#1 In the entire Kindle StoreFrom USA Today Bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a new, fun, steamy standalone about a notorious playboy and the nerdy girl who brings him to his knees.Boston’s debauched elite is going up in flames, and it’s the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.ʜᴜɴᴛᴇʀI didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, … just one of those unexplainable things.
Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.
It just happened.
Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.
The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.
Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…
Sailor
I didn’t want this gig, okay?
But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.
I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.
No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.
Even at the cost of losing everything I have.
Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

The Hunter is a contemporary, opposites attract, enemies to lovers, roommate romance, and book one in L.J Shen’s new series, the Boston Bella’s.
ℎ . ℎ .
When opposites attract… it makes for one heck of a story!
Hunter Fitzgerald is the ultimate bad boy, rich, playboy. But this time his antics have crossed the line and his family gives him an ultimatum. So in order to keep his nose clean, he gets stuck with a “baby sitter”.
Enter Sailor Brennan, yes, you read that right! B-R-E-N-N-A-N, as in Troy Brennan’s daughter!!! If you don’t know who I’m talking about, you need to check out Shen’s mafia romance, Sparrow. Needless to say, I had high expectations for Sailor and she lived up to every single one of them! She’s fierce, fiery, and the total package! I loved her sassy self and the way she wouldn’t take crap from Hunter!

The banter between Sailor and Hunter, and even Hunter and his friends made me laugh out loud sooo many times.

Hunter and Sailor couldn’t be more different if they tried but somehow, they just fit. The chemistry is off the charts and the steamy times were intense, but so was the build-up! The character growth of Hunter throughout the book… *sigh* the boy had me in tears!

L.J. Shen is and always has been one of my favorite one-click authors, and The Hunter is a prime example of why that is!
The Hunter was an excellent introduction into the new Boston Bella’s world and I can’t wait for more!!!
Audio: What an amazing read/listen! Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke did Sailor and Hunter justice and were the perfect voices for what I was hearing in my head. The tone, the pace, PERFECT narration! I would most definitely re-read/re-listen to this one anytime!
There are other books and then there are books by LJ Shen After pretty much devouring everything else I read of hers my anticipation for The Hunter was sky high and of course she did not disappoint! I feel like people come for the gorgeous fellas on the covers but they stay and devour these books because the way Leigh writes about these alpha males and beautiful broken people is nothing short of perfection. Layers and layers of perfection. She will grab you by the heart until you cannot help but swoon. I looove that we got a few cameos sprinkled into this book from our fav Todos Santos people and the fact that she can intertwine these characters throughout different books is such a treat. Another thing you can’t help but enjoy is the banter, OMG THE BANTER between her characters alone is worth all the stars. I love that Sailor pushes back hard every single time and gives Hunter a run for his money. I also have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of either one of their brothers (Sam and Cillian) so I am pretty excited to see what Boston Belle we are going to read about next. Again if you haven’t gotten the LJ Shen memo yet take this as your sign and PICK UP HER BOOKS! Trust me you need them in your life.
I have wanted to read this book since before it came out, I just had so many other ARCs I had to read in order before I could squeeze this in.
I wanted to read this book so badly I thought, it may just end up being something I don’t enjoy, I have had this happen too many times in the past.
Well let me tell you, this was not the case and this book did not disappoint, I LOVED it so blooming much, and I mean, seriously loved it.
We started this book off meeting play boy hunter and his shenanigans and i thought oh no!!! Do not ruin this hot as sin man on the cover for me haha. We quickly learn he is who he is through parenting and lack of any real pure love, this is his way of dealing with all the failure and hurt in his life. We really see a huge change to Hunter as the book goes on, he does a lot of that change by himself for himself but alongside him is the beautiful feisty Sailor.
Sailor, what a character she is, this girl has had quite the upbringing, parents and a sibling that adore her and would kill for her, literally. She had a situation several years ago which put her on the path she is on now. Like Hunter she is changing, her parents want it for her, she just needs to work this out for herself.
Together this pair are dynamite, they are a pair of fighters who will do anything they put their minds to. They will not take anything lying down and will fight for what they believe to the end.
This pair together have great chemistry and off the charts hot sex!! Sweet little Sailor might not be so sweet after all or maybe Hunter just brings a whole other side of her.
This book is full of twists and turns and things you just would not of seen coming, and you will love every single page of it.
