Epic enemies to lovers like only LJ can do!
HH what the Hell this book did to me!! I totally took my breath from the First scentence on. What should i do with my life now?
This book Miss Shen at the best of her best and more. Again this found a way to build more than solid story around an important theme.
The Scentences and rethoric figures she used to portray the way in which the Hero and his girl thougt gave me a good view in their minds and i fell in love with both of them.
Leaving the way i went to with this to characters when i started reading was nearly impossible. Because an addiction for this caught me faster than anyone for other substances will.
I’m a little sad because i never will be able to experence this book for the first time again. Because it full filled all things i expect from it on plus 10 level.
Mostly i wanna go in and hug the Characters. But sometimes i wanna shake them hard. To me their development in charachters where totally clear.
Because ladies always first. Sailor is young women with ambitions. She says what she wants plus she has her own sass. She also is girl who is works really hard for her goals.
Hunters Second name is prince charming. He has talent for bringing him self in not so pleasent situations. He takes things like they come.
Let’s see what stunning gave me sizzeling energy and excitement while reading. On my through the story i was drawning deep in it and refused to put this story down. While reading i was totally torn back and forth between the fact that i couldn’t put thus book out of my hand and that i don’t wanted to leave this characters. This book gets all the possible stars in our Universe.
„I’m going to have you, prey. One way or the other.”
With incredible talent for storytelling combined with flawless prose, Shen once again delivers captivating and unputdownable story that’s all-consuming. The title for this book hit the jackpot, but for me the author is the hunter, and I am the prey. I was easily ensnared and believe me, I couldn’t free myself until L.J. let me out with the words ‘the end’. Hunter and Sailor’s story was addicting and remarkably entertaining. A perfect introduction to this new world!
I remember Hunter well from the All Saints High series and this guy was already catching attention at that time. Young, handsome and rich, with the whole world at his feet and a herd of pretty girls who served as his main entertainment. However, Hunter turns out to be more complicated than the facade we see at first glance. He treats his flirting and partying as a mask that hides deeply hidden pain and lack of understanding. Yes, he captures hearts with his cockiness, dirty talk and stunts, but only with his vulnerable side he won me over completely.
I was very curious about Sailor. As she’s the daughter of the infamous Troy Brennan, I had high expectations for her. And she met them all and then some! That girl is brave, fierce and sassy. At first she may seem a bit too good and demure, but she’s not to be crossed. And not because of her family, Sailor perfectly deals with her problems by herself. She’s ambitious, determined and oozes inner strenght.
Hunter and Sailor are complete opposites, but as it is with opposites, these two attract and complement each other beautifully. Their push and pull was simply epic, their witty banter sometimes amused me to tears and the sexual tension made me waiting with bated breath for the outcome. And holy mother of hotness! When they exploded they set everything around on fire!
Everything in this story flows seamlessly. From the beggining that cracked up me up, through the arguments and teasing, to the beautiful slow burn romance that was born between Sailor and Hunter. I loved to see cameos of some favorite characters from Leigh’s other books and I get to know new ones too. The Hunter was full of surprises, tension, hilarious scenes, sizzling chemistry and sex appeal. I can’t wait for more books in this world!
My expectations for The Hunter weren‘t so high, because I was rather disappointed by ITUE and AG. However, with this book LJ Shen is back at being one of my favourite authors. The Hunter reminded me why I fell in love with her writing. The banter, passion and character depth is outstanding!
Hunter seems pretty shallow on the outside, but he is so much more than a manwhore and party addict. He is funny, passionate, loyal and intelligent. His family caused some severe damage on him, which is the reason why he acts so careless. There are so many layers to discover and with every chapter I fell more and more in love with him.
Sailor Brennan is the daughter of Sparrow and Troy Brennan. I loved their book so much, which made me super excited for her. I liked her from the start. She wants to be an Olympic and therefore practices to exhaustion. Boys aren’t on her radar, but this handsome guy just marches into her life and sets it on fire. And when I say fire, I really mean it. The passion was so amazing, I seriously had to take some breaks because these two set my kindle on fire.
I loved Hunter and Sailor together. The banter between these two was everything I ever wanted! I loved every second of it. This is an amazing enemies-to-lovers book. Their conversations were so funny and witty. I seriously couldn’t get enough.
