In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death … it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Great book page turner
An absolutely amazing book. I had seen the movies before reading The Hunger Games, and I can safely say that the boo, in 100% better them the movie. I cant wait to start the next book.
Stop reading after the first book, the rest of the series sucks
Not my favorite series. Never been a fan of most dystopian books.
I only recently read the book, and I was so very impressed that I went on to read the trilogy.
Book 1. The Hunger Games
I saw the movie The Hunger Games once, a long time ago. A game until death. Forced participation of prisoners. The last one standing is the winner. The entire game is for entertainment. . The winning of the games is sort of an escape from prison. That theme has been done so many times. So many movies on that line that the movie didn’t really impress me.
On the book
It is almost just about a game, a deadly competition. There is a lot of ‘action’. However, the action is very well written. In fact, if you see the movie and read the book, many of the action sequences are far better in the book which is not in fact typically true of ‘action’. So that’s score 1 for the author.
Score 2 is the characters. They are very well fleshed out. Katniss. Her backstory, Gale, Rue, Cinna and many more. The characterisations are compelling. They pull the reader in. In book one though I would say Peeta is kind of a weak character. Maybe portrayed as weak intentionally.
The buildup to the games. The stylists, the interview, portraying yourself to the sponsors, hiding yourself from your competitors, the scoring, all are quite compelling.
Score 3 is you don’t feel you are quite done yet and want to go back for more.
I would definitely recommend readers to jump in.
I think this book was a brilliant
I can see why Hunger Games resonated with young adults and adults alike. The chapters are short and sweet making it a fast paced thriller. The style of writing easy to follow with just the right amount of description. And the story itself is ingenious. It is one of those tales I wish I would’ve written. I look forward to finishing the trilogy.
Very well written. Fascinating World & the characters will really keep your attention. Everyone from teens to adults will like this series.
I’ve always loved action-packed fiction books but after I read this…OMG I was in love. Its so interesting and I couldn’t stop reading and if you were wondering I will ALWAYS be on team Peeta
This is the best dystopian novel I have ever read. I’ve read quite a few too. It’s not always pretty, but in order for it to say something and have a message it couldn’t be pretty. Yes, there are children fighting to the death for people’s entertainment in the story, but it’s not written to entertain the reader. It there to show how wrong and messed up that is! How in the world can we have reality tv shows on “surviving” when there are people trying to actually survive just day to day. It’s absolutely absurd!
The characters in this story are some of my absolutely favorite characters. Especially Katniss, probably because I don’t do well with people myself. The storyline is fantastic and like I’ve said before the moral of the story is good and important.
I really can’t write a review well enough to do this book justice.
I think this book wonderful. It is entertaining, I like all the characters. I recommend this book and the rest of the series.
One of the best books I’ve ever read.
great story
i did not finish this book
I couldn’t put this book down, keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Really struggled to get into this book. The main character didn’t really do it for me – Catniss is cruel and cold and calculating. And to be honest, saving her snivelling little sister didn’t really strike me as a reason to risk her life in the Games. Won’t be reading anymore of this series.
The entire series is quite excellent.
I think this is awsome it is a really good book
I love the hunger games i recommend because I is so wonderful to read and I hope that you read this book so we both can enjoy it
wow, just wow.
