A very different book.
Interesting way of weaving characters. Quick read.
I really liked this historical fiction bookl The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the story was not over at the end of the book. That was very disappointing. I really don’t like it when authors expect you to buy the next book to find out the rest of the story.
This is the story of an innocent young girl who gets used by an older young man and finds herself pregnant. She is horrified and refuses to tell anyone who the father of her unborn child is. Her step-father, a very unlikable man, goes to great lengths to solve this “problem”.
I really enjoyed this book, at first I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but was soon hooked. Hope her next one shows up on book bib soon.
the range of characters was so full and they were beautifully developed. could have been written for the mid-20th century for much of the social mentality shown.
excellent research and outstanding writing took me inside the book. where I learned and lived the era. the characters were easy for me to love and understand, with surprises on every page. While I want o read the entire series, I loved that this book answered all questions with a satisfying ending, and at the same time piqued intense interest in the next adventure.
I enjoyed this story and the strength of the main character. I was expecting it to continue and look forward to reading the sequel.
I loved this book!!!! I had a hard time putting it down. It was great all the way through!!!!!!
Post civil war mid west life was really interesting. The story kept my interest. Loved the characters
Hard to put down. Good read!
Unique story that captured my attention. Enjoyed the fast paced writing.
Really good character development
Enjoyed a lot! Can’t wait to read the next ‘
Very enjoyable read. Disappointed at end to realize I have to read another book to find out what happens next. Probably means that’s godvwriting
It was engaging to the point that you want to find out what happens to the heroine. But it was unrealistic given the era. Then I didn’t know it was a series! I would not waste my time on anymore as it was so poorly written.
This is a well crafted book. I can hardly wait to read the next book. What happens next? So absorbing, couldn’t put it away.
Didn’t care for it. Rather old fashioned and too romantic for my taste.
Normally I don’t like protagonists whose problems stem from their own actions. This got my interest because my great-grandfather was a superintendent of a poor farm after he retired from farming his own land. He did not like “Poor Farm” as a title for that kind of institution. Demeaning to the residents and the quality of their efforts.
I didn’t want to stop reading. Now I want to read the sequel to it.
Great summer read. Loved the story