This book flowed so well, the storyline, the setting and the characters were all fantastic.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I will be back for more soon.
Thanks for a great read.
Oh, Hunter?
This book was hilariously-romantic, I’ve loved all of L.J.Shen books, but this one is my ‘Ultimate’ favourites so far, I loved sailor and Hunter; they are oh-so-beautiful, the banter between them is the best.
Recommended series reading order: Sparrow, Sinners of Saint, All Saints High, Boston Belles.
Hunter Fitzpatrick, Prince of Royal Pipelines, his father’s oil company, is forced into celibacy for six months after a sex tape, staring him, was leaked to the public. His father finds the perfect babysitter; nerdy archer, Sailor Brennan. She agrees to live with and keep an eye on Hunter, in exchange for her Olympic endorsement being paid for. Will she be able to resist Boston’s most eligible bachelor?
I wasn’t too sure about Hunter’s character at first, but I started to love him as the book progressed. He’s one of the biggest manwhores I’ve ever read, but L.J. Shen writes his character in such a great way and you can see how broken he is inside. He doesn’t have a great relationship with his family and struggles to find his place in the world. He was funny, had some great one liners and had me cracking up throughout this book. His banter and slow burn connection with Sailer was great.
Sailor was such a sweet character and was the perfect heroine for this story. She was able and willing to put Hunter in his place and didn’t put up with his BS. She has goals she wants to achieve and nothing will stop her from getting there. She faces some setbacks, but overcomes them in a badass way. The way Hunter and Sailor work on and become the best thing for the other is perfection. They start out as enemies, and slowly become a little more, until they fully bloom into something beautiful.
This story had angst, steam, and a couple twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting at all, but loved how they played out. This was the perfect story to start out this series. I can’t wait for the rest!!
I’ve been binging on all of L.J. Shen’s books and holy fudge, guys!! If you’re in the mood for ANGSTY AF romances, she’s the author for you.
The Hunter is a spin-off of, well, several books, LOL! You see, Hunter, the male character in this fantastic book, is one of the secondary characters we met in the All Saints High series which is a spin-off of the Sinners of Saint series. And Sailor, our female lead, is the daughter of the main characters in Sparrow, one of Shen’s standalone novels. See what I mean now? So anyway, I’ve read ALL of these books, so to say I was emotionally invested in The Hunter would be THE understatement of the YEAR.
I had no idea what this book was about, I only knew I was getting it. I’ve come to expect certain things from this author and a great storyline is one of them, so it was an easy decision for me to dive in. Right off the bat, I have to say that I loved the narrators, especially Jason Clarke. He definitely made Hunter sound sexy, hehe.
Sailor and Hunter’s journey went from sort-of enemies to friends to lovers and while the general idea behind their story wasn’t a ‘new’ one, the characters themselves made it feel…different. It was as if they both added an emotional edge to the book. As with all of Ms. Shen’s novels, the characters, especially the male leading ones, have more to them than meets the eye. There’s always a back story that will make your heart break for them, and this was true with Hunter. I very much loved seeing him evolve just as much as I enjoyed seeing Sailor come out of her shell. I do have to say though, the twist regarding Sailor wasn’t too exciting for me, but I did love everything about Hunter’s side of the story. I think it’s safe to say he is one of my favorites along with Dean and Knight.
Anyway, while I know L.J. Shen’s books are not for everyone, she’s still an author I will happily recommend. If you love angst and are looking for edgier romances and not a cookie-cutter, sweet love stories totally give her books a go.
Holy Hotness!! One of the craziest and sexiest games of cat and mouse I have seen. The Hunter was the explosive first book in L.J.’s Boston Belles Series. It was shocking, sexy, funny, and full of angst.
Hunter was acting like a normal entitled rich kid, he was above others and nothing could stop him. Until he did the unthinkable…even his Dad couldn’t completely cover it up.
He was forced to move back to Boston to work at the family business. His social life was nonexistent and his new roommate was there to make sure he followed the rules, but would he be able to get her to bend them?
Sailor had one dream and by being a “nanny” she would be closer to it coming true. How hard could watching over Hunter be? She was immune to all his charm, right?
The push and pull of these two was off the charts. It’s no shock that they were explosive! I loved seeing two of L.J.’s worlds collide! It was great getting glimpses into their lives! I can’t wait to see where this series goes!!
I love this new series. I was really looking forward to seeing
more of the characters from “Sparrow” and “All Saints”, and I
wasn’t disappointed.
