life that utterly transfix me. This author does not treat YA fiction with any less care or complexity just because the subjects are younger. Indeed, this book captures the exquisite pain of being a teenager, and explores difficult concepts with sensitivity and ease. I absolutely adored this love story, and can’t wait to find out what happens next.
The Impact Zone is the second book in the Ryder Bay series, and whilst I enjoyed my foray back to Ryder Bay, I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as the first book… and I don’t really know why!
Skylar is still in a coma, and Savannah is drowning in responsibilities. You find out more about Aiden and their break up through Savannah’s eyes, including how she becomes friends with Harley. Savannah is a genuinely nice person, and very mature for her age as life experiences haven’t always been easy. Griffin is the perfect match for her, but he isn’t sure if he will stay in Ryder Bay or not, due to his own story.
With Aiden, Harley, and even Jed, playing a part in this story, I couldn’t help but relax and enjoy as the story moved along. This did feel like a transitional book though, and I think that’s why I didn’t enjoy it as much. Griffin and Savannah get their HFN, but you are left with a major event happening right at the end, which may impact on just who Savannah is exactly.
I still thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to continue the series, AND see how the characters continue to change and grow. I really want them to all be happy, but with some of the darker characters still in play, this isn’t guaranteed! Excellent writing once again, and I’m left wanting more.

This time Harley and Aidan are side characters, this is Savannah and Griffin’s story. Picking up where the last book left us we find life changed for Savvy, her bestie is still in a coma and she has a chance to find herself. By the time the story got to about half way it really took off and I couldn’t put it down. It’s a well written, slightly angst filled teen romance with plenty of dramatic moments and a mystery to solve. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review.
Wow, what a fabulous, powerful, well written story this is, its full of action and caught my interest from the beginning, the storyline kept me intrigued and I wanted to know what would happen next. This storyline is captivating, flows really well, hooks you in and grabs a hold of your heart. It took me through several emotions, I even shed a tear or two. Can’t wait for Skylar’s book.
The Impact Zone is a beautifully written love story with an ongoing mystery and some heart-stopping moments. I absolutely loved Savannah and Griffin’s emotional journey! Griffin’s story is heartbreaking, and I’m glad that he ended up in Ryder Bay surrounded by wonderful people. I was so happy that Harley and Aidan were such a big part of this story. I love the characters in this series and can’t wait to read Skylar’s story!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy.
