This book was not like I expected. It is part of a trilogy, and you have to read all three books to get to the end. I prefer stand alone books
Left me wanting to read the sequel
I do not like books that do not stand alone, but require reading the next book. This really left me hanging, which is frustrating.
Really good story and characters you care about.
good character development.
I have just finished this book….could not put it down. I would like to read the next one but have to wait for a deal. I live on a fixed income so I try to get the books I read for free or less than two dollars.
I liked this book and thought it well written. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five, is I personally hate books that don’t actually end but try to entice you to the next book. To me that is gimmicky and not necessary, but again that is a personal preference. Well done…
Although I believe the best future a single mother can give her child is to let someone adopt her/him, I was deeply involved in this mother’s fight for her child and her sanity.
Fantastic book
The characters were believable and I was easily drawn into the book and didn’t want to climb out.
loved this book. for a change, the heroine has the upper hand. enjoyed reading it.
I need to read to second book for the “rest of the story”.
Well written with historical information. The story revolves around an unwed, wealthy, strong willed 17 year old woman. Needless to say family and society shunned her. Her step father sent her to a Farm for the poor for confinement. This was an interesting part of the 1st book as homes such as this truly existed at that time in history. The book shows her struggles and how she overcame some of the obstacles. I won’t give the story away, but well worth a read. I am now on book two.
Historical fiction which I enjoy reading. i REALLY liked this book in general; enjoyed the characters, the good, the bad, the VERY bad, scenarios, dialog, everything except the ending! It left you to decide for yourself after the author led the reader to tie up a few loose ends.
I did like her way of writing, and will look for other books she has authored.
A look back in history to see how things were handled compared to today.
I couldn’t stop reading until I’d read all three in the series. Interesting window into an unmarried woman’s life in the 1870s. And also how thecdifferently-abled were isolated or ignored. Also mysteries to unravel.
Interesting and an easy read. Good lazy day read. The negative is that it leaves you hanging. Need to get the next book to see the outcome and I believe there are three in the series. I personally don’t care for that.
This was an excellent read, definitely a page turner with an unexpected end. I will read the rest of the series
Story of an unwed mother early in the 19th century and the tribulations she went through. Involves wonderful caring depiction of 2 generations of mothers and a disabled adult interwoven with historical events.
Was a joy to read . Told how it was back in those times
