It just happened.
Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.

I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.

Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

The Hunter is one book I will reread over and over again!! Hunter, the cocky arrogant a hole that made me love him after each page. I couldn’t get enough of Hunter and Sailor. The banter between these two had me rolling laughing out loud. Sailor is determined to make it to the Olympics and her only way that will give her the edge that she needs is when she becomes a nanny to the one person she can’t stand. Hunter needs to prove to his family that he deserves his inheritance and to be a part of the family, he definitely wasn’t counting on carrot top to really make him accountable. He was in for a long six months. This book had everything, the cocky broody boy and the over achiever straight arrow girl that is determined to make it to the top. These two are complete opposites, but boy is their chemistry through the roof!! This opposite attracts story is amazing and I can’t wait for more of the Boston Belles!
Holy hell! Hunter is NAUGHTY! I think this may be L.J. Shen’s steamiest read yet! Poor Sailor had no idea what she signed up for, lol. Only a Brennan could handle Hunter Fitzpatrick! That scene in the theater? WOW! I was left with my jaw on the floor. I could not believe how it ended. My heart hurt so much for Sailor, but at the same time, I was so frustrated with her!
I really enjoyed Hunter and Sailor’s story. I’m so glad the real Hunter Fitzpatrick finally stood up! There was so much I wanted to know about him from previous stories, so I loved getting to know him a lot better. Now, I want Cillian’s story! I’m greedy when it comes to L.J. Shen’s stories. I just want more and more, and I can never get enough. I’m addicted!
Fans will devour Hunter’s story and newbies will get their first taste of perfection!
Review by Lys
The Hunter is the first book of the series The Boston Belles by LJ Shen. It follows the story of the side character mentioned in the All Saints High series (check out that series if you haven’t already!) called Hunter and Troy & Sparrow’s daughter Sailor (from the book Sparrow).
Right of the bat I was super excited to read Hunter’s story because as his character was shown in All Saints High, he is totally different from the hero’s LJ writes. Hunter is funny, goofy, charming and your typical playboy jock. Unlike most of LJ’s heroes, he isn’t as dark and cruel. In my opinion, HUNTER IS CUTE AF. His character is so lovable I couldn’t help but adore him as I read further. HIS LITTLE ANTICS JUST MADE ME SWOON OVER HIM. His character is a playboy and the fact that he’s paired up with the one girl who is completely opposite of him and does not fall for his feet was amazing.
Sailor Brennan is your I-DONT-GIVE-A-DAMN character. She is fierce and does not fall for Hunter’s tricks. I loved how in their journey from enemies to lovers, Hunter is able to make Sailor a little more lively, and Sailor was able to make Hunter a little more focused. I guess this is the best part of the opposite attracts.
While living together Hunter and Sailor somehow end up becoming better versions of themselves. You could definitely see the character growth in Hunter. Before he was a person who did not think twice before making reckless decisions and would take things for granted but with Sailor, he becomes more mature and starts to value each and everything thing. Where else with Sailor, I believe Hunter made her more confident as a person and made her believe in herself.
Sailor is Hunter’s anchor, she understood him completely and was able to stand up for him when he was all alone. That’s what I loved the most about this couple. Whenever one of them was down the other one picked up the one’s battles. It was almost like Hunter had this missing piece in his puzzle and that piece missing was Sailor. As for Sailor, even though she has a loving family and a great circle of friends I felt like she wasn’t herself most of the time and Hunter was able to bring that side of her out which is why I think they were the perfect match for each other.
In terms of writing do I even have to say it? This is written by LJ and her writing is pure perfection. The pace of the book was perfect and the plot line was great. I won’t mention anything about the plotline as I feel like it’s better if you just read it and feel for it yourself.
With that being said, I would just say that from their banters to their sexual tension to them falling in love, I enjoyed it all. This was hands down one of my easy light reads. I loved the side characters equally! The Boston Belles were revealed and we also got to see Troy Brennan again. Honestly can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series!
Omg Shen, what did you just do to my feels?!?!? I truly mean this when I say that Hunter and Sailor have taken the spot of my favorite couple from this author.
This story had perfect amount of everything I love about romance. Charismatic characters, a little angst, some drama, fantastic banter, swoony moments and an incredibly entertaining story line. I could not get enough of them.
There’s something uniquely lovable about every hero Shen creates. We all have our favorites, but hunter takes the cake for me because under all of his antics he truly had a heart of gold and was incredibly loyal. I really had no idea what I was in store for going into this book. He was funny and sweet and at times a bit of an ass hole but that was part of his charm. He was unapologetically him and I loved it.
