What other readers have to say about The Illegal Gardener …
‘A really intelligent, moving book.’
‘Sensitive with beautifully crafted characters that you really cared about.’
‘The Illegal Gardener’ is a story of betrayal, love, trust and friendship. Not a romance but perhaps a lesson in life on just how young minds can be damaged by spite or thoughtlessness, and how those same minds can be repaired by true friends.’
‘I was captivated from the start unable to put the book down.’
‘The Illegal Gardener’ is a delightful story, filled not only with love of Greece but a deep understanding of the varieties of love which can bring people together.’
‘reminiscent of Remains of the Day.’
‘The author has huge potential and if she keeps writing and developing like this then I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see her name on a future Man Booker list!’
‘A good tale well told. Shades of Steinbeck and Bradbury.’
‘A most charming and sensitive book.’

Great for those of us who enjoy a character development novel rather than only an action-packed one.
This was surprisingly engaging
Loved the characters in this book. Was wanting to read more about them when it ended.
Thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the storyline of this book. Well told and kept me wanting more.
Enjoyable but not great.
I loved this book. Great characters and strong women is always of interest to me. The helping of the less fortunate was interesting because it seems the gardner helped her more than her wages helped him. Looking forward to more of the story.
Recommend for an enjoyable read!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Illegal Gardener. I had not previously considered the impact of illegal immigrants upon a small town or upon the men and women who come into a country without any rights or help from others. If Greece has treated their immigrants so dreadfully in fact, then they should be ashamed of their actions or lack of compassion for …
Did not interest me after starting book.
Heartwarming read with characters that stay with you long after the last page.
This delightful story about two essentially displaced people who find themselves through their gentle relationship had me captured from page one. All of the characters, even those with minor roles, are wonderfully crafted — as you read on, you feel as though you’re involved with people you actually know. The setting is a small village in Greece …
This was a gentle book peopled by very winsome characters. I felt drawn in to their lives and was delighted by the descriptions of daily living in an exotic locale.
Speaks eloquently about preconceived notions or opinions and our habit to jump to conclusions about the poor. Even though the ending is satisfying and happy, it points to the vast majority of poor who never make it out of poverty or the slums. The enlightenment of the main character unfolds slowly, but at least she displays a willingness to …
Have been to this area, so thoroughly enjoy this book. Thought I was not going to enjoy, but the more I read, the more involved I became
I enjoyed this. Do not know exactly how realistic it is. It is a growing in life tale, with 2 people growing to care for each other while changing life perspectives. It is also about some of the perspectives of the life illegal’s immigrants life.
It is entertaining, but sad. The ending promised more life, but it isn’t formula.
My husband and I listened to this book during a long car trip. We were so engrossed we hardly spoke to each other. The author paints such a superb picture of the village and cottage in Greece, the reader experiences it as though there. It is socially contemporary and emotionally disturbing as the lives of illegally immigrants are graphically …
I was pulled into the lives of these characters, couldn’t put it down!
I follow or read Sara Alexi books. I am at 7% read; in another words, I just started to read this book for “Goodread’s” 2017 Challenge.
The above question can not be answered at this time and what are the blocks for; it confused me. I am a Dislexic and have Irlin Syndrome and that is why I use Goggle Chrome.
Thank you for fixing site. Now, the …
A good, easy read. Enjoyed reading it and gained a new perspective on the plight of people who must flee their homes to earn enough money to live on.
Charming characters with insight into class status and refugee behavior.
