#1 In the entire Kindle StoreFrom USA Today Bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a new, fun, steamy standalone about a notorious playboy and the nerdy girl who brings him to his knees.Boston’s debauched elite is going up in flames, and it’s the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.ʜᴜɴᴛᴇʀI didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, … just one of those unexplainable things.
Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.
It just happened.
Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.
The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.
Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…
Sailor
I didn’t want this gig, okay?
But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.
I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.
No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.
Even at the cost of losing everything I have.
Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

Hunter Fitzpatrick can prey on my cougar self anytime. Holy shit this book was on a different level of HOT. Hunter Fitzpatrick is all types of filthy and I love it. The shit that comes out his mouth is brilliant. I mean who the hell asks for permission to wreck a uterus? If I still had a uterus, he would have unlimited access to wreck mine. Since I don’t, he can wreck my ovaries (I still have those).
Leigh Shen is such a brilliant author. I picture her sitting in front of her laptop wearing a black cape and plotting how to create yet another toxic character for us to OBSESS about. This book was PERFECTION. Apart from all the hotness, sexiness, passioness (I don’t care if that’s not a word – I was on a roll), Leigh gave us this amazing story about two characters who are fucked up in their own way. Two imperfect humans filled with self doubt and pouring all of their energy on the one thing they knew they would excel at (Hunter – sex) (Sailor – archery). When Hunter is given an ultimatum by his father and brother, he returns to Boston where Sailor, daughter of Sparrow and Troy Brennan, must make sure that he follows every rule. Both Sailor and Hunter immediately disliked each other, but when they find begin to test the think like of friendship and love, they allow themselves to reveal a part of them nobody else knows.
Hunter was a fucking walking pieces of man meat, sex on a stick, but he was so much more than that. He was indeed very loyal even to those he shouldn’t have been loyal to. Hunter was extremely intelligent although he didn’t see himself that way. Sailor was fierce and strong and that is the attitude she allowed others to see, but Hunter saw beyond that unmasking all of her fears.
The banter between Sailor and Hunter would make me laugh (literally out loud) and a second later would hove me yelling “HOT DAMN.” I read the e-book and then listened to the Audio (a few times) and I am not even going to deny that I re-played some favorite parts. Some favorite very sexy parts (in front of the fan) and with a cold glass of water (wine) and a couple of shots of Fireball.
Thank you Leigh. So, how long for the next one? I have a feeling I’m going to have to read Cillian’s story in a tub full of ice.
Everything you could ever want in a book!! Alpha guy strong woman sexy time and the roller coaster ride between!!!
I read all the reviews about this book, saw how everyone gushed about it, but I didn’t have time with other review commitments. Now that I had a free day, I decided to check what the hype was all about, and OH MY GOD! What a fantastic book! I loved it, chortled all the way through it, even though it had some angsty parts. It was just so juicy, irreverent and brilliant!
I loved Hunter; he starts the book as a degenerate, waste of a guy, fun-loving heir. All he lives for is the next screw, the booze, all the ways he can ruin his reputation further and anger his father more. When his father reels him in and makes his demands known or else, I wondered if Hunter had it in him. Well he did! This boy had an inner core of strength, loyalty and integrity that hadn’t been tapped into but it flourished. He just felt unloved and unwanted by his family and all he wanted, instead of riches, was to have a loving family. I hurt for him, felt for him, cheered for him as I witnessed his metamorphosis.
“I’d always been the idiot. The fool. The fuckup. I blurted shit I thought would make people laugh, because I was never expected to say anything meaningful or deep. Mildly entertaining was all anyone had ever expected from me. I was so committed to being a careless idiot, that the idea of not being one intimidated me.”
His perfect partner was Sailor, tiny firecracker, full of sass and irreverent humor, just like him. She grew up with a scrawny build, so she was frequently bullied. She ended up an introvert who only lived for her sport archery and is at the moment training for the Olympics. She had no sympathy for Hunter but she needed the sponsorship so she agreed to be his jailer, er babysitter, while he complied with his father’s demands.
Initially, they hated each other’s guts. They were a necessary evil for their personal purposes. An example of their caring ways:
“Out of my way, Prince Syphilis.” “Have dinner with me, Princess Psychotic.”