Loved it!!! The chemistry and story building was amazing as always.
Can’t wait for more of The Boston Belles.
Holy shit, this was a jaw dropping book ever!! This was very angtsy and brutual, alot of cursing and profanity language so heads up on the warnings! I felt really bad for Hunter and Sailor. Both were so polar opposites yet in a sense had something they could relate off to. Hunter behaviors and words were so beyond off censored that he was the most dirtiest character in this book but all the more funny too.
Sailor was your average goody-too-shoes but unattractive to the public eye. There were lots of secrets and betrayal that I did not expect but L.J Shen you know how to make it golden with these sexy bachelors and the roles of each were written so well! Not a moment dulled me at all in this! This was a slow burn enemies to lovers story which I loved very much of how it developed from beginning to end.
Hunter has a tough steel outer layer but deep down he was vulnerable when it came to wanting…needing someone to love, Sailor was one who saw that in him…ahh I won’t say more because that’s spoiling I’m not gonna lie Hunter is got me feeling all type of way too so ladies be prepare to have your heart wrecked I look forward to more in this series!
There were so many things I loved about this book, but the thing that most struck me was the characterization. It’s absolute perfection. Hunter and Sailor are both such vivid, unique characters with their own voices and once they got past their initial differences, they were so perfect for each other. I just loved how we stepped inside their heads and really felt everything they were going through. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Wow! I’ve marched straight out of my comfort book genre. Of course, I’ve read Enemies to Lovers romance books. The kind of books with mm romance that are usually dark, angsty, painful. The Hunter by L.J. Shen is an Enemies-to-Lovers Romance, balanced with Romcom elements, but the main character, Hunter, God. He is priceless. The entire time I was reading, I was laughing out loud with joy.
Bad boy Hunter Fitzpatrick is a delicious, handsome, arrogant, egotistical, crass, rich boy with too much privilege and no sense of dignity. He is full of foul-mouth words even his family is shockingly aghast at the stuff falling out of his mouth. Then he goes and does something reprehensible.
“A disgrace!” Da spat… “You stupid, embarrassing fool. You…you…goddamn…”
I love the way the author writes Hunter and Sailor. Sailor is tasked with babysitting Hunter, but only if Daddy Fitzpatrick agrees to Sailor’s terms.
These two start out despising each other. As events unfold, Sailor begins to understand Hunter and why he acts up. Underneath the bravado, Hunter is hurting, wants love from his family.
Sailor is the right person for Hunter. The humorous banter, her one-upping Hunter, them being together was pure joy. I love their dynamic relationship. Their energy kept me reading and smiling and occasionally laughing out loud at crass Hunter.
This is my first time reading a.J. Shen book. I can assure you it will not be my last.
Highly recommended for sheer fun and entertainment. Be warned, Hunter needs a mouth washing. Lol.
Hunter is most definitely not the man of anyone’s dreams, except if they are only after a big fat wallet!! Playboy friend to Vaughn and Knight. His life is a merry go round of Women and Booze!
After a particular party and a steamy sex video hitting the web he’s put on notice, to clean up his act or loose his inheritance!!!
Banished to Boston and being baby sat by Sailor for 6 months is NOT his idea of fun !!!!
OH MY GAWD, I LOVED SAILOR!! This girl is one gutsy young woman, and is everything you would expect being the daughter of Sparrow !! She is determined to reach the Olympics with her Archery and baby sitting this spoiled arrogant Rich A hole shouldn’t be a problem ..Right?
She wasn’t prepared for his hotness, she wasn’t prepared to get to know him, really know him and see under neath the exterior that hid so much of the man he was.
If ever a couple were complete opposites this was them, yet right from the word go i was rooting for them, something just worked !!!
The flirting was Hot, their communication was full of innuendo’s and their energy bounced off the page.
My mind was at war on whether i wanted them to be together or not, my heart was hurting for their back stories, but i totally wanted LOVE to win.
LJ Shen didn’t make it easy, and Hunter was a character to either loved this rogue or you didn’t, and Sailor was a girl you wanted to be and i was the Girl who also wanted to be his prey !!!!
Loved it !!!
A swoony and steamy enemies-to-lovers that you won’t want to miss. And OMG… this cover! Seriously???
Oh where do I start…?
Words have left me.
The Hunter is, … it is… legend.
LJ Shen has done it again.