I got a kick out of straight laced Sailor. There was not one thing about her that i didn’t adore. She was strong, laser focused and whip smart. Most of all she didn’t let a pretty face turn her into a babbling idiot. I expected a really well written female and that’s what I got with her. I can always count on the author to give me a perfectly matched couple.
This book was honestly so much fun to read, I didn’t expect so much humor and so many laugh out loud moments. Yet another reason why I loved them so much.
Hunter and Sailor truly balanced each other perfectly. He taught her how to let go and she helped him get his shit together and realize his worth. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes. True love begins with an arrow. LJ, you hit the bullseye with these two.
Hunter is my everything!!!!
25% into the book and I was already so obsessed with him. The Hunter is LJ Shen’s new series, a series that will for sure be an epic one! While I loved Hunter… Sailor was the queen of the book. She was so sassy, savage, and so freaking amazing!!! This book was about two people who are seriously so different from each other, but somehow they make each other whole. Hunter is someone that is used to doing anything he wants without thinking of the consequences. So when he seeks Sailor for help to accomplish what his dad is needing from him, he never expected for Sailor to change his life.
This book was everything I wanted and more!!! I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!!!
I was excited to read book 1 in this new series and alas it wasn’t quite for me.
Maybe it had to do with where my head is at the present moment. Maybe it’s because I’ve over read this genre.
Perhaps, I may change my mind in the future…
This enemies to lovers story had tons of moments that entertained me in part because of the over the top moments, and the snarky humor.
The banter between the main characters was sharp, sarcastic and nasty funny.
Overall, what I realized is I’m getting tired of alpha ahole manwhores with filthy mouths…and over sexed libidos…(maybe until next week!)
However, this read made me laugh and that’s worth a lot!
Read and decide for yourself.
3.5 stars!
I feel like I say this all the time, but she’s done it again. The first book in her new standalone series was so good. Hunter had defiantly made me wonder more than a few times when he showed up in previous books. And Sailor! Troy Brennen’s daughter! need I say more. Their journey was a bumpy one but well worth the road rash. The dynamics between these two characters was entertaining to say the least. When you put a spoiled rich kid with a strong willed female it’s going to go the full twelve rounds. I can’t wait to read about these other strong females in the upcoming books, but there is one brother I am dying for.
I loved The Hunter. It’s light, funny, it’s one of those books that you lose yourself in. I laughed, cried, got mad and fell in love. Hunter and Sailor are great characters and their story is just the light hearted read I needed.
Yes, Hunter is a womanizer. He’s out for fun. Until he is trapped with the one woman who can can tame him. I loved Sailor. She is head strong and tough. The banter between these two characters will have you smiling and wanting everything for them. These two are perfect together and I loved their story.
*Review by Michelle
When I went into it I had something completely different in mind (I blame theories LMAO) but OH MY this book turned out to be everything and more. Sailor and Hunter just absolutely won me over, it’s always so hard to write reviews without spoiling but let me say their banter is outstanding, their chemistry is off the charts and they had me laughing so many times. This book had some of my absolute favourite tropes and I think LJ did them all so incredibly well! Many times I was like damn how is this gonna play out but I was never disappointed. Also the plot twists OH MY there was a few and every one of them had my mind blown so 10/10 there aha.
Now enter the girls aka The Boston Belles…
I freaking LOOOOOOVE these women so much like where do I fill out the application to be one of them (or marry one of them)? Meeting them in this book was perfect because now I’m obsessed with them and I’m in need of all their books immediately. The dynamic just seems perfect and I’m very interested in seeing much more.
Sailor Brennan was just *chefs kiss* I stan this girl for life now. The way she viewed herself was all too real, so many times I was like yup that’s exactly me but other times it made me so sad which made me thinks lots. Also her drive was just amazing to read this girl was strong af while also having lots of insecurities. She also had me craving so many of my favourite foods, honestly Sailor is just a girls girl and I think everyone will love her.
Lastly Hunter Fitzpatrick, this guy just had me swooning and laughing so many times I couldn’t get enough of his jokes or his nicknames (cries in gaelic). Also I loved that he actually wasn’t an insanely arrogant hero he was also an insecure person that just wanted family like ugh my heart.
