If you have not read the book and you like thrillers this one is for you. High seas adventure
Still one of the great reads of all time!
Was original when i read it in 80s. Single reading in one night
almost predicted history. a page turner
love Jack Ryan
This book sucked me in and kept me up reading half the night!
One of Clancy’s best efforts.
As much as I disliked Tom Clancy himself, this is a great read.
Classic Cussler
Great read!
Original Clancy.
There was too much technical information. The movie is one of my favorites
Great and realistic technology and characters. Memorable
I read this book many years ago and became a Clancy fan in the process.
I think the one thing that jumped out at me that I remember is the remarkable marriage of astronomical risk taken by both the Soviet sub captain Ramius (together with his closest officers) and the American defense establishment (the SecDef and others) due to the advocacy of analyst Jack Ryan. While this essential element of the plotline seems completely beyond reality, it weaved itself into the story in such a way that made it seem plausible.
Incredible detail in many segments made it brim with realism. A great first novel from an author that wrote many great military/political thrillers.
What’s not to like, everything you could want in a book and a movie.
One of the great, early Tom Clancy books.
The story line is kind of dated now but the depth and detail of this cold war era story is still a good one.
One of the first “adult” novels I can remember reading, the Hunt for Red October captured my imagination, as did its movie. Perfectly paced, impeccably researched, and spot on characters present a classic thriller for the ages. Oh, and a great movie too, even if the Russian captain had the wrong accent! 🙂
Well, I learned more about submarines than I expected to. The action scenes were good, with a lot of detail. So, sometimes it seemed more like a movie script.
A special agent with a tenuous link to a Russian submarine commander helps bring him and his crew in to the US while fooling the Russians and his crew! It’s a tense ride when everyone wants him, but one side would rather see him dead!