After reading both of the Sinners of Saint & All Saint’s High books, I didn’t think the next set of interconnected series would even come close to those two…
… Boy was I wrong!
The Hunter has started this next set off with a Bang!
Hunter and Sailor.. just wow!
Their chemistry rolls off the pages and their banter (as well as a lot of inner monologue) is hysterically funny! There are twists and turns that draw you further into their world and keep you devouring page after page, after page, after page..
The billionaire playboy heir and the fiery redheaded siren (who is, I must say, the perfect combination of both Sparrow & Troy) is a story you don’t want to miss!
5 stars!
“He breathed in my face. If only he didn’t smell as he had – of cinnamon and male and my full-blown demise.”
L.J. Shen I could NOT put this book down.
I LOVED Hunter. I LOVED Sailor.
The banter was ON POINT.
Shen has a beautiful way of weaving dialogue to make it the story come to life. I cannot tell you how many times I laughed while reading.
Addictive story line, Steamy, Humorous. THE HUNTER HAS IT ALL.
I like lists and I’m feeling listy so that is what I shall do..
1. ….that cover..
2. I read this book for two reasons: the cover and because the heroine is Troy and Sparrow’s daughter (my favorite Shen book).
3. Hunter is an unapologetic manwhore. That becomes obnoxiously obvious in maybe the first paragraph.
4. A reader will need to suspend reality a bit to enjoy this book. Personally, sometimes I enjoy books that are nothing like my life and with events that would never happen in real life.
5. There were a few times that I had to go back and reread parts because I couldn’t figure out how the character got from A to C when they should have been at B. Took me out of the story.
6. The Lana and Junsu backstory was weird. A puzzle piece that didn’t quite fit.
7. I loved when Sailor nailed (literally) him to the door.
8. Hunter was able to insert a sexual innuendo () in any situation. I also have that talent (that’s what she said). See?? I’m a dirty birdie.
9. I’m looking forward to the other books in this series.
I approached this book with some trepidation. I had stopped reading the author’s books after the Sinners series because they were becoming a little too much for me. A little too forced. A little formulaic. Repetitive characters, etc. This was a pleasant surprise. Keeping my fingers crossed about the rest of the series because I am really interested in the characters that were introduced.
The only thing I could have done without was that Hunter seemed to get off on humiliation and degrading his partners up to a point. Otherwise, LJ Shen kills it again.
I loved this first book in this new series.
Hunter and Sailer were an unlikely pair who defied odds and made something out of their strange beginning.
Hunter is a man child who has messed up so much in his short life. Sailer is the daughter of a very dangerous very powerful man.
I loved the push and pull these two had. I was laughing one sentence and cursing the next. I love how interconnected all the books are. We have characters from all over appearing. Which just shows how amazing of a writer LJ Shen is. How she can make a new series but continue to have our old favorites appear or even just a name drop.
I cannot wait to continue to read her works!!!!!
I am so glad I found this author. I have loved all the books I’ve read from her. The Hunter is no different. Hunter and Sailor are such a great ride out of reality when I needed it most. They gave me drama, humor, angst, and 2 days worth of pure enjoyment. Looking forward to the next book
You know a massive shit show will arrive when, within mere sentences, the hero: becomes re-associated with some tits and his fingers find a home inside someone’s snatch (Knight and Vaughn are attempting to have a serious conversation at this time), discovers his self-isolation Pornhub career started without his consent (not that this bothered Hunter), said career involved FIVE women (I cannot mentally or emotionally understand the involved amount of limbs) and unveils an intellect that rivals an enormous sack of dicks.
In other words, Hunter is an absolute dullard with equally horrendous ethics and traits.
1. Hunter “Manwhore” Fitzpatrick
“Based on the hard surface underneath my aching muscles, I gathered I’d crashed on the floor again. And by the sticky feeling in my groin, followed by the breeze rolling through my neatly trimmed pubes, I knew I’d shoved my cock into holes I shouldn’t have the night before, and I was gloriously naked.”
I love a manwhore, but within reason and without his shameless actions admitted in blatant illustration inside a short time frame. Hunter Fitzpatrick’s less than stellar introduction occurred within two paragraphs and this kind of characterisation said to me it couldn’t become better from here. Thankfully, Hunter’s unfortunate issues continued and his characteristics worsened within a sentence. I hadn’t wasted an entire narrative to become invested in an infested “hero”. I mean, this summarises all of the issues to come:
“The tags on the video included: #FratParty #Orgy #Hotsluts #Cheerleaders #Billionaire #Anal #Oral #69 #Creampie #TagTeam #BestFriendsEx. And all I could think was, I managed all those things in the span of twenty minutes with one dick? Im-fucking-pressive.”
