Death marked her from her very first breath.Being sired by a Madrid is supposed to be a blessing, but for Tempest, it’s a curse that leaves her orphaned, penniless, and enslaved to a blood thirsty crown on the brink of war.Found too unruly to become a ward of the court, she’s thrust into the care of the King’s Hounds – the assassins and warriors responsible for protecting the kingdom. Driven by … protecting the kingdom. Driven by rage and an oath to avenge her mother’s memory, Tempest throws herself into training.
But becoming the first ever female assassin isn’t enough. Now, she must obtain the heart of her kingdom’s most feared enemy – the jester – a deadly shapeshifter hidden in a land twisted by myth and darkness.
Revenge is never easy or cheap. Tempest is willing to sacrifice everything to see justice served. Even her own soul and freedom.
Enter the world of the Twisted Kingdoms at your own risk where monsters wear pretty masks, good and evil are at war, and fairy tales don’t exist. If you love fiery heroines, sexy villains, enemies-to-lovers romance, pulse-pounding action, mafia undertones, and dark fairy tales, you need to discover the new series readers are comparing to Holly Blacks’s Cruel Prince and Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows.

Can I just say this cover is amazing and very eye catching!
I enjoyed this fantasy short about a dark retelling of snowman and the huntsman.
It was a very well written and the characters were written with so much depth that o was hooked from start to finish.
I will read more from this author
I picked this book up on discount from another author’s newsletter and I’m so glad I did. This is a fantastic series full of mystery, twists and turns, fabulous characters, action, adventure, and a touch of romance. This first book is a little frustrating with the MC being a bit cocky and stubborn but it’s her convictions that ultimately make her such a strong character. Tempest has trained to be one of the king’s assassins since she was five but her first assignment may be more than she can handle. All she has to do is find the source of the mysterious illness killing shifters and bring back the heart of the rebel leader causing her king so much grief. Only the Jester isn’t what she’s been led to believe and the unrest in the kingdom isn’t quite as black and white as she always thought. When treachery lies around every corner maybe the only person she can trust to save the kingdom is herself.
I was not ready for this book to end, and then it did. I love Tempest and Pyre’s story so flipping much! So many twists and turns have led them to this final show down with the king and it was so worth it. So many questions have been answered and I finally got the rest of Tempest and Pyre’s love story. Those two are amazing together and I am sad to see their story come to an end. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this amazing world.
The Hunt by Frost Kay is the first in the Twisted Kingdoms series and its an amazing adventure!! Tempest is a great character, strong and determined. The first ever female Hound and a complete bad ass! Oh, but what a web she has been caught in!! Fast paced and a great read, this is also my first read from this Author and I am definitely a new fan! The audio narration was also perfect and fitting to the book.
Cant wait for more
This is an amazing read, one that once you start you will not be able to put down! Well written with incredible world building as we follow the the first female hound / assassin on her journey.

I absolutely loved this and cannot wait to read more!
Holy Mother Forking Shirt Balls – this was an awesome read.
The Hunt was everything I hoped it’d be. I spent way too much time scrolling through KU trying and failing to find a strong female protagonist before stumbling across this beauty.
My girl Tempest earned the SFP title within the first few chapters. Growing up with only men in the castle’s barracks shaped her into being hardheaded and stubborn to a fault, which baffles just about everybody – especially the handsome devil, or should I say fox, named Pyre.
When he finds Tempest, one of the kings Hounds, sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong, he becomes determined to do everything in his power to scheme her to his side instead of the king’s. But with a ‘disease’ wiping out villages, revenge for her mother’s killer on her mind, and the king’s advances for her hand in marriage, Tempest doesn’t have time to play Fox and Hound in the woods with Pyre. She’s on a mission: bring the king the Jester’s heart and she gains a seat on his war council. Find her mother’s killer. Become a good Hound. And fight for the innocent.
Absolutely, mind-blowingly fantastic! I am on such a hyped up book high and can’t put into words all that I’m feeling. The fantasy world was full of dark corners, political games, and shifting appearances which kept my attention peaked. While I’m madly in love with the main characters, I also feel mildly possessive and attached to multiple secondary characters. While I found the fairy tale influences more subtlety woven into it, the story was so strong this didn’t affect my enjoyment at all. The story hooked me quickly and I’m reeling with excitement and anticipation for the next book! If you enjoy complex fantasy with political intrigue and tantalizing slow-burn romance, this is a must-read!
