Sherlock Holmes’s most famous case: An irresistible blend of Gothic horror and intricately plotted mystery The curse of the Baskervilles dates to the seventeenth century, when the wicked Hugo Baskerville chased a farmer’s daughter across the pitch-dark moor of Grimpen with vile intentions. The poor girl died of fright, but Baskerville’s fate was worse–a giant black hound, eyes afire and jaws … afire and jaws dripping with blood, tore out his throat and devoured it on the spot. Since then, the specter of that terrible beast has haunted Baskerville Hall, many of whose inhabitants have met violent, mysterious, and tragic ends.
News of the latest death is brought to 221B Baker Street by a local doctor who hopes that Sherlock Holmes can solve the riddle of the curse before it claims yet another victim or leaves the hall forever empty. Sir Charles Baskerville perished alone on the edge of the moor, his face twisted in fright, the footprints of a gigantic hound marking the ground twenty yards from where his body was discovered. Has the mythical monster returned? Or does some other villain now inhabit the desolate moorlands? Holmes and Watson will be pushed to the very edge of reason as they seek to discover just who–or what–wants to see the Baskervilles destroyed.

One of my all-time favorites.
I’ve read all the Sherlock Holmes stories a number of times and still find them exciting enough to enjoy. As this, the the other books were written more than one hundred years ago it amazes me me that the stories stand the test of time so well.
Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle … What can I say, but read it … the best!
I read it so many years ago that I can’t remember much of the content. Remember that I have liked all of Conan Doyle’s books which I began reading when I was about 12 and I am now 90.
Classic Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock Holmes. It’s a great read!
You can’t go wrong with Sherlock Holmes, sir Arthur never disappointeds.
I read it so many years ago that I cannot remember anything except that I liked it.
I think this may be the best mystery ever written, and it transfers wonderfully to movies and television. If you care at all about mysteries – this is a must read…..I make a point to see every version that is presented on TV or in the movies and I have read the story several times.

Dr. Watson on his own on the moors
My favorite kind of book.
Probably the greatest of all Sherlock Holmes stories. If you think you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes and you haven’t read this at least five times, think again.
Holmes and Watson may not be the original crime solvers, but they have set the standard for all detectives into the foreseeable future. Wonderful glimpse into the time period and beginning of forensic crime solving.
Read this as a teen, just re read it. Still a very good mystery, still a marvelous story, and Sherlock Holmes Is The Dective to compare all dectives too.
A classic mystery
Just wonderful, if you like mysteries. You will become a lifelong Holmes fan :D.