Another highlight was how the story progressed and came to full circle in the end. The red string is amazing to follow. All questions are being answered in the end, which I really love because there weren’t unnecessary scenes. The character development ist outstanding! Also the side characters are so fantastic. I seriously can‘t wait for their books. I really fell in love with the Boston Belles and the two love interest. Waiting for The Villain will be extremely difficult, because the protagonist peeked my interest throughout the whole book. I am so excited for this book which will hopefully be released early 2021.
The Boston Belles are an interesting combination of girls, who all stole my heart. I don‘t have any criticism because this book was absolutely amazing, an highlight of 2020!! LJ Shen is back with a witty, sexy and passionate enemies to lovers story, which I highly recommend. Hunter and Sailor were a blast to read about. Also the family dinner scenes were to die for ;-D
I think this book world is my next addiction. Is it too soon to reread The Hunter???
Cheers to another phenomenal book by my favorite enemies to lovers romance writer. As always, the book was crude, nasty, unbelievably addicting, and brought to life a story that won’t soon be forgotten. One thing that I love about Shen is that she ties in characters from other series and other books, most of which originate from the infamous Todos Santos – a city of the insanely rich, powerful and passionate. In The Hunter – she threw in a (short) appearance from Vicious Barron Spencer (my favorite Hot Hole from the Sinners of Saint) and Luna (one of the daughters of another amazing Hot Hole). Now, I’m quite intrigued to read Luna and Knight’s story as well!
Back to the story at hand! Hunter is actually the name of the main character, yet the title is based off of his referencing himself as an actual hunter, and the other MC, Sailor Brennan as his prey. Hunter Fitzpatrick, the illegitimate child of one of the most powerful couples in the U.S. His ‘father’ and hider of his blood status, owns a booming oil company as well as having countless other investments coming out of his ass. They’re a multi-billionaire family, and Hunter is the black sheep with a massive sex addition. He continuously causes public problems for the Fitzpatrick family, so his father puts his inheritance on the line.
After striking a deal with Troy Brennan, a mob boss with his own (actually straight forward) intentions Hunter is forced to move in with Sailor. I love Sailor. She’s one of my favorite of Shen’s characters so far. She’s born into a powerful family, yet she isn’t a spoiled brat, or even supermodel hot as the trope usually entails. Besides, Hunter is hot enough for both of them! Sailor is a tiny little no-makeup wearing thing, with wild red hair and an attitude to match. She’s an archer in the running to compete for a place in the Olympics and she up for the challenge of babysitting Hunter despite his constant pursuance of her.
They each have a transformation to undergo, all the while helping each other uncover betrayal around a couple of very big – life impacting corners. Their love isn’t instant, by no means. At first they seem to loath one another, yet their dynamics are fateful and their pull to one another is intense. I loved this book, it’s up there in my top fav’s of Shens. Of course, I’ll be reading another soon!
Title: The Hunter
Author: L.J. Shen
Genre: Contemporary romance
My rating: 3 Stars
*Honest review*
Welp, wasn’t expecting that! Sorry to say I expected more. The Hunter was less about a developing story and more about who’s (excuse my language) “hole” Hunter could poke his picker through. I wanted to love this book. After ITUE, I thought this would be better. So disappointed in the direction Shen is going. There were some redeeming scenes like a certain…AHEM…altercation that takes place. Hope I’m not spilling took much there. At any rate, my rating is 3 stars because, well, there was more A**holery and less redeeming qualities about thee Hunter Fitzpatrick.
**I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review**
An emotional enemies-to-lovers!!
The Hunter is the first book of LJ Shens new series and let me tell you, it was SO GOOD! It’s a crossover with Sparrow, one of Shens first novels and also my first novel I ever read by her.
It was amazing to hear something from Troy again and it was also amazing to see that he didn’t change at all.
Hunter pretty much has all the cliches a hero of a New Adult novel can have.
Playboy,
gorgeous,
money,
and all the girls want him. And in the beginning he serves all those cliches. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED Hunter. He has great sense of humor, and the more you read the book, the more you will peal down his layers and find an awesome young man. He‘s loyal to the bone and his personal journey from the beginning to the end is fantastic. Even tho he already had my heart when Sailor had a breakdown and he did what he did to make her feel better.
Same goes for Sailor. She’s full of insecurities, and the journey she did in the book was also amazing. It was a fresh change of things that she‘s into archery, that was completely new to me.
