In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death … it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I love this series…..great dystopian read to escape our world….hey of you think we got it bad….read this.
LOVE!!!
The book was great, I read it before it was ever made into a movie.
Page turner. Interesting ideas on a futuristic world.
Amazing- love this book and this Author. Won’t comment on other books because they are all amazing and I feel I can sum them all up in one comment. Again- amazing. If you have not read DIVERGENT, that would be a good next series after this one.
I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Story is original and the characters are very enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Great series. Couldn’t put them down. A must read.
Fabulous book. The series will stay with you long after you finish.
New twist on an old story, that is engaging and pushing you read the next book.
This is a book I could read over and over again. Fighting for your life with 23 other young men and women which was decreed as a way to keep the peace in Panam. Well there is one girl who spurs hope to all of the people. Will she live to tell about it or die?
loved it!
This book, in fact the entire series was loved by myself and my high school Students! I had to purchase so many copies, I lost Count!
Never dreamed book 2 and 3 would be as good, but I felt the author never failed to come up with surprises for her readers.
Even loved the movies, although I always find the book better. You get so much more detail, understand the plot better, and you actually enter the story. Too often movies leave me feeling that things I felt were important were left out.
Just an amazing series! I would recommend to anyone.
This is one of my favorite series of all time and surprisingly versatile for a young fiction piece. Traffic to think of a world like this and a game with a war like ending but the rest is a work of beauty.
Well written and great story
Great series
When I first picked up The Hunger Games … I didn’t get it. Man, those first 20 or so pages, I just did not get it! Not like I didn’t understand, but I was really wondering if all of the people who said it was so amazing were simply delusional and jumping on the fad bandwagon. But I got to the part when the games started … and I got it.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!! I love it almost to the point of hating it because I’ve now gotten started on another series that was made for kids but I adore. This is such a damn good book that I was startled by how much I loved it. That’s not to say that the whole premise of the book didn’t really bother me. Sending our kids in to kill each other? That’s pretty messed up. Collins did such a great job developing the characters and the story line that there weren’t any questions I was left with at the end of the book. I felt like I had been right there with them while it was happening – that’s the best kind of story in my mind.
Anyway, great book … push through those first few confusing pages and give it a try! Don’t be afraid to jump on the bandwagon with all the rest of us!!
Best YA trilogy ever!
This book kept me interested through the final pages, but was so sad and devastating in general.
Absolutely loved this whole series!! I devoured all 3 books in a weekend.