2. Hunter “Sexist” Fitzpatrick
“There was a leak.” Vaughn’s icicle eyes tapered with displeasure.
I waved him off with the cigarette. “That’s just a natural discharge designed to tell you the female body is ready for mating. You’d know that if you fucked women who were alive.”
I’d love to throttle this motherfucker within 0.2 seconds flat for this comment because as much as crude humour is fantastic (I’m Australian), it isn’t so when said humour is sexist. Women are not sex repositories. Hunter’s abilities, or lack thereof, to give a fuck is nonexistent and rather than consider his friends or father’s inevitable lecture with some semblance of seriousness, or at least pretend to, Hunter is more interested in avenues available to wet his 8 inches of selfish dickheadness. It carries over into my next point.
“She. He said she. That meant she was female. That also meant I could fuck her behind his back. No matter her age and looks, I was willing to do it if it meant dipping my dick into something that wasn’t my own hand.”
3. Hunter “Dumb Fuck” Fitzpatrick
“As for Harvard, I didn’t think an idiot like me would survive it, anyway. I’d probably fail at finding the classes, let alone deciphering the lectures. It was just as well.”
7% into The Hunter and the hatred inside me increased tenfold. Hunter is full of horrid cockiness and narcissistic tendencies, he believes Sailor’s disinterest must mean she’s interested in women because God forbid a woman doesn’t salivate over Hunter’s 8-inch dick and handsome physique. No, motherfucker. Don’t be dumb for one second. Please. I can’t stomach heroes unable to understand that mocking someone’s appearance—especially the heroine’s—isn’t romantic, or even nice. It’s rude. Hunter’s attitude and intellect ceased to surprise me at this point.
“I barely remembered the chick. What I did recall was carroty hair that looked about as soft as blistered feet, more freckles than a face, and the body of a malnourished, five-year-old boy.”
Somehow Hunter becomes even more obscene with no tact or awareness whatsoever. I feel terrible that Sailor Brennan doesn’t seem to have a backbone to tell this epitome of an enormous, moronic fuckboy to go away, or that she’s determined to have a glamorous appearance change to appease the opinions of an undeserving, self-centered human being, or that she’s adamant to continue following what appears to be an unrequited or least one-sided romance for the longest duration. Shatters me—I want a heroine with fucking confidence and ferocious strength, is that hard?
“I shoved her into the limo and spent the time scrolling through pictures of hot girls I’d fucked. I needed to clear my head. Also, to empty my dick.”
During my twelve month hiatus of L.J. Shen, I assumed her romances became more refined following the massive mess that was In the Unlikely Event. It saddens me to have read The Hunter because for all of her other “heroes’” faults, Hunter’s the shittest one. Truthfully, however, all of the heroes and heroines start to blend into a single character as there’s been little differentiation between her characters as of late. Knight possesses similar substance abuse characteristics of Dean. Vaughn and Vicious obtained revenge following abusive situations. Alex and Hunter required a babysitter to reassemble their tarnished reputations.
L.J. Shen is my guiltiest pleasure ever—I have an intense love/hate relationship with this author’s incredible, but destructive romances because, no matter what, I’m always left enamoured and invested. Vicious is my constant reminder that L.J. Shen’s a prolific author with an ability to construct beautifully written romances riddled with heartache and intense emotions that made me fall in love with her stories. I hope The Villain is better because I’m enamoured with Cillian and the devastation of potentially writing another low-rated review will kill me.
Because of Vicious’ delightfully entertaining cameo, I give this two stars. I also end this rant on Vicious’ perfect characterisation:
“Although Baron was a lawyer by trade, he didn’t practice criminal law. But it was my understanding that sometimes he helped relatives and close friends with legal shit. It was also my understanding that he charged $5,000 an hour to justify his reputation as a world-class cunt. He needed the money like Kylie Jenner needed more lips. The first thing he told me was that he was going to overbill me.
“Just to get a taste of being fucked. One cannot live his whole life only doing the fucking,” he’d explained point-blank when he entered the house an hour ago, after Jean and Michael bailed me out of jail.”
