A “sharp and funny romantic tale” (O, the Oprah Magazine) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers.Ellen O’Farrell is a professional hypnotherapist who works out of the eccentric beachfront home she inherited from her grandparents. It’s a nice life, except for her tumultuous relationship history. She’s stoic about it, but at this point, Ellen … She’s stoic about it, but at this point, Ellen wouldn’t mind a lasting one. When she meets Patrick, she’s optimistic. He’s attractive, single, employed, and best of all, he seems to like her back. Then comes that dreaded moment: He thinks they should have a talk.
Braced for the worst, Ellen is pleasantly surprised. It turns out that Patrick’s ex-girlfriend is stalking him. Ellen thinks, Actually, that’s kind of interesting. She’s dating someone worth stalking. She’s intrigued by the woman’s motives. In fact, she’d even love to meet her.
Ellen doesn’t know it, but she already has.

This will be one of my favorite books ever. I didn’t want it to end.
This book did not go the way I thought it would. I had to keep reading to discover what was going to happen to the main characters.
Another good story by Moriarty.
Easy reading.
This book was silly and entertaining. I have some knowledge of hypnotherapy so I was kinda irked by how unethical the lead character was! But then again, I kept reminding myself it was meant to be silly (I hope?). It is fun, light, reading perfect for shelter in place entertainment.
Good light read
You have to suspend some reality checks when you read this book, because the characters are all a Little wacky in their own ways. It sort of dances around interesting questions but with a little Bewitched thrown in.
Not my favorite Leanne Moriarity book but a peaceful and not-too-heavy read during a stressful time.
I would recommend it, but not one of her best
This is one of those books that is hard to put down. It’s complex but pulls you in. The hypnotherapist and her boyfriend’s stalker are the main characters and have quite a dance between them. Not what you would expect and it sometimes made me mad, as it wasn’t always what I would’ve done. But always interesting and the story flowed. Finished this book in record time.
Good read, I like this author. She never disappoints.
Most characters were flat, but relationships grew and ethical issues for deep discussion abounded.
She never disappoints 🙂
This was the first book I read by Liane Moriarty, and it inspired me to read all of her others. It’s funny, it’s a tear-jerker, and it’s ever unpredictable. The author writes characters you learn to love and root for. She’s wonderful at finding a particular type of inexplicable person that the reader didn’t know before (say, a stalker it a hoarder), but by the end of the book, you not only know that character, but you begin to empathize and understand. Finally, this book crates real feeling for a mature woman who is giving up on ever finding love, but then, the possibility arises. Even do, the reader had to keep reading to find out IF it’s actually possible. I loved this book, the feelings it brings out, and will read it again and again!
Not as great as all her others.
Boring read. If you aren’t caught by the first 2 chapters, it’s not worth the read.
I like all of her books because they are very intricate and the characters are very interesting
Love this author
Liane Moriarty is one of my favorite writers. I have read all of her books. Her characters are always well-drawn and the plots keep me turning the page.
I probably give out five stars too easily, but I really liked this book. I read it over the Christmas and New Year holiday, when all I wanted was “escape.” It was perfect for that, or for a beach read, or just a “curl up under the covers with your cat” kind of book. The characters are well developed, and one even finds oneself drawn to the stalker. The hypnotist’s point of view was the best. I loved Ellen’s character and the way she changed as the world she was so in control of started filling with chaos. A tender, sweet, novel that will leave you satisfied at the end.
I love all of Liane Moriarty’s books