To finish off my review I have two things, first this book was the PERFECT start to a new series and I am so beyond thrilled for the next books, the introduction to the next characters were just so good even if we got small pieces I am ready for the next three. Secondly Cillian is the man of my dreams and I am sure LJ wrote him for me 😉
LJ Shen as done it again! From the very first page, I was sucked into this story-playing it in my head like a movie. I never thought I would love Hunter and his world as much as I loved Todos Santos, but I was gravely mistaken. What Leigh never meant to write as a separate book (let alone a series) was probably the best decision she could have possibly made.
Hunter had me laughing out loud throughout the entirety of this book, but at the same time made me feel. This book wasn’t just about his relationship with sailor, but also about his relationship (or lack thereof) with his family. I loved seeing it al come together and I CANNOT wait to read more from the Boston Belles series. 5 FLAMING HEARTS AND ARROWS FOR HUNTER!
{I received this as an ARC in exchange for an Honest review}
I have fallen hard y’all. This book was so wonderful. It is one of my favorite L.J. Shen books. It was so surprising. It took me a while to fall for Hunter but once I did it felt like I have loved him forever. Sailor is one of my favorite heroines. She is shy and insecure while also being a badass and is not afraid to stand up for herself. The way they fall in love is so freaking sweet. They fall without even realizing. This story is so fresh and inspired. It shows two character who could not be more different not only fall for one another but also grow so much in the time they are together. This book is so good. These characters and their banter are everything. My heart is so full just thinking about Hunter and Sailor. This was the perfect contemporary romance. It was sexy and exciting and will have you feeling everything. I literally could not put it down. I was up until 2 am reading. I tried to put it down so I could sleep but I just keep picking it back up because I did not want to leave Hunter and Sailor for even a second. I am seriously so in love with this story. It is one of Leigh’s best! I can not get it out of my head. I am so happy I read this book.
” — , . , . .”
Can we take a quick second to appreciate how brilliant those words are?
I Loved this book, and I’m gonna be honest I wasn’t entirely sure if I would. From the small glimpses we’ve gotten of Hunter in the past, I wasn’t in love but those books did not do him justice. He’s hilarious, sarcastic and adorable. Sure, the majority of it was in a pervy way but I’m still all the way there for it.
” ’ . ’ .”
Gahh I love how both Sailor and Hunter supported each other and had each others back even before they got together. Their friendship/banter was my favorite part. They gave off bestfriend vibes that I adored. They were absolutely perfect for each other. I can’t wait for the rest of this series!!
Excuse me while I go dye my hair red and pretend to be a badass.
A new book and a completely new series from one of my favorites authors!
I didn‘t had a clue how the story would be and I really enjoyed reading it.
Hunter was a genius character. He has so much more than you think. At the beginning I couldn‘t believe he would be so special. He is intelligent, honest, funny and of course a womanizer.
But he has a place in my heart now.
And I loved the development in Hunter‘s family!
Sailor is different but I also liked her. She has one target and wants it badly. Hunter shows her other ways and there comes a point when she begins to think about it.
The first 50% were a little difficult because the plot was very slowly. The other 50% were thrilling and I couldn‘t stop reading.
I knew many things which were explode at one point. So they weren‘t plottwists for me.
And the ending. Absolutely perfect!
I hope the next book is about Sam and Aisling. It hast to be! And it will be great!
Thanks to L.J. Shen and Socialbutterfly PR for sending me a copy of „The Hunter“!
Not only did I devour the Sinners of Saint and the All Saints High series but I also loved that they can all be enjoyed as standalone reads. Now Shen has set in motion a brand new series with the first book in the Boston Belles series, The Hunter. And how could she not have given us a walk-on character who’d taken me by storm, who’d got the ball rolling in Vicious, Baron Spencer? Shen has subtly entwined other well-known players into this enemies-to-lovers romance, taking the utmost care not to confuse her new readers. So newbies and not so newbies, prepare yourselves for a roller coaster ride of emotions to remember!
Funnily enough, I recently read that one book which had escaped me, Sparrow. If you’re familiar with the story, you’ll know that Troy Brennan is a reputable businessman unless proven otherwise! Why may you ask does this dedicated family man’s daughter agree to babysit Hunter Fitzgerald 24/7 when failing to make the grade in her sports career is a no-no? While there are benefits for Sailor, Hunter’s style is about to be cramped by this gal with a no-nonsense, make the best of a bad situation work attitude.
