In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death … it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I loved these books, but the way the series ended kind of destroyed the fun of it. I just haven’t been able to pick them up again because I hated the ending so much
Read the book before you see the movies
Absolutely terrific! Great story, great characters.
I think this book can be for ages 10 through any age. I still think that it is just like the movie.
This book is better than the movies depict. It really makes you think about things even outside of fiction. It keeps you hooked from first page to end.
Wonderful concept and wonderfully executed.
Liked this series of an alternate world.
Loved the series
I put off reading this book, then couldn’t get enough of it. Great characters, great story.
Great book, should have stopped with this one.
One of my all-time favorites!!!!
horrifying look at the what could be
Really exciting, tense, and a good premise here. Chilling. A bit too much gore and many violent images for my squeamish little self, but the characters were wonderful, and it was easy to get engrossed in Katniss’ story. I enjoyed seeing how she triumphed in the end. And Peeta is he’s my fave because he’s so kind and self-sacrificing.
This is actually my third time reading this book. I wanted a refresher before the movie of Catching Fire comes out. This book grabbed me from page one and had me on the edge of my seat all three times I’ve read it. The story is compelling, tragic, heroic, horrifying, and yes a bit romantic all rolled into one. Katniss, even in her clueless …
The Hunger Games is a remarkable book. It is action packed and has the reader cheering for the main character early on. I highly recommend this book.
This series needs 10 stars. Probably one of my most favorite series ever. I’d stay up late reading because I needed to know what happened next.
Thrilling and enigmatic
