THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER FROM THE AUTHOR OF BIG LITTLE LIES. One of the Best Books of the Year—Entertainment Weekly One of the Top Ten Books of the Year—People At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read… Cecilia,
If you’re reading this, then I’ve died…
Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not only the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. And then imagine that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive…
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. But that letter is about to change everything—and not just for her. There are other women who barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they, too, are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

Love the way she writes
I can’t even imagine being in the situation in which the wife finds herself in this novel, but the authors portrayal of how that secret would manifest in the characters was incredible. I could not stop turning pages. There is a curious hope and inspiration, even in the midst of the tragedy. Super read!
Maybe I give out five stars too easily, but I really liked this book. Liane Moriarty creates really good characters, and weaves in a compelling story that kept me up too late at night for “just one more chapter.” The book’s beginning is very good, with a hook that kept me reading to find out what the husband’s secret really was. Then, once I found out, I wondered (as a writer) how on earth she was going to pull it all together for a satisfying ending. But she does! She also does a remarkable job of weaving in the lives of several different families, and what impact this secret has on each. The is a great read if you are looking for something not too heavy and with likable characters. While it deals with some sad issues (okay…some of VERY sad but I wouldn’t call this a “dark” book), Moriarity balances it with enough “real life” family stuff that you can get through it without too many tissues. I recommend this read!
“Life wasn’t black and white.” It’s easy to say from the outside looking in what is right versus wrong. It’s difficult to live it.
The Husband’s Secret is well-written and thought provoking. Tess, Rachel, and Cecilia make questionable decisions based on the secret of one man. I can see that this book is extremely plausible, however, it’s hard to swallow. There are lies built on half-truths built on secrets and there are no winners.
I quit reading about halfway through. I looked at the end, and thought, yep that’s what I thought.
The story was well written as usual for this writer, but the characters are all sad people.
One of her better ones. This also is going to made a series or movie, not sure which, just like Big Little Lies!
This book is not what you think. I couldn’t put it down.
Great read. Hard to put down.
Moriarty has a flair for the dramatic and an amazing ability to twist a plot. I feel like anything I say about the book would be a spoiler, so let’s just leave it as you should definitely read this book.
Excellent!
“None of us ever know all the possible courses our lives could have and maybe should have taken. It’s probably just as well. Some secrets are meant to stay secrets forever. Just as Pandora.”
I’ve loved this writer since Big Little Lies. The way she writes her ‘whodunnits’ is outside the norm making it more engaging. Unlike Big Little Lies however, the story isn’t leading up to a murder, the murder happened twenty years or so prior to the present story.
It follows several women all connected in subtle ways: the victim Janie back in 1984 and her mother Rachel in present day, along with Cecilia-the wife of the murderer- and Tess the ‘girlfriend’ of the suspected-yet-innocent murderer. I sincerely enjoyed this book though it was more of a four star book until the end which left me gasping at the brilliant irony of it all!
Though for the most part this story did make me think about the possible paths untaken in my own life, there were some parts of this story that seemed unnecessary, such as Tess’s whole presence in the book. That felt like more a side story than anything. Her husbands half-affair with her cousin and her fleeing to visit her mother and reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend Conner (who I felt sorry for throughout the entire story BTW because he did nothing wrong and yet seemed to suffer the most) just seemed completely unconnected to Janie’s murder. It just added to the drama portion of the story, not that I’m complaining.
It takes a couple of chapters to get the feel of this book. After that, a pleasure to read.
Highly recommend this book.
Very different plot
Great story.
Love this author
A page turner and original characters. Could have done without all of the tie ins and twists at the very end.
Fun, easy read.
This book really kept me reading. Didn’t want to put it down.
Her books are always a good read and this was no exception.