Hunter’s last sexcapade was the last straw, and the price to pay for getting back into his aloof father’s good books is non-negotiable. I can’t tell you how sorry I felt for him and not because of what had happened, either. Learning about him growing up in a dysfunctional family left my heart hurting. But all is not lost. Sailor sees in Hunter what no-one had. They have their ups and downs, they become friends and I grinned from ear to ear.
Even though I smiled when the cat was let out of the bag, it made me kinda sad, too. But Shen’s unique character development, fan-blinkin’-tastic banter, steaminess and a couple of really well-thought-out surprises make this book a read-worthy one. Bravo!
This one is a sweet, funny, enemies-to-lover page turner!
There are few authors who inspire as much loyalty and deep devotion as the amazing LJ Shen- so you can imagine the mystery and mania that has surrounded this all new series arriving on the heels of the end of a series that not only inspired legions of devoted fans but that has also indelibly sealed LJ as the queen of emotion, angsty, soul-wrenching love stories.
We have everything we’ve come to expect about an LJ Shen story- carefully crafted menagerie of characters, vivid and nuanced character developed, artful writing with a plot full of twists and turns and drama but that also sparkles with quiet, intimate moments that flutter your tummy, a larger than life hero who can’t be tamed, a heroine with layers that is somehow both gentle and fierce, soulful connections, and the right dash of STEAM. (holy chapter 1, LJ)
While the Hunter has what I know and love about LJ- the Hunter also felt fresh and different, not only perhaps the next iteration of LJ as a storyteller but also what felt like a new breed of hero in Hunter. I love to see an author stretch, take risks, evolve- even in subtle ways that somehow help me open my eyes to them anew. The pace, the hero, the tone all feel evolutionary to the Shen catalogue- and open exciting possibilities for this series.
The Hunter took more time to hook me than prior LJ books (particularly when I’m STILL hungover from Angry God), I didn’t find myself reading with the frenzied fervor I’ve come to expect from LJ books until about midway, but the more I reflected, the more I appreciated this. This book not only feels different in tone (more on that later), but also feels different because it isn’t mired in 2 generations of history and backstory in a world we’re already rabid for, with characters we’re already planning to name our children after. No, The Hunter is a whole new (adjacent) world, a whole new series, with all new characters (we didn’t really KNOW Hunter before now). Thus, LJ smartly takes her time here- letting us swim around in this new world, marinate in the essence of our characters, eat up the scenery Sailor and Hunter don’t have the kind of history that the totholes do- their love story wouldn’t be believable at the same pace as Luna and Knight’s, for example, who start their book by already loving each other. And that wouldn’t be true to these characters I started to appreciate the seemingly leisurely but more than likely intentional way LJ just lets these characters, this story breathe- she builds the foundation, pouring steadily and evenly- she lays the characters and the intricate web of interconnected dynamics brick by brick, layer by layer, and she gently and subtly builds Sailor and Hunters connection one carefully engineered and beautifully rendered moment at a time. The pace is softer, lighter, more languid, to match the tenor of the nature of this love story, to match the steady, careful threading of these beautiful souls.
One of my favorite LJ men ever, Hunter is a new breed of LJ hero, a fresh and inspired evolution of leading men from her long list of delicious heroes. He really ran away with my heart and this book. He’s not your typical LJ alpha. Sure, he has some painful histories that shape his attitude like all her other leading men that gives him that familiar veil of sadness- but the way he manifests that is fresh and different. He’s more laid back, purposefully aloof, even non-assertive at times. He’s got that crude brashness, but he’s kinder, gentler, less dominant (but still enough), and a lot more open and honest about himself and to others. He’s also FUNNY- yes, FUNNY- instead of being a tortured soul like his friends. For many of LJ’s men you love them in spite of their less than awesome moments/characteristics, but with Hunter, I found myself loving him BECAUSE of them. Despite being aloof, he’s incredibly self aware. Not to mention insanely charming- he is simply magnetic. He just wants to feel seen and understood, to have purpose.
While Hunter lives too much, Sailor lives too little. She took more time for me to adore, but when I found her heart’s center, I felt so connected to her. She’s reclusive, disciplined, independent, and tenacious. She’s principled and lives with integrity, in part a facade to protect herself from emotional harm. She’s kind and gentle but is also sassy and assertive. She, too, is funny. Underneath it all, she just wants to feel worthy, to feel unique and special, and I’ve never related to a character’s motivation more.
