My name is Hunter O’Shea and I have a confession to make…I’ve met a girl who consumes me. I know that makes me sound completely whipped, but Mary “Lamb” Mitts has the power to bring me to my knees…it’s just too bad she hates my guts. But that’s okay, because I hate hers, too. The fiery redhead stirs something in me that I can’t explain. This temporary insanity could be due to the fact my best … friend, who used to be a bigger player than me, is getting married. That must be it. I’m caught up in an Oprah moment. The only solution is to get back in the game and forget she exists. That theory is great—too bad I don’t want anyone else. I…just…want…her. I’m so screwed.

The secondary story line was most interesting
Hunter O’Shea is a player. He doesn’t do relationships or entanglements. He is, however, enthralled by Mary Mitts, the gorgeous and sassy redhead who happens to be best friends with his best friend’s fiance. For some reason, she has the power to make Hunter think about all of the things he doesn’t want out of life, such as a real relationship, and possibly even the “L” word.
Hunter will just need to up his game and player status . . . unfortunately, the only woman he wants is Mary.
Mary Mitts has been burned in the past and made to feel worthless. Guys don’t stick around. So, pursuing anything with a player is definitely off the table, even if she is crazy attracted to him. When she needs his home and office to design in order to finish her final project for her Interior Design degree however, they begin spending way too much time together, and the explosive chemistry has them both breaking their own no relationships rules. Can they make it last, though, or will it simply be a lust filled fling?
I adore a book with sassy talking rapport filled with innuendos and sarcasm, and The Hunt had that in spades. Both Hunter and Mary use talk as a way to deflect their own true feelings which gives readers some truly entertaining dialogue.
While Hunter and Mary cat and mouse around their relationship, we learn a bit more about why they are both have issues with committing. Neither are great at admitting their feelings and they both have trust issues. When the beautiful Kiera enters the game and begins playing both Hunter and Mary, all bets are off and the tenuous strings holding Hunter and Mary together are thoroughly tested.
Overall, this is a really fun read with great banter, sexy scenes, comedic intervals, intrigue and some heart-felt romance. There were a few spots where the plot seemed to slow down and drag a bit for me, as I enjoy a faster pace, but I enjoyed Hunter and Mary immensely. 4 stars.
This was a spin off from Dirty Dix & Wicked Dix, but I read this one as a standalone and was totally able to follow along. If anything it made me want to read about Dixon that much more.
“He oozed confidence, sex appeal, and that mouth…I should detest that mouth, but I don’t. I want it all over me.”
This is not only the best way to describe Hunter, but a great explanation of the book boyfriends we all love. Something about a smart, cocky mouth that drives us wild.
I love a good “bad boy”.
Mary was just the “Lamb” to break this alpha. Strolling in with guns blazing from her red head to her fiery personality.
Hunter and Mary were both such strong personalities that watching them try to “top” each other was entertaining and MERCY, these two know how to burn up the pages in and out of the bedroom!
After two amazing books, and a lot of questions about one is the secondary character, the need to read this book was through the roof.
Monica James created this amazing series that you need to read.
It’s a sweet, sexy, and funny series with lots of emotions into the mix.
Her writing will hook you up.
The Hunt is the third book from the Hard Love series and explores Hunter’s life.
But I must advise you to read the first two books from this series. This last book is a standalone but I know that you’ll want to start from the beginning.
Hunter is a playboy. The guy who only believes in one night stands and that’s it.
But things are about to change…
One look at Mary and he thought that nothing would happen between them, mainly because she hates him… Or doesn’t she???
This book was just what I thought it was.
Perfect plot, well written, super engaging, intense, and hot as hell.
Once I started to read it I simply couldn’t put it down.
It was one intense chapter after the other.
The way things were progressing made it impossible to resist reading a bit more.
You might not believe me but I ended this book at 3 am.
It was that good.
The way these two were with each other… It was infuriating at times but them they just melted my heart and took my soul hostage.
How can two stubborn heads turn things around?
How can they have this love so intense that made my heart burst with joy?
There were parts of this book that I laughed so hard that I almost wet my panties. Lol
And the hit scenes… Guts, the hit scenes are to die for.
Overall, it was a great series and I can’t wait to read another book from this author.
Great book Monica. Perfect and of course… I want more.
The Hunt is a Hard Love spin-off standalone novel. I read Dirty Dix and that is where I was first introduced to Hunter, the manwhore and Mary Mitts, the one that won’t touch him with a ten foot pole. If anyone knows there is a fine line between love and hate…it’s these two.
Hunter hates Mary and wants her all at the same time. He has it bad for the fiery redhead. He would give his left nut to have one taste of her and he knows she would gladly cut it off. That shouldn’t turn him on but it does. If looks could kill he would have been dead on sight when they met. She knew exactly who he was. Resident crude asshole that had no problem eye fucking her from the other side of the room. She might think he is a cocky pervert but she has no idea…
Mary hates Hunter with a passion. She hates the way he makes her feel. Wanted. She had her heart broken once by a cheater and she won’t go there again. And that is exactly what would happen with Hunter. He would finally get what he wanted and then throw her out. That is who is his. She might talk about what a disgusting pig he is but she also respects that he knows who he is and owns it. And she knows that she can be a bitch to him and owns it. It’s not the perfect beginning but it’s something. He pushes. She pulls. Until they both pull in and take what they want. Hate sex at its best…
Hunter and Mary’s “relationship” is a complex one. The hate. The lust. The jabs. The fucks. It’s all wrapped up in one crazy-fuel passion of want. They both want more but don’t know how it works. They are both afraid so they do what they do best. Well…second best. Give each other shit but in different ways. At the same time they do what they do best…have flirty sex whenever and wherever they could. It could start out as a fight. It could start with just one wink or one raised eyebrow. It’s exactly what I said…they know that line well. By the end, what side will they be on?
I loved this book! It is not just about their ups and downs in and out of the bedroom. There are twists. There is beauty. There is evil. It is addictive. I fell for the crudeness of Hunter. He owns it. If you are not a fan of cursing in books then this is your there is cursing and a lot of it. Not just from Hunter either. Mary might be called Lamb by her best friend but she is no lamb. She is a badass ram. She gives just as much as she takes. She is fast witted. Together, they are hilarious, heated, and when one gets jealous, watch out. They are not a couple that deal with hearts and flowers. It’s more like fire and scotch.
Overall…I fucking loved it!! It’s addictive, sexy, crazy, and everything you want in a hate/love story. It’s heated. These two are complicated and oh, so sexy at the same time. It’s passion-fueled.
P.S I am not a fan of the man bun but I still love you, Hunter.
Quotes:
“Save your breath for when you have to blow up your girlfriend tonight.”
“You have three seconds…three seconds to stop me before I part those fucking lips with my tongue, and I won’t be gentle about it.”
She giggles, and I swear to god, if Satan had a doorbell, this would be it.
Overall an enjoyable read. There H/h were introduced in a previous book and those characters were very much present in this book. The story was easy to follow and moved at a nice pace. Good entertaining book