The chemistry between Hunter and Sailor was off the charts from the beginning. I adored their banter, how they slowly developed feelings for each other, I just loved everything about them.
The twists ( yes, we have more than one ) were amazing, and I haven’t seen them all coming. I was suspecting some things here and there but the way the turned out and how Leigh let them turned out, you can’t do it much better if you ask me.
I think The Hunter is one of Leighs best work yet. And I don’t say that easily. I wasn’t much of a fan of Angry God, which I feel like the entire universe loved but me. But that’s okay, it happens that you don’t like a book everyone else seems to like.
My point is that this book is very likely going to be a favorite of the year and I have no idea how she wants to top the other books in the series. But I‘m very excited to read them and to find out.
—Audiobook Review—
Loved the steam, the supporting characters and the narration!
The following ratings are out of 5:
Audio/Narration:
Romance:
Heat/Steam:
Story/Plot:
World building:
Character development:
The setting: Todos Santos, CA; Boston, MA
The Hero(s): Hunter Fitzpatrick – one of the heirs to the fourth richest man in the country and CEO of Royal Pipelines. Hunter is the playboy black sheep of the family. He needs his inheritance since he thinks he is not good at anything or able to make a living for himself. He thinks about sex all the time and often acts like a unruly teenager, though he is in college.
The heroine: Sailor Brennen – good girl, tomboy, daughter of the Mob fixer and Hitman Troy Brennen and his wife Sparrow. Sailor is training for the olympics in Archery and focused on only that.
The Love Story: After a recording of an orgy goes viral online, Hunter’s father threatens to cut him off if he doesn’t toe the line. Toeing the line involves working at his father’s office, going to college and abstaining from sex and alcohol. He had to live with good girl Sailor Brennen while she made sure he was being good for six months.
At first I thought this wasn’t quite as good as some of the L.J. Shen books I have read lately, I thought Hunter was a bit moronic and juvenile. However, as the story went along, I discovered I liked the story more and more. Hunter has a difficult relationship with his family and is constantly put down and shut down by them.
I found myself feeling for him and wanting to smack his father, brother and even mother upside the head. I cheered when Sailor spoke up for him and I thought the romance was terrific and super steamy. Hunter has a filthy mouth and quick wit.
As for the narration, it was absolutely terrific! The narrators Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke were both terrific. Jason Clarke had a beautifully deep voice which is what is needed for a hot muscular Hero. I think there was either a second male narrator for Hunter’s brother Cillian (Kill from “The Villain”). Virginia Rose did the female voice with the Boston Accent perfectly. I was so pleased.
Hunter Fitzpatrick is in a lot of trouble. Heir to a powerful family, his love for partying and his complete disregard for his reputation caused his father’s wrath. Sentenced to six months of hard work and impeccable behavior, to improve his public image, he loaths his new life and his nanny. Sailor Brennan is Boston’s promising athlete, and she really needs the Fitzpatrick’s endorsement if she wants to compete in the Olympics. How hard can it be to watch over the spoilt and privileged Hunter? He may be gorgeous and irresistible, but an immature boy like him has no place in her life. Sailor is responsible and focused, and Hunter intolerable and annoying. But as they spend more time together they can’t stop the attraction they feel. Will the hunter capture his prey? Hunter is hilarious and doesn’t appear to take anything seriously. But behind his facade, he hides a vulnerable young man, who has always been abandoned by the women in his life. Rejected by his family, he has chosen a life of pleasure and fun, with no consideration for the consequences. A devastating incident in her childhood left Sailor afraid to form attachments, for fear of hurting those she loves. Can they find the courage to admit that what they have is precious and powerful? Hunter and Sailor’s love is gritty and enthralling! I also loved the secondary characters and can’t wait for their stories!
If you’re looking for a swoony enemies-to-lovers romance, the Hunter is for you!
New from LJ Shen!
Wow, that was a reading experience.
So much mystery in this story with a couple of things that I did not see coming. This plot has so many interesting things going on that I was riveted to the pages. A few gasp-worthy moments and some crazy characters later and I wish I could reread it all over again.
Ohhh Hunter. He might be my favorite hero of LJ Shen’s stories. What you see is what you get. While some of the things he says might be a little crass, he has a good heart inside and you see that throughout the story.