As they develop their friendship, we are allowed to look into their history and learn all the ways Hunter has been neglected by his family.
“He was a lonely prince—untouchable, yet in need of a hug. Brilliant, yet deeply misunderstood. Sitting on a throne of broken expectations and disappointment. I wondered if he’d ever know he was smart and brave and goodhearted. I wondered if I’d be the foolish girl to let him in on that secret. I realized he was right. I was the archer, but he was the true hunter.”
I loved the banter between Hunter and Sailor, loved how they moved from enemies to friends, and then to lovers. Loved how they helped and supported each other and loved how Hunter manned up and got to be all that he could be. I loved their bickering and their negotiations, how they dared one another, then turned into one team, against all their foes.
This story was fantastic, entertaining, funny at times, angsty at others, some office intrigue, a lot of family feud. Something that I found ironic was that Hunter’s parents are supposedly part of Boston’s aristocracy but they were a very dysfunctional family. Sailor’s father was “a legitimate business man unless proven otherwise”, meaning he was underworld, and yet, he was a loving father and Sailor never lacked family love and attention.
If this is the first book, I can’t wait for the other books in this series! The secondary characters are very colorful and interesting. Cillian, Hunter’s older brother is dark and sinister: “His beauty was as cruel as his expression. I didn’t remember ever seeing someone so brutally indifferent, my own father included.”
I can’t wait!
Ahhh, the Queen of the Anti-Hero continues to reign supreme! Hunter may not be for everyone. He is a misogynistic ass. Let’s be honest. Or at least that is the public persona he puts across, but there is more to this man than a woman eating jerk. He’s hiding a life of pain. Enter Sailor. The Daughter of a “respectable business man” (cough Troy Brennan), aka one of the scariest men in Boston. She’s been tasked with babysitting Hunter and getting him to change his ways. Or is there more beneath the surface? She doesn’t need him to be confident in who she is, but as she peels away the layers, she sees someone that no one else does.
“We didn’t talk about what we were. What we weren’t. We just existed: a butterfly and a man who appreciated beautiful things. Co-existing in the eye of a storm we’d been thrown into.”
And then we end the book, with the beginning of an era. I look forward to seeing how this group of women can turn the world upside down.
“I will never forget the day you brought me into your circle.” “I know, but blood is thicker than water,” I croaked. “That may be, but loyalty is thicker than blood,” Aisling replied. “We’re a team now. A pack. The Boston Belles.”
Tell ya what…..I was beyond excited when this new series was announced, I could hardly wait to read it. And as usual L.J. Shen didn’t disappoint. This book is my favorite so far, though that will probably change when I read the next one lol. I didn’t think anyone could replace my Vicious but Hunter did just that. Addictive and entertaining from start to finish.
This hunter is hypnotizing! 5 stars
Wow, this Hunter and his prey hypnotized me and left me delighted! As it says in the blurb, Hunter finds himself in a pickle (pun intended which Hunter would approve!), and his demanding father makes Sailor his nanny with contractual conditions. These two are fire when they are together! Their banter is delightful and hilarious, because they think they hate each other at first! We know what is going to happen, but it was how we got there that was so hypnotizing to read! On the outside, Hunter is the cavalier playboy, but in truth he has never felt like he fit in. My heart hurt for him right at the beginning and throughout the book. Once more of his layers were peeled back, I was so smitten with him. Sailor is shy (and afraid to live) but fierce, and I adored her. My heart hurt for her several times too. They took each other out of their comfort zones. She saw underneath his attitude and made him be a better man. He saw how beautiful she was inside and out and pushed her to actually live. They were a match made in heaven, and I was captivated by their entertaining, emotional love story! I loved and highly recommend this book!
“He was fearless, and a rebel, and a sinner, and a saint.”
LJ Shen has turned her book world upside down! The Hunter is a crossover of sorts. Hunter Fitzpatrick is featured in the All Saints High series and Sailor Brennan is the daughter of Sparrow and Troy Brennan from Shen’s “Sparrow.”
