In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death … it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

this books keeps you on a edge at all times. It keeps you captivated with every turn
So much better than the movies!
The first of a series that has been made into movies. A good dystopian novel.
Loved this book from start to finish. I got to the 3rd chapter and I immediately bought the follow up books and read them in one go. Worth all the praise it got.
It was a good read! When it came out it was something new and different!!
couldn’t put it down. my friends didn’t want to read it until I convinced them and then they loved it.
I think this is one of the more successful post-apocalyptic books I’ve read. I’m not a big fan of present tense, but the author actually does a decent job. It took me a few pages to get into it, and I was only jarred out of the moment once or twice because of it. That’s actually a compliment, because normally I can’t get through more than 1-2 …
Another good series! Again when I finished this book I had to start the second in the series immediately!! Very fun read!
The Hunger Games has been our for a while now, but if you haven’t read it you should. As always, I recommend reading the book before seeing the movie, but if it’s too late for that and you enjoyed the movie, go ahead and read the book anyway to get more character development and better backstory.
The first time I read this, the only thought in my mind was “this is terrible.” How could any society ever do that to children? That’s the beautiful thing when it comes to writing, the author can do whatever they want. Suzanne Collins made a believable authoritarian world where those in power would do anything to keep it, even turning children …
I loved this book, together it took me two days to pick it up and finish! The book has a lot more detail than the movie ever did. Personally, I pick the book way over the movie!
One of my favorites
Read it as a book fair scholastics book and it completely surprised me with the action and inspiration!
AMAZING read!!! I’ve read this at least five times already. I recommend this book to everyone
