This was such a delightful romance! I really liked how the relationship of the characters was built on a solid base of first friendship and then developing into into something more. Alice is such a sweet and charming character and Hugh is protective and kind of quirky and absolutely adorable! I just loved these two together and became invested in their HEA right from the start. This is such a well-written and engaging book, I could not put it down! I have definitely found a new author follow. A very talented author for sure and I will definitely be looking out for her next book!

Book one in The Countess Chronicles series a well written story. By an Author I have not read before I will be watching for more in this series. Hugh Osborne, the Earl of Windemere and Miss Alice Winpole’s story of two people with misunderstandings to sort out, a jealous rival, and romance. A Great start to this series. Alice and Hugh grew up next door to each other but he has always been odd in that he was constantly reading and trying to invent things. When she has her first season he ask her to dance and his enemy since school Alan, The Duke of Cornwell, also dances with her. Alan is trying to get her to fall for him to get back at Hugh which she does only to find out he was only out to ruin her which he does. Hugh steps in to marry her and she thinks her and his mother set the entire thing up and tells him she will never love him. This story has so much going on and at times it was heartbreaking so read but as time goes by she realizes that Hugh really loves her and she loves him.
A friend to lovers gem.
This friend to lovers tale have a young woman Alice just entering society with excitement and wonder. Now what happens is a charmer the Duke of Cornwall seeing our lady wants her. This does not go over well with her friend Hugh the Earl of Windemere because he does not trust the Duke. There is action and danger toward the end but it was an excellent tale and the characters were splendid. Oh I almost forgot there are some rather steamy parts to enjoy too. This is a book I am happy to recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
An absolutely wonderful book by this new author! I liked Alice right away and Hugh was so geeky in his love of math and his inventions! The book was very well-written and the characters seemed to come to life right off the pages! I had read the author’s follow-up short story to this book titled New Year’s Masquerade before I started reading this book so I did have a smidgeon of information regarding Alice and Hugh but it was not enough to spoil my enjoyment of this book in any way. I hope this author has more books planned because I really do enjoy her writing style a great deal!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and a great story development, with lots of twists and turns. A very promising author!
I loved this book! It is well-structured with character development and tension between the main three characters with a satisfying ending. The dialogue flows making it easy to read. Recommend!!
Baron’s daughter Miss Alice Winpole has lived a quiet, sheltered life in the country and now that she’s experiencing her first London season, she can’t believe how well it’s going. She’s making friends and has plenty of suitors, including the Duke of Cornwall, the season’s most eligible bachelor.
Her childhood friend and neighbor Hugh Osborne, the Earl of Windemere, knows the Duke and worries his intentions are less than honorable. But well-intentioned warnings from Hugh and his mother only stoke Alice’s anger and leave Hugh scrambling to protect Alice and perhaps win her for himself before the Duke sees her ruined.
This is probably 3.5, rounded up because the writing is good and this author has a lot of potential. Alice’s willful naivete had me ready to shake her for basically all of the book. I found Hugh to be a charming beta hero, mostly concerned with his inventions, but he was a good man and didn’t deserve the vitriol he got from Alice. Thankfully, Alice did eventually realize she’d gotten both Hugh and the Duke all wrong, though this didn’t immediately put an end to her immature waspishness and she continued to be infuriatingly wishy-washy. Hugh was too easily cowed by others, especially his mother, but I did see why given all the loss in his life and the fact that his mother is his only living relative. I think he deserved better from Alice, which he eventually got, but it was a bit late for me. I also would’ve liked to see more of a true comeuppance for the villain in this story, rather than just a few brief lines on his disgrace. Nonetheless, I think this author has great potential and I look forward to her future works.
