The Image Seeker by Amanda Hughes is the second book in her Bold Women of the 20th Century series.
Historical fiction at its well researched best , the author creates word pictures of many aspects of life during the Great Depression, homeless people riding the rails searching for work, hardships of American Indian children and their families involving forced government schooling, and political tensions in the United States and abroad before the 2nd World War. Appealing characters illustrate the best of the human spirit while telling an interesting entertaining story.
Very interesting story about during the Great depression and train jumping. Good historical perspective.
Story of an native American girl (growing up in the depression, dust bowl, riding the rails, ) who overcomes difficulties and grows up to become a photographer at the Olympics in Nazi Germany.
1/31/21- This book really surprised me with its twists and turns. It instantly captured me, and yet took so many unexpected turns. I enjoyed reading about the period before the war and the Berlin olympics, which are not often written about. The character was tenacious, and though some of the secondary characters annoy you, the main character is amazing throughout the story.
A very unique picture of a young woman in a man’s world. She experiences many unexpected episodes showing growth, change, and interesting interplay with character
Great story teller. A woven plot and story line.
This book was fascinating!
What a great story.
Terrific story of grit and perseverance through the most difficult times. The heroine overcomes obstacles cherishing all the difficulties that strengthen her character making her who she is destined to become. Story is filled with interesting characters.
I really loved it because of the history that I learned about more intensely with the characters intertwined.
Was such a great read, you went from the 1920’s to WW11. I didn’t want it to end. Best book I have read this year.
I love historical novels that enable me to learn about an era and about certain pieces of history that are new to me. This book was smashing in terms of enabling me to learn new information through a really well written and very interesting story. I felt very connected to the characters. I loved following their adventures. I admired the courage of the heroine of the story. I don’t want to spoil the story by being too specific. Suffice it to say that this is a book well worth reading if you appreciate different cultures, people being able to overcome obstacles, determination, and courage. A really memorable and wonderful book.
Very good read.
So many interesting characters jumping from chapter to chapter. Wonderful action, my heart was racing for most of the book. You keep turning the page to see what will happen next. A heart wrenching time in history that isn’t written about very often. I enjoyed reading about this “lost” history!
Fabulous! One of the best books I’ve read– EVER!
I loved this book!!
Really enjoyed reading about a time in our history and the struggles of some of that people at that time. I think the redemptive outcome of persistence is good and I look forward to other books in this series.
It taught me as I read about things I’d heard of but not to this degree. Good to read.
I liked this book. It was different and interesting.