Hunter and Sailor are thrown together for many reasons. Some are known and others are revealed later. Their story is layered with dreams, aspirations, promises and heartbreak. I love Sailor’s character. Her heart is pure and genuine. Her relationship with her family is beautiful. And yet she still has fears and anxieties.
Hunter did not whisk me away as I thought he would. I loved watching him grow and learning about his doubts and insecurities. His intelligence is skimmed over. I wished that he would have opened his heart sooner in the story.
“He was a lonely prince—untouchable, yet in need of a hug. Brilliant, yet deeply misunderstood. Sitting on a throne of broken expectations and disappointment.”
Overall I enjoyed The Hunter and look forward to the next in the Boston Belles series. LJ Shen has left us with some delicious crumbs to tease us! Who will it be????
“She was the princess in the ivory tower, and he was the punk who was going to steal and corrupt her on his lunch break from setting the world on fire.”

LJ Shen has done it again! Another hothole to add to our spank bank! Lmao! Hunter Fitzpatrick is another level of asshole! He’s got a huge potty mouth that he just can’t control and when is comes to sex, he just can’t help himself. When he gets caught in the scandal of a sex tape, his father gives him an ultimatum. If he wants to keep his inheritance in his parents will then he has to not only quit drinking for 6 month but also be celibate. This is insane for one of LJ’s sexy studs right?! But also he has to move in with none other than Sailor Brennon! Yes! Sailor is the daughter of Sparrow and Troy Brennon from her book Sparrow and let me tell you, he does not want to mess with Troy! He is a “fixer” and if you don’t know what that is, you really need to read Sparrow first lol! Sailor is a fiery red head that can’t help but to mouth back. She is an Archer preparing for the Olympics. When Hunter corners her one night after one of her practice sessions with a proposition to move in with him and basically be a glorified babysitter, she at first refused. But when he bribes her with endorsements that his rich father will pay for she moves in. Now, the question isn’t if Sailor can keep her lady bits from Hunters long shlong but how long will it take? When they are thrust together, they become more than what either of them expected.
I loved this book so much! Of course LJ Shen rocked my world! Like she always does. She’s such a great writer and has the BEST sexy studs in the land! Lol! I loved every second of this book and can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!
“The Hunter” by L.J. Shen is one of the most anticipated reads for the romance community in 2020 & praised as a book with excellent writing, great romance, funny banter & to die-for hero.
If you’re going in expecting all those things, I’m gonna tell you now that you won’t be getting any of them & you would be literally wasting your time, patience & money on that one.
“The Hunter” is just another book by L.J. Shen that’s way too overhyped, was poorly researched & written lazily. It has many mistakes the editors somehow missed, Shen uses names from the Greek mythology she can’t even spell, Hunter is supposed to have an IQ of 147 but thinks butterflies have 3 LEGS. So much ridiculousness.
The hero is the worst of 2020, an unfunny & unredeemable manchild that only thinks about sex & the size of his penis. He’s obsessed with Jay Gatsby & thinks just because his name is Hunter, he’s A HUNTER. At 19 (his age is mentioned so late in the book like the author either thought his dick size is more important or because she didn’t want you to realize his age) he’s having orgies, drinking illegally & has a viral sex tape.
The heroine is a walking contradiction, anything but the smart badass you’re promised. She would be self-aware for a second and then go back to being a horny fool that feels guilty to have an opinion and backbone. She has nothing going on beside her obsession with archery, yet she hardly knows anything about the sport.
As a couple, they have no connection, no romantic moments, no growth and development, all they do is have sex, eat take out and spy on a bad guy. The banter is boring & painful to read. The alternate cover of the book has nothing to do with the actual story, Sailor wears a fancy dress ONCE.
All the 5-star reviews promise you things that you’d never get with this book: hilarious banter, a hero that would dethrone all bookboyfriends, epic twists, good writing…
I wish the romance community would finally speak out on how that type of reviews happen: with fear of being blacklisted by the author, getting kicked off review teams; free paperbacks and merch in exchange for a review pushing the narrative how brilliant the book is.
Being a fan doesn’t mean you have to tolerate everything your idol does, criticism & “bad” reviews shouldn’t be frowned upon, gushing & lying how amazing and perfect the story is doesn’t help the author to improve.
