I could not put this book down – read well into the night. Will definitely read more by this author.
A good read.
This is a new author for me and I loved the book. Very original with interesting historical information. Easy to read with very interesting characters.
A little slow and confusing at first but then it turned into a great mystery I enjoyed it
Really liked this book. Great characters and interesting story line.
Well written with good character development.
Good story. Somewhat predictable but characters were developed well.
Enjoyed enough to read the series
Best book I have ever read and I finished this book in one day because I could not put it done. But disappointed because know I have tiger another book to continue with it. It is okay because it is worth it.
it was good
Some real surprises and very sharp characters in this book. A very entertaining page turner that left a pang for more …looking forward to the next in the series.
While it was somewhat predictable, I really enjoyed this book. The characters were believable and I felt I wanted to continue reading it when it was finished.
How things have changed from the early 1900’s!! Hooray!
If you like historical mysteries, you will really like this book – it captures the “Great Fire” in Chicago as a key plotline, as well as everyday living references from post-Civil War throughout. Great character development with a wide variety of personalities – villainous, nurturing, intelligent… Overall, many ups and downs, with a strong, likeable heroine and backup characters. One point to note – this book resolves a lot at the end, but the main storyline continues into a second book, so if you are looking for everything tied with a bow at the end, it doesn’t happen. Looking forward to reading the next one. 🙂
I love this book. Especially the main character. She kept her head on her shoulders throughout this difficult time. She grew up real fast. She was very witty. She made wise decisions and found solutions to her problems. I highly recommend it.
I really liked the book. Would lie to read next book.
I liked the way the author wrote the book but not too much excitement, predictable. Still I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
This book was so good, I ended up purchasing the entire series and reading it in like 5 days
