THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER FROM THE AUTHOR OF BIG LITTLE LIES. One of the Best Books of the Year—Entertainment Weekly One of the Top Ten Books of the Year—People At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read… Cecilia,
If you’re reading this, then I’ve died…
Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not only the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. And then imagine that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive…
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. But that letter is about to change everything—and not just for her. There are other women who barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they, too, are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

I had trouble getting started with this book because the first few chapters kept introducing a new cast of characters, but eventually I was able to keep them all straight. The story was good and exceptionally well-written, but the characters were not very likable. I also had a plot issue. After Cecilia discovered the letter, the next time her mother-in-law saw her, she knew. I guess we’re supposed to believe she figured it out because Cecilia was so distraught, but there are a million reasons why Cecilia could have been distraught. It just didn’t make sense. Also, the epilogue telling how things would have been different had John Paul not killed Janie was strange. I still give it a four stars because I enjoyed it for the most part.
One of her best books.
Love all her books.
I love Liane Moriarty books but this one was her best, it took my breathe away. I watch a series on HBO about one of her other books but they should do it for this one, I think it would blow everyone away!
I really enjoyed it.
It got me thinking to do keep your husbands secret or do you tell the truth. It wasn’t a situation I would ever want to be in.
I have absolutely loved the other Liane Moriarty books I have read, but not this one. I especially disliked the ending.
I love Liane Moriarty.
Liane Moriarty knows how to keep your interest, to the point where you don’t want to put the book down! Great characters (though some of them are rather one-dimensional) , lots of humorous snarky dialogue, a compelling story – this book has it all.
This was so well written I was immediately engrossed in the story and was super shocked at the ending! Well done!
I loved this book.
Wonderful story!!! Loved every second of it.
I liked this book. There were some surprises. The author’s “after word” was interesting and very unexpected. I recommend.
3.5 stars
I wanted to love this in the way that I loved Big,little lies and The Hypnotist’s Love Story but I just didn’t. It started so slow and there were a decent amount of POVs to keep up with. I normally do not have a problem following multiple characters but when they all have the exact voice it gets annoying on confusing. For the first part of this all the characters melted into one blur and then we had a break fromeveryone else to meet Janie. Now Janie has a distinctive voice but that is not all that happens when we meet Janie, Liane does something a bit different in this novel. She starts to play a game of “What if” from time to time. Kind of like if so and so hd not done this then this would have happened. That made the book more interesting and kept me reading.
Now on to the husband’s secret… what would you do if you found a letter from your husband that read on the envelope “Only open after my death”.Would you open it sooner? I am not sure if I would. Not sure I would want to know. It feels much like reading someone’s private texts or e-mails. Wrong in some way. Of course who really knows what they would do. I do know that the big secret in the letter is more than likely exactly what you thought it would be…
I have to say I did not like Rachel even though I tried. Cecilia was hit or miss for me, sometimes I liked her and sometimes not. I did like Tess a lot after I got to know her. That being said I was not happy with the end because I hated the choices that every character made at the end. I would like to believe I would not choose the options these characters chose.
We read it for book club great characters
I liked it, but not as much as big little lies.
Gina A Jones has created this story with so many lies, so much deception and Jonas Fairbanks has woven it all together to hold on to the naive Julia Ellis. Julia clings to it all, making excuses for her doubt. She so wants the truth for herself and the innocent Sidney who is in the middle of this suspense filled mystery.
Will move on to the Secret Enemy to hopefully get answers.
Could not put it down. The title is catchy but the plot is absolutely amazing. A must read.
Great book!
I’ve enjoyed several of Lian Moriarty’s novels, but The Husband’s Secret requires too much dispersion of disbelief.