***If the author you worship can’t take criticism & drops you for speaking your mind & posting an honest review, it shows the type of person they are, especially when they preach publicly how they want HONEST REVIEWS but their actions don’t back that up.
So if you’re on the fence about reading TH or you’re curious about it after seeing all your favorite bloggers & authors gush about it everywhere, don’t. What they promise you, isn’t what you get. Needless to say, I highly don’t recommend it.
Welcome to the world fo the Boston Belle’s Let me introduce you to Hunter, your new obsession.
I cannot get over this book it was literally more addicting with each page you read. Leigh weaves a story with a character we knew we wanted more about and threw us into a whole new crowd with him.
Perfection.
Hunter is broody and sarcastic and his ego fills it’s own room without even trying.
Plus, sex tape. lol
These two were more opposite than any of LJS’s couples before and I was rooting fro them so hard that by the end of the book I was literally giddy with excitement as things unfolded.
This novel throws a lot of messages about self love and self worth at you and I really enjoyed watching it unfold. I cannot wait to read the next novel in this series nd I hope we get more of these two!
This is the first book in a brand new series Boston Belles by LJ Shen. I was quite cautious going into it since her recent books didn’t work well for me as her older works did, but I was still hopeful for a new universe, a new beginning. Unfortunately, I still feel that it was missing something that could wow me!
I have a feeling this series is inspired by The Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas. The Boston Belles are a group of four young girls, two of them are sisters. The heroine of this book, Sailor Brennan, is a shy and awkward girl with red hair! They sit together at the corner table at an event and form a pact, promising to marry only for true love . And this book is almost a “marriage-of-convenience” trope, but it’s a relationship of convenience …
Sailor is pursuing her dream to make it to the Olympics in archery. She’s offered an endorsement for her PR campaigns and training, in exchange for a “babysitting” job to Hunter Fitzpatrick, the second son of the 4th wealthiest family in the US, the heir of a multi-billion-dollar oil company. The deal is for her to be his roommate for six months and make sure he is celibate and sober. And Hunter needs to agree to this arrangement if he still wants to keep his inheritance…
I feel their chemistry is rather lacking, and most of sex scenes feel clinical . Even at 65-70% through the book, Hunter still “couldn’t wait to drown in unlimited pussy” after the deal is over . To him, she’s more like a roommate with benefits! His childhood experience makes him emotionally detached, and her shyness and insecurities don’t make it any better . However, I did enjoy the last quarter of the book, where he actually behaves like a normal person, not an idiotic manwhore, and she grows a spine and makes him grovel . I just wish it had happened earlier, I’d have enjoyed it much more!
4 read for me!
I inhaled this wonderful book by Leigh Shen in record time! Again she brings us a hero that we can’t get enough of and a heroine that you’d want as a best friend. Hunter’s character had such a deep soul. He made me laugh, made me sad, and made me never want to forget him! The steamy scenes were scorching and the chemistry intense! The banter between Sailor and Hunter was priceless, he had met his perfect match. This is definitely one of my top reads of 2020!!
I wish I could give LJ Shen more than five stars they are more than deserved. I devoured this book as I have everything she has written. This is a MUST read by an absolutely amazing author. You won’t want to put it down once you start. Truly fabulous!
The Hunter by L.J. Shen
L.J. Shen is by far one of the most talented writers I have had the pleasure of reading. I absolutely love diving into her books. They steal hours of my life at a time and I love the feeling I get being transported into these amazing stories she creates. The Hunter was absolutely amazing! An enemies to lovers romance with all types of feels. Hunter is the ultimate rich, overbearing playboy. After being caught up in a scandal, Hunter is now forced to be sober, celibate, and an active college student. In comes the fiery and beautiful Sailor. “Listen to me carefully, Hunter Fitzpatrick. I may seem like an insecure, average-looking geek to you. And you know what? That’s who I am. I own it. But make no mistake, this insecure geek comes from a long line of people you do not want to screw with, and their savagery rubbed off on me as well.” Bad ass. Sailor is on track for an amazing Olympic career, but she needs some help. Hunter’s father strikes a deal with Sailor as a sponsor and before you know it, Sailor is officially Hunter’s babysitter.