3.5
“I don’t doubt that.” He chuckled and held out a hand. “Are you ready to stand at my side?”
“Not your side,” she began, “but on the side of justice.”
Pyre smiled a grin full of sharp, delighted canines.
“Then it’s a good thing those two are one and the same.”
Interesting story, enough to keep me going and thinking about it. Great plot, but I would prefer a little insight into characters. I might prefer it in first POV for the same reason. Putting that aside, I really did enjoy it. The heroine thinks with her own head and that alone adds to the charms of the story.
The Hunt (Twisted Kingdoms) by Frost Kay is the first book in a brand new series! It’s an adrenaline pounding story about an orphaned girl named Tempest. She is about to face the Trial, which will determine her becoming a Hound. She goes from the frying pan into the fire. Tempest has to find out the truth, but learning the truth can really hurt. This is a page-turner with great characters!
I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This book was epic!! Tempest is a bad ass! And I can’t even get enough of the cover!! Definite must read!!
Like every beautiful fairytale, this story begins with a happy child, full of love and joy, only to be struck with tragedy.
The author does a great job sucking you in with the very first chapter that I knew I wasn’t going to put the book down until the very. last. word.
Tempest is orphaned at a young age and when found has a physical marker proving that she belongs to an auspicious bloodline. This leads to her being brought up with the Kingdom’s elite warriors, The Hounds. These rough and tumble men do their best to teach and train Tempest as they would anyone else in their ranks so that she can fight before the King and Kingdom to become the very first female Hound. Yay, feminism.
Tempest is now a Hound and (with no spoilers given) she has her very first mission. It’s a doozy.
This fairytale is turned on its head.
With a crisp gender-swapped reimagining of ‘The Huntsman’ and dashes of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, the world built in this first book of the series really captures your attention.
I found the descriptions of people, places, sights, sounds and even textures to be so vivid that I could imagine I was sitting observing each moment as it unfolded.
Book one in the Twisted Kingdom series has left the gate at a full gallop! I enjoyed the characters very much being so fleshed out with the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Fans of Erin A. Craig, Meagan Spooner, and Marissa Meyer will love this tale of fantastical mystery, truth and lie, corruption and innocence.
I’m super excited to find out what happens next.
Tempest is on Bad ____ Girl!!
“I love the fantasy genre.. Authors like Kay Frost who write these Amazingly Epic stories are the reason why.. And this is just the beginning of The Twisted Kingdom series.. I seriously can not wait to read the next installment of this series
Thrilling story of Tempest striving to become the first female in her profession. I, however, did not like the ending. It seems to be a malicious cliffhanger which left an emptiness where my heart is supposed to be.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
A daring attempt, albeit a successful one, to mix several fairytales in one dark series. Very well written. Although nothing less is to be expected from Ms Kay. Anything she writes is well worth the read. Our protagonist, Tempest, was raised by Hounds who are the king’s avaunt guard since her mother had died in a fire when she was only a small child. Eventually she became the first female Hound ever. Determined and undaunted she set out on her first mission for the king. Little did she know that her eyes would be opened to the atrocities that her king was inflicting upon a his lower class citizens by the very people who lovingly raised her. I loved every character depicted in this story, even those you love to hate. Each character was unique and written in depth. I could very well picture the scenery as described such that I became engrossed in the story. The ending has a little hook to it that leaves you definitely wanting more. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I can easily highly recommend it for all fantasy lovers everywhere.
Fantastic!!!
I love this book so much, the storyline is incredible, it got me since the first page to the last one, the world building is amazing, and the twists and turns will keep you on edge.
Tempest is so amazing, badass but also gentle and noble, you will love her right away.
A must read, can’t wait for the next book!!!
Sometimes I’m happy I’ve got Kindle Unlimited. When I discover that Frost Kay has a new series out, and then find out that – based on its first book, The Hunt – The Twisted Kingdoms is going to be a pretty darn incredible fantasy, well that’s the time to bless KU as I will be addictively following this one. I loved Tempest, the first ever female assassin and a heck of wonderful kick-a** gal. I expect that anyone else will love her, and this book, too.