And I am always a sucker for a good awkward heroine. Sailor is definitely unique and she completely owns it too.
I can’t get enough of them together. Chemistry, tender moments and feelings for days.
A sexy friends to lovers, enemies to lovers romance that will have you in stitches. Hunter needed to get his act together or he was going to lose it all. Sailor needs to up her PR to make the Olympic team. The most unlikely of situations brings them together in a mutually beneficial yet slightly skewed arrangement.
Love is often the person you least likely thought you would fall for. For Hunter it is the freedom of distractions that shows him who is his match. Excitement, suspense and love are what you can expect from this amazing read. Great characters and unique story line, L.J Shen does it again!
“The prince is not going to save you, aingeal dian. He is stuck in his castle, fighting his own battle. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and live?”
L.J. Shen has a way of writing that at times you really hate the male character, but at the end you just want to claim him for yourself; yeah she is that good at making you fall in love with an a*hole; they all are but her characters grow and change in a totally believable way.
Hunter is quite the charmer, a ladies’ man; he can have his pick and there nothing more appealing for him. He knows how the world sees him and he’s made peace with it, to being the sexy not so smart son of the owner and CEO of Royal Pipelines; it’s ok…until is not and one sex scandal forces him to be with the only person who doesn’t care who he is, and she just opened his eyes on his own value; the problem is…this agreement is only six months long, what happens next?
Sailor, she has one goal; to go to the Olympics and win the golden medal on archery; that’s why she took the deal from Fitzpatrick, the father of the playboy she’s now supposed to babysit; she feels immune to him, because every one knows that Hunter’s type is…well not her. That is the thing with beauty, it is not there until it is. And Sailor is one of the most beautiful girls inside and outside, and even Hunter can’t help to think that he doesn’t deserve her, but the temptation is there, and he need to taste her at least.
L.J. Shen really outdid herself with this and knowing that this is the first book of a series is just another chip to the already winning pot. This is by far one of my top three books by her, and I can’t wait to read more about the Boston Belles.
5 stars and a favorite
I love LJ Shen books, so of course THE HUNTER was on my I-am-desperate-i-want-it-now TBR list. This will probably be the easiest review I ever wrote. Because this book was beyond perfection. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like of all the characters or the storyline. I just loved everything!!
I LOVED Hunter personality, all his sassiness and also because he is HOT. I LOVED how Sailor fought him and didn’t let him get away of his BS. I loved how they were together, how they became kinda of friends to something more. I also loved all the Boston Belles! I loved ( I mean, it’s a love-hate situation) the potential next heroes and I LOVED more than anything seeing my favorite characters from other books.
I laughed a lot, I wanted to slap a few characters and the last few pages just put a huge smile on my face. I’m so happy that I read this book. I want more, LJ Shen. Can’t f* wait for the next book of this series.
Definitely check out this funny Enemies-to-lovers romance!
I was the archer, but he was the true hunter.
Have you ever felt that even though a book is perfect, you cannot find the right words to describe it? That’s exactly what happens to me with The Hunter. Even though I read it (and enjoyed it) twice, I don’t feel able to put into words everything that this book made me feel and live. But I will try to write a review that does this wonderful story and its characters some justice.
Sparrow was my first book by L.J. Shen , the book that made me fall in love with her characters, her stories and the way of telling them, so when I found out that we were going to have a book about Troy and Red’s daughter, I couldn’t be more excited. That alone should be a great indicator of what Shen accomplishes with her words, because her characters are not just mere figures and her stories are not just words; you love her characters as if they were your family and you live the stories as if you were inside them.
I think if I had to describe this story in a few words I’d say it’s funny, steamy, full of banter moments between Hunter and Sailor, with just the right amount of anguish and a lot of plot twists that you’re going to be glued to the screen of your cell phone, tablet, Kindle or paperback, because you simply WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP READING! The whole story grabs you, and you’ll find yourself wanting to know what’s going to happen next, as you melt away at various times due not only to the temperature reached in some scenes, but also to the sweetness and tenderness of others. Seriously, if you’re as crazy about families and interactions within them as I am, this book will make you swoon over a million times. The cameos, the appearances of secondary characters, everything is perfect and adds just the right touch to the story.
