Three novels from a New York Times–bestselling author: an exhilarating adventure that follows a group of human castaways stranded on an icy alien planet. Icy, desolate, and sharply carved by hurricane-force winds, Tran-ky-ky is a terrible place to crash-land. But a botched kidnapping aboard the interstellar transport Antares sends Ethan Frome Fortune and a handful of his fellow travelers tumbling … of his fellow travelers tumbling toward the stormy planet. Stranded and cut off from civilization, the castaways struggle to survive. In this page-turning trilogy, Fortune confronts vicious predators (even the plants want to make a meal of him) and forges an alliance with a native Tran. As he searches for a way off Tran-ky-ky, he helps the Tran gain admission to the Humanx Commonwealth and learns about their troubled history. Just as Fortune accepts that he’ll never escape the harsh planet and acclimates to its relentless winter, he learns that scientists have detected rising temperatures in the atmosphere. This sinister change leads Fortune to a thrilling and unexpected final adventure.

The author takes us to a world that has never existed before except in his imagination. This world is so different that it takes the first 5 chapters before I was captivated by the entire story line. Give it a try and I hope you enjoy it half as much as I did.Happy reading…
ADF creates another unique world that is believable. The world as much as the characters drew me into the story many years ago. I am pleased that it is now available as an e-book.
I read the Trilogy in two days when I finished I wanted more.
Too much sex
I enjoyed the cast of characters!
One of my favorite trilogies by one of my favorite authors.
Read them when they first came out, got this for my grandson.
Great fun read. Well written and entertaining.
Outstanding read, really enjoyed all three in the series
Dated ‘(classic) SF from the ‘70s
So imaginative, a clear consise, new world, so very different from our own. Action packed, with wit and humor.
I wanted more! Three complete books were not enough – having the cast meet Flynx would be a great set of novels.
Alan Dean Foster has a gift for light science fiction. This trilogy is a pleasure to read.
What do you do about an Ice world with a human settlement called Brass Monkey??
It was ok, kept my attention but I’ve read better.
I actually first read this book years ago. I enjoyed it so much the first time I had to get it again so I could re-read it.
A decent Foster series of novels. The first novel is a page turner. The second, is slower, and the third is not nearly as good. But, it completes the trilogy.
The characters are kind of flat, and their adventures are kind of arbitrary. What’s the point of Collette’s character again? The butt of fat jokes? And what’s the alien woman there for? To have weirdly great tits, and then to never have another line of dialogue once the main character makes it clear that he doesn’t actually want to have sex with …
Alan dean foster is a great author abd I’ve read him for decades. I have the print trilogy and wanted them in a convenient format
Very fresh sci-fi. The characters are well rendered and believable. There are some unique concepts of geological time and evolution. Well worth the read.
