“Brilliant, shocking and very creepy. Mark Edwards has done it again.”—Elly Griffiths, bestselling author of the Dr Ruth Galloway series

A chilling, thrilling winner—I have no nails left! A masterclass in suspense writing.
I love all of Mark Edwards’s books but this one, I think, is the best so far!
Liked it-but not all of it
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it got off to a great start, a pleasant surprise.
From England, Adam and Ruth had been in New York a few weeks. Their friends Jack and Mona are on a retreat in New Mexico. They’re staying at their house, looking after it.
This was really keeping me guessing-what could have happened? Very mysterious. Some cracking moments.
Unfortunately, it went a bit downhill for me in the second half of the book. It was a good book, but then it went off a bit, and my interest waned. We all like different things, and the second part of the book just wasn’t to my taste.
Mark Edwards has a knack for writing non-formulaic, unpredictable books with interesting characters. This is another excellent creation by Edwards. You don’t know what’s going to happen next in this thriller, and twists and turns abound. I highly recommend this great read.
Hm, not sure how I really feel about this story.
It was well written and intriguing and kept me interested at all times.
Now, the plot wasn’t so authentic as I was expecting as many others have written it but there are nuances that makes a difference to a great few hours of reading. I do feel though that there could’ve been more moments to it, more scenes where we get inside Gabriel’s life and not just broken pieces.
Overall it’s a good book and I did enjoyed it and will definitely read more by the author.
Eden has just shown up at the front door of the home in which Ruth and Adam are housesitting for Mona and Jack. Claiming to know the owners, Eden is disappointed they aren’t there to offer her a place to stay. Since it’s raining very hard, they invite Eden to have some wine with them as they wait for the rain to stop. As they all discuss how they know the owners, they realize the rain has stopped and Eden needs a place to stay. So they offer her the spare bedroom.
Ruth and Adam are in New York because Ruth is acting in a play. Adam is a writer and hopes that Ruth doesn’t become so successful that he will lose her.
As they spend time together, they enjoy one another’s company. One night, Eden goes for takeout and brings back some tequila too. Knowing that it is an alcohol that doesn’t agree with him, Adam goes along with the girls and starts drinking way too much. When he awakens, he is ill and both Ruth and Eden have gone missing. Where are they?
OK. Enough with the teasers. This is a story that you might not expect, but it’s compellingly written with lots of angst and action. I can honestly say that I learned a lot from it as well. Enjoy!

Mark Edwards’ writing really pulls me in fast. I think he writes well, not putting a lot of filler,b which I find I don’t need in a book. This book was about Adam and Ruth, a British couple house sitting in New York. It’s a great opportunity for Ruth, who is an aspiring actress and has landed a Broadway role. Ruth and Adam had met Jack and Mona, the home owners, on a cruise and got along to the point where they were asked to watch Jack and Mona’s home while they were away on a retreat.
One night, a woman named Eden arrives on Jack and Mona’s doorstep looking for them. She says she is looking for Jack and Mona, adding that Jack and Mona had told her if she ever came to town, that she should stop by. Adam explains that both Jack and Mona are on a retreat, but feeling bad for her, he and Ruth invite her in. But, just a few days later, both Eden and Ruth are gone.
I don’t like to give a lot of synopsis because you can read that anywhere. I thought this book had a great premise and I couldn’t wait to find out was going on. However, by the time it was all wrapped up, I found it a little far fetched. I know what happens in the book (not giving it away) does happen in real life, but I guess I was just expecting something different. But, I did finish it really quickly and it kept me entertained. It was fast paced and written in a way that it kept me engaged..
However, that being said, I think this will do well. It releases on June 3, 2020 and I wish Mr. Edwards the best of luck with it. Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher.