Their chemistry felt more intimate and subtle, slower and more fluid and less linear- less explosive but no less sizzling and warm. Their fire was slowly stoked and thus feels more steady, more stable, because our characters learned to admire and respect each other people and as unintentional friends first, and I loved seeing a sweet, tender depiction of how building an intimate and meaningful connection with someone not only changes how you see them but how you see yourself, how you understand yourself.
As for tone, as I mentioned, this book is really funny at times. LJ has nailed the dark, the angsty, the deeply tortured souls and painful love stories in her last series, and sure, we still get that, but the tone is lighter here overall- less twisted, less intense, and much more humorous (thanks to Hunter). The connections are no less sacred, no less meaningful- but our characters have fun together, they are both funny as hell, and I laughed so much in the first few chapters that I knew this would have more whimsy.
Did the Hunter shatter and devastate and rip out my soul like her last few books? No- but I’m glad it didn’t. My soul was no less impacted- instead, I felt affirmed and emotionally raw for a different reason- because Hunter inspired some tenderness, warmth, and joy in me, left me feeling fuller and a lot more hopeful. I’m both excited about this new series and excited to see an author of life both nail what she does best while also branching out in this new world.
While The Hunter has a different, lighter feel than the characters that live in San Todos, it’s still equally entertaining and feelings are not spared.
This opposites-attract romance is full of banter that kept me entertained. Hunter alone kept me entertained with his one-liners. The author gave Hunter a strong, female counterpart that will give him a run for his money.
The chemistry between these two starts slow but even when they didn’t like each other, Hunter and Sailor still had each other’s backs when others didn’t.
I also enjoyed the female camaraderie in this book. For so long, it’s been the guys who connect the stories. I’m glad that LJ Shen is giving The Boston Belles series a different spin by letting the girls be the connection this time.
The Hunter by L.J. SHEN
“You have to let life touch you. Drown a little with me, baby.”
I was really excited that we were getting new characters. Although Hunter has been in the last two books, and Sailor is the daughter of another beloved couple, Sparrow and Troy (and they are still so perfect) It felt nice to step into a new world. And what a crazy world that was. We knew nothing of Hunter and Sailor. And they were not what I was expecting.
Hunter has no filter. He can say the most bizarre things at the most inappropriate times. He also loves himself a little too much. He is honestly so funny. Hunter is this lost, lonely, misunderstood hero. He is trying to find his purpose. He doesn’t think he is worthy of love. But he has a heart of gold and he will always fight for the people he care about.
Sailor was absolutely lovely. She is kind, sweet, independent and strong. She has her own insecurities but is not afraid to be herself. She was so real. And she is not afraid to put Hunter in his place. Hunter and Sailor’s friendship was so precious. I love their banter. They balance each other out so perfectly. Sailor brings him to life. She makes him, and us, see his worth.
I love Sailor’s girlfriends, the Boston Belles. They had a great dynamic and were so much fun. Their personalities complimented each other perfectly. So sassy, strong and fierce. Sailor’s brother Sam is a character I can’t wait to read about. And then there’s Cillian. Let’s just say that you guys are not ready for him. I’m still wondering what the heck!
“The prince is not going to save you, aingeal dian. He is stuck in his castle, fighting his own battle. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and live?”
Title: The Hunter

4 He was the Hunter. I was the prey stars!
Okay I’m contemplating if this book is gonna be a 3.5 or 4 stars(tbh!) and obviously I stick for 4 stars. I know for the fact that every Leigh Shen books are always hyped. I’m actually nervous reading this, because her Angry God I didn’t really enjoy reading and gave it a 3 stars rating.
But surprise surprise this book is actually a fun one to read. The first 60% of the book, well I’m gonna be honest I’m freakin bored, the pacing is so slow there’s no action between the characters, well I love the banter the teasing and building of the characters. But when I hit the mark of 70% things starting to get more exciting & interesting. And I just wanna say I always love the Epilogue on every LJ shen books.
Hunter Fitzpatrick oh boy, he’s so funny, charming, Sweet and of course – – – Grade A asshole. An Heir to a multi million company Royal Pipelines.
“He was fearless, and a rebel, and a sinner, and a saint.
A prince who’d never wanted his title.
A pure-hearted rake.”
Sailor Brennan, strong, loyal and loving character as for every Leigh’s FMC.
“I was the bow.
He was the arrow.
We hunted together. A team.
We were also each other’s prey.”
Overall this is just a fun, sweet and lighthearted to read. And I can’t wait for what this author store for us in the future.
“Indulge me baby, why? Because I’m your favorite villain.”
