“A fast-paced noir thriller. The Ice Maiden deserves a spot at or near the top of your reading list.” –Best ThrillersA serial killer is abducting, torturing, and murdering young women in a small community in central Maine. Seeming to select his victims at random, he acts out the rituals of the Spanish Inquisition before committing their bodies to the sacred waters of nearby Sebec Lake. Anne … sacred waters of nearby Sebec Lake. Anne Quinn, an investigator for the Piscataquis County sheriff’s office, and Detective Douglas Bateman with the Major Crimes Unit of the Maine State Police join forces in tracking him down. Hiding in plain sight, the killer is clearly from the local community and plays a deadly “catch me if you can” game with Quinn and Bateman. He seems determined to humiliate them and demonstrate his superior intellect, leading them to suspect that perhaps there is a deeper motive and purpose behind his string of murders.

Interesting, good read. I ave it a five star because I liked the character development and the challenges of trying to solve the riddle of who was committing these horrific crimes and why. There is some very graphic descriptions in the book of the murders that may be difficult for those who are squeamish.
I enjoyed the book, in that it moved along and kept you guessing of who is this person. I felt that the book was not filled with trivial words and actions. The writer kept on track. I recommend this book to fellow readers looking for a thriller.
Good plot. Well written. Most characters well developed.
A good mystery. I was disappointed that I was wrong about the killer, but read on there is more….
I enjoy murre mysteries but this one was way too graphic for me. Ewwww
That book tought me so much about history. I won’t say what part of history cuz I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I was a very good read and I hope to read more of his books.
Enjoyed this book. Kept me guessing the whole time!
the ending seems to come too soon!
Great read!
I thought this book was great. Very
suspenseful and a real page turner
Was not a page turner for me, Liked the premise of what set the killer on his spree, but the ensuing murders were not written in an interesting way.
This was a great book! I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read another book by B. D. Smith!
a great read, was interesting thru out. And the ending was realistic.
One heck of a great read by an author I will now follow. He does a wonderful job of taking you to a small town in Maine where a sense of dry humor helps keep the people real.
Doug is a detective assigned to work with Anne, a new cop to the area when a woman is found dead…a horrific death that leads to thoughts of serial killers.
This is a great procedural with fully developed characters. You get the flavor of the town as Doug introduces you to the people living there and into his home life or lack of it after his son died and his wife moved on. This is a pretty town with some nice people you begin to care about and watch…telling yourself don’t let her be a victim! Doug and Anne have a nice natural way of talking and working together.
You are taken in and try to figure out which person in this town has a hidden life and it’s not that easy….and shouldn’t be. The graphic autopsies are not for the squeamish. The people are looked at carefully and the clues are there for you to think about. And I thought I figured it out…..but I was wrong.
It’s nice to try a new author that has a strong plot, great characters and an ease with the written word. Write more books as this is a standout police procedural.
