I was pulled into this story by the title. It raised questions in my mind and set me off on a journey of discovery. There are several characters whose lives are interwove, and the author goes back and forth between them. The more I read, the more mysterious the story – awesome! The secrets were told or unraveled themselves in a curious and delightful way. And…I absolutely loved the epilogue. While it’s not usually an exciting part of the book, Liane wraps up the story in an unusual “what if?” way. She starts with “There are so many secrets about our lives we’ll never know.” That line sums up the book perfectly.
Lots of surprises!
I read this book at the recommendation of a friend. The story drew me in to the point that it was a one nighter. I had to know how it was going to end. I was a little disappointed with how it ended, but I understand why it had to be that way. Overall, it was a great experience and I hope others get to enjoy this one.
Well crafted tale of intermingled lives of three interesting women. Easy to root for all of them. Interesting how it all turns out–lots happens even after the reveal of the eponymous secret. Look elsewhere for a symopsis. Give this one a try. An enjoyable read.
Well written. Great plot. Should make an excellent movie. Good mystery.
Lots of twists and turns into relationships both known and unknown between characters. Unexpected ending.
surprise ending!
I didn’t guess his secret so it was a surprise. I love the “what if” added endings at the end of the book. I’m obsessed with Liane’s writing and this one doesn’t disappoint.
While I liked the characters in this book, I found it very chaotic the way the author chose to swap so rapidly between each character’s POV. It broke up the continuity of the story so much that at one point I put the book down to read another & finally came back & finished it.
Could have been better
Although I figured out the secret early on, the story was interesting and characters well written and developed.
Elly Griffiths recommended I read Leanne Moriarty and I haven’t looked back. This was my first read, I’m now on no. 3. I rarely laugh out loud at books (Elly Griffiths is another only writer whose books have me barking with mirth). Moriarty is such as skilled writer, pithy, ironic, perceptive, you think you know the basic story and who did what and you are sooo wrong.
If you haven’t yet discovered this author – and I am surely one of the last to do so – then you have a treat in storre.
Normally I like historical fiction and everyday current fiction, but this was so good I couldn’t put it down!! It was a page turner that kept me chafing at the bit wanting to know more. Great read!
I thought that I would not be able to put this book down because of the author, yet it did not keep me locked in. I took my time and did not feel like things were as surprising as I had expected. Still an excellent storyteller.
One of the best books I’ve read.
This book was so fascinating. You will find it gripping for sure. What an ending!
It was a page turner even while it also dealt with some very interesting ethical dilemmas. I couldn’t put it down!
I read her other book Big Little Lies which was ok and more intriguing; this book was just obnoxious, I can’t for the life of me figure out what the purpose was of the constant integration of the Berlin Wall history was for. I thought the stories were dumb.
This book introduces a variety of characters whose lives are revealed to be interwoven in many unexpected ways. Many human emotions like guilt, love,
justice, and hatred are explored and revealed through the varied characters.
Much is left unsaid and the reader is able to make many judgments on their
own. Haunting and enjoyable, I recommend this book highly.
Liane Moriarty builds intrigue and just when you think you know what’s going to happen … it doesn’t, in the most interesting way possible.
