In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death … it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Still, if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Can you image what the future could hold? The Hunger Games lets you imagen one of our futures where the rich get richer and everyone else must survive to live. Very gripping story you can’t put down until the ending.
Fantastic book and series!
‘Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in you favor’
A 16-year old girl named Katniss Everdeen lives with her little sister and mother in a place called District 12. Since her family was poor Katniss had to hunt out in the wild with her bow and arrow to supplement their meager supplies. District 12, far away from the capitol city, Panem, which Katniss never thought she would see. To keep the districts in check, The Capitol forced each of them to send one boy and girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games. A fight to the death which was broadcasted live on tv. Katniss becomes a contender when she volunteers and steps in for her younger sister. Out of the 24 people, only one will survive. Both Katniss and Peeta, the other contestant from district 12, express their desire to stop being a piece in The Capitol’s games, when they start a revolution against The Capitol.
Like so many great books, there is a love triangle in the middle of everything. Katniss goes into the arena with Peeta, while back home awaits Gale, her best friend who’d love to be more than that. It’s the same love triangle you can see in other popular books, Harry Potter (Harry, Hermione, Ron) and Twilight (Bella, Jacob, Edward).
Author, Suzanne Collins notes that the book’s plot was influenced by the Greek myth of Theseus, in which King Minos requires 7 boys and 7 girls from Athens to battle the Minotaur in a labyrinth. The message was clear: “Mess with us and we’ll do something worse than kill you. We’ll kill your children.” But the idea finally came to her while she was channel surfing between reality tv and war coverage.
I loved the book, the first few chapters were quite boring, but when the game started, everything was in place. Feels like you yourself are in the arena. It was a good and easy read. I think the book is suitable for readers 12 and up. I read the book twice now which is quite unusual for me, but the second time I wanted to analyze what makes a book were children have to kill each other so gripping. The character development, the world building around a future earth and a book written in first person, present tense that was actually wonderful to read. I would recommend the book to everyone.
Amazing Book! After being in quarantine for weeks, I was looking for books to read and came across The Hunger Games series. At first I didn’t know if I would enjoy them but after the first chapter it was impossible to put down!
Can’t go wrong
I just want to say that this book is amaze-balls
this inspired my year old book (dystopian) addiction
Love!
I think this will always be my favorite Dystopian series. The characters are unforgettable, the plot wrenching and the love consuming.
The plotting on this book is amazing. Every tiny, seemingly insignificant detail is important.
This is one of my favorite trilogies of all time. I love her writing and her world-building. You know it’s a good set when you can read it more than once!
What an amazing book! Would definitely recommend it. You fall in love with the characters and feel emotional connection to them.