Hunter was such an amazing heroine in this story!! He was witty, sexy, bossy, angry, and oh that Gaelic!) “You are my butterfly, Sailor…make no mistakes-when I finally catch you, I intend to capture you, too.” Sailor was a determined athlete with her eyes on the prize. Watching that prize shift from Olympic archer to Hunter was so addicting. I loved reading as their romance unfolded. Hunter and Sailor were made for each other! As with all of L.J. Shen’s books, there was so much more in here. Family relationships were tested, friends from other books we have read showed up to say hello, and you can just feel what character’s we will be seeing again in the future. (Ahem…Cillian, Sam or Aisling maybe.) Five stars from me, absolutely!!
Oh, Hunter Fitzpatrick…”Just think of me, like, as Bambi: cute AF but super stupid and in total need of supervision.” This is such a great description of who Hunter is at the beginning of this story. He has zero impulse control, makes terrible decisions, and is a pretty annoying dude. I mean, I sort of liked him, but daaaaaang — get yourself together!
I really liked Sailor. She was focused, spunky, and seemed like a genuine person. When she was tasked with babysitting Hunter … well, I was worried about her. Although he is basically likable, he’s a sly devil who only wants what he wants in the moment. I was sure that he was going to eat her alive, but … somehow… she managed to wrangle him sufficiently.
As the story progressed and I got to know both of the characters, I could see through Hunter’s facade. Yes, he was still a young man with access to too much money & using that money for shenanigans and vices galore, but there was something much deeper to him. I felt like I could truly see his heart and how deep his loyalty lied. Sure, he was upset with his family, but he stuck by them and stuck by anyone who was in his heart.
I definitely enjoyed this story and that it had a bit less traumatic/dramatic angst than the All Saints High series. I hope the remaining story pull me in as efficiently, and if the girls are any indication: it’s going to be a fun ride.
Sailor and Hunter were amazing. Can’t wait for more of the Boston Belles
The first book in new series and she makes it hard to just love only one of her series.
The Hunter is the first book in the Boston Belles series. The hero, Hunter Fitzpatrick was previously seen in Angry God. The heroine is Sailor Brennan, whose parents were the subject of Sparrow. You do not need to read either book to read The Hunter.
The magic of reading a LJ Shen book is that you are grateful to see glimpses of previous characters while falling in love with the current characters. In addition, she provides glimpses of potential future characters. Once you read even one of her books, you become a devoted fan. Each book takes you through a roller coaster of emotions as you journey along with the characters towards their HEA. A reader becomes so engrossed with the storyline that you want to re-read it at the conclusion because you simply do not want to leave the world she has woven. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
Oh, this book.
I am wholly in love with it.
Not only are the series crossovers had me over the moon, but the whole rhythm, feel and soul of this book had me hooked.
It shows that you don’t have to completely wallow in darkness in order to see the light.
I loved it.
I can only hope that the rest of the series follows suit, with my own sneaky suspicion of what’s to come.
5 stars and a dala horse
I enjoyed this book but i often have a problem with this authors sex scenes. Don’t get me wrong, I love erotic stories, even BDSM stories. But, to me, her sex scenes are almost jarring in how unsexy they are… This was a good story and I loved the main characters. I just think her sex scenes could be better.
3.5 stars … I listened to this on audio and I’m glad I did because…
First off , I love Shen’s writing . She can certainly give us the asshole male characters that has fast become her trade mark together with ass kicking females. But for me, this book was nothing special , kind of been there done that before type story. Only Hunter didn’t really have any endearing qualities like the hot holes and their offsprings . He was arrogant cocky turnoff rather than arrogant smoking hot. I think if I had read this book it wouldn’t have held my attention.
The narrator brought this story to life, gave the characters a personality and actually made overbearing Hunter into a character that was very much tongue in cheek with a dry sense of humour that was able to laugh at himself. Maybe that how the written word read as well I just don’t think I would’ve been paying that much attention to it to appreciate it.
I think Shen needs to diversify a little and step away from these type of ‘any hole is a goal’ male characters because they are becoming very samey.