We met Hunter Fitzpatrick in Broken Knight (All Saints High #2) and I can assure you that this guy is much more than just a pretty face and a stunning body (which he also is, of course LOL). His comments and witty thoughts, his way of being, everything! Seriously, I find it very difficult to describe him without going into details that might ruin the experience for other readers, but know that Hunter is a golden boy (as is his heart) and that it is impossible not to love him. There’s so much about him, so much IN him, that when you think you’ve got it figured out, BOOM he goes and surprises you again.
Sailor Brennan is a girl from another planet. I think she’s in my top of favorite heroines, because you just can’t not love her. Seeing her grow from her first appearance, through all her moments of doubt, discovery, healing, until finally getting out of her chrysalis and becoming the butterfly she was always meant to be, is simply amazing and is told in a way that makes you root for her and want her to achieve everything she sets out to do. But make no mistake, Sailor, like Hunter, makes his fair share of mistakes because the path of self-learning and discovery is definitely not an easy one.
I don’t want to go on too long with this review but I need to talk about the interactions between Hunter and Sailor because they are OMG awesome! The constant banter between them, the flirting, the way they heal each other, the way they listen to each other, the support, the electrifying chemistry between the two, from the first moment they meet you know they are destined to be something great. If I had to classify it, I would say this romance is on the side of the slow burn, and it is so well done that it is impossible not to fall in love with them. It’s an enemies-to-friends-to-lovers that will make you sigh countless times, laugh so many times, and melt in your seat as you read it. There are so many tender moments between these two that you really won’t know what hit you when you find yourself totally in love with both of them. It’s those characters that, in the middle of the night, you get out of bed and wonder if they’re okay and what they’re doing at that moment (although, knowing them, I KNOW positively very well what these two are doing at night hahaha).
I can’t finish this review without talking about the Boston Belles. What a WONDERFUL group of girls! Each one of them is incredibly awesome, and I’m sure you’ll love them once you get to know them! The loyalty they have to each other, their friendship, unconditional support, everything! I can’t wait for the next book (and all the books in this series) because I’m sure that whoever the heroine is will be wonderful and bring us a story worth telling.
L.J. Shen gives us a story full of her witty writing, in which the characters fall in love, but also grow up. I think The Hunter is not only about love, but also about loyalty, family and learning to heal and discover yourself, being able to see that what we seem to be may not be what we really are, that sometimes we need a push in the right direction to really be able to reach our full potential.
Trust me, The Hunter is a wonderful story and the perfect way to start this new series. You’re going to be completely satisfied with the plot and can’t wait to get your hands on the next book (seriously, I can’t wait). So go read it, because you won’t regret it.
Filled with endless laugh-out-loud humor, witty banter, and delicious heat, there are no words to adequately describe The Hunter by LJ Shen! An incredible and well developed read, five stars is simply not enough. Readers that enjoyed All Saints High and Sparrow are in for a treat!
I loved the new characters in the Boston Belles series, as well as the familiar faces. LJ Shen does an exceptional job of drawing you in as a reader, engaging our emotions, and telling a story you never want to tend! The Hunter is absolutely no exception!
“… ℎ ℎ , ℎ ℎ.“
LJ Shen has taken her writing to a whole new level of greatness with ℎ .
Leigh never fails to deliver and push boundaries with her writing and characters. ℎ is a witty yet intelligently written delicious slow burn. It is packed with all the heat and sizzle in all the right places, it will leave you wholly captivated, breathless and wanting more.
Hunter Fitzpatrick was not what I expected at all, I did not want to love Hunter after the start of this book, he was cocky and witty, and full of charm in the way we knew Hunter to be back in Todos Santos and ℎ. But, as his layers fell apart, I fell hard, and deeper. I swooned in a way that will make him one of my most unforgettable book boyfriends of all time. What lies beneath his exterior is so much more.
Sailor is exactly what I hoped she would be but yet again I could not predict her character. She’s so real and relatable, a heroine polar opposite to Hunter but they fit so perfectly together. She’s every bit the daughter of Sparrow and Troy Brennan. This heroine saved the Prince and theirs is an unconventional and epic love story that will sweep you away. She has the strength of a warrior.
I was captivated throughout by this delicious slow burn, but mark my words at no point will you feel the need to speed up the pace.
This is the start of the , and already I’m left in eager anticipation for more. Leigh knows how to fuel my addiction and I’m craving my next fix.
