Sherlock Holmes’s most famous case: An irresistible blend of Gothic horror and intricately plotted mystery The curse of the Baskervilles dates to the seventeenth century, when the wicked Hugo Baskerville chased a farmer’s daughter across the pitch-dark moor of Grimpen with vile intentions. The poor girl died of fright, but Baskerville’s fate was worse–a giant black hound, eyes afire and jaws … afire and jaws dripping with blood, tore out his throat and devoured it on the spot. Since then, the specter of that terrible beast has haunted Baskerville Hall, many of whose inhabitants have met violent, mysterious, and tragic ends.
News of the latest death is brought to 221B Baker Street by a local doctor who hopes that Sherlock Holmes can solve the riddle of the curse before it claims yet another victim or leaves the hall forever empty. Sir Charles Baskerville perished alone on the edge of the moor, his face twisted in fright, the footprints of a gigantic hound marking the ground twenty yards from where his body was discovered. Has the mythical monster returned? Or does some other villain now inhabit the desolate moorlands? Holmes and Watson will be pushed to the very edge of reason as they seek to discover just who–or what–wants to see the Baskervilles destroyed.

Classic Sherlock
You can’t beat Conan Doyle!
Extremely sad, but amazing classic novel.
This is one of the most well-known Sherlock Holmes stories, and it deserves its place in the hearts of fans and newcomers alike. The Hound of the Baskervilles is the epitome of Doyle’s storytelling. Adding in a supposed supernatural element with Holmes’ usual logical deductions makes this one of the best of the detective’s mysteries. With more detail than in his short stories, The Hound of the Baskervilles allows its readers to delve even deeper into the world of the late nineteenth century that we love.
After the mysterious death of Charles Baskerville, one of his neighbors, Dr. Mortimer, comes to consult the great detective with an old tale of a spectral hellhound that supposedly haunts the family. With one of the last descendants of the Baskervilles coming from Canada to take over the estate, Dr. Mortimer is afraid that he is indirectly sentencing the poor unsuspecting man to death by hound.
With Holmes busy in London, Dr. Watson is sent with the new Baskerville, Henry, with strict instructions to stay with him and get to know the neighbors. What follows is one of the greatest mysteries of all time. With twists and turns that would baffle most people, Holmes assembles the pieces with his great deductive reasoning. But can the world’s greatest detective face off with a spectral hound with a hatred for the Baskervilles?
If you enjoy Sherlock Holmes, you will love this book. If you’re new to Sherlock Holmes, this is a great book to start with. Full of intrigue and secrets, this book is a great addition to the Sherlock Holmes canon. Definitely pick up this book for a thrilling mystery.
Come on…one of the best of the best. Doesn’t need a rating from a knot head like me.

Not one of his better books. Do read the others.
This was required reading lo so many years ago – perhaps I should reread it for content instead of having to read it for a grade.
I like to read classics now and then.
