First we were friends. Then we were roommates. Now I want more…
What can I say about Chess Copper? The woman is capable of bringing me to my knees. I know this about five minutes after getting naked for her.No one is more surprised than me. The prickly photographer my team hired to shoot our annual charity calendar isn’t my usual type. She’s defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. … defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when I’m with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.
I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.
Trick is… Now that I’ve made her believe I’m a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?

Finn and Chess are my favorite couple ever!! I loved this 4th installment in the Game On Series and I can’t wait for the next one.
Please, universe muses of the writers, help Kristen in her inspiration to bring that one soon and bring us Rolondo book also. Please, please, please!!!
Omg it was so good ,i loved it !
I really liked Finn ,he’s a great guy and i loved the witty banter between him and Chess ,they get off on the wrong foot but then fate brings them together and they totally fall head over ass for each other and its awesome ,i loved their story !
I loved Chess ,she is a cool character ,she’s looking from some to have a serous relationship with and she never expected for that someone to be Finn ,who has never been serous about anyone before , they both had a lot to learn and its awesome that they had so many firsts with each other 🙂
This book was on fire ! (fanning self just thinking about it) the steamy scenes were stellar and i loved seeing past characters 🙂 i love this series and i can’t wait for book 5 which i had in my hands right now !
What can I say other than I LOVED this book. It was a fantastic, sexy read. Hard to put down, but then again I’ve enjoyed every single book in this series. Looking forward to more.
Beautiful slow-burn romance hits all the right notes!
Chess is one tough cookie, but underneath all her bravado is a girl who’s lost too much. Finn is the easy-going golden boy with the world at his feet who doesn’t even know what he’s missing until he experiences the peace that Chess brings to his life.
I loved how the snarky humor was used throughout this story to develop their growing relationship. The Thanksmas meet-the-parents scene was filled with side-splitting hilarity that also played a pivotal role in demonstrating their willingness to take the necessary risks with their hearts. Still, there’s plenty of heartbreak in this epic romance as the author cuts through all the noise to address the insecurities and doubts of all couples.
This was a terrific romance, one that I highly recommend.
Awesome one day read! I couldn’t put this book down and I can’t wait to read more by this author. So happy Apollycon is opening up so many new authors to me including the talented Kristen Callihan.
Chess Copper is photographing players from her local pro football team naked for their annual charity calendar. Tough job but someone’s got to do it! When she meets Finn, the QB for the team there is instant chemistry, but a miscommunication gets their relationship off on the wrong foot. As she tries to make him more comfortable with the shoot, she see’s that he’s actually just a bit nervous and through their conversation realizes that behind that pretty face is a really nice guy that she might want to get to know better. There’s one problem. Chess is looking for a relationship and Finn is a no strings attached kind of guy…at first.
I loved the slow build up of Chess and Finn’s friendship. I am a firm believer in being friends before becoming lovers and Kristen Callihan hit that trigger for me. Finn is a self described one night stand man and even though Chess finds him attractive she determinedly put him in the hands off category and Finn has his work cut out for him to make her see him in another light. When tragedy hits and Chess needs a place to stay their close quarters help speed things along from friendship into love. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve read one of the Game On books, but when a couple of characters showed up in this novel I could easily remember their story. It helped a bit that this novel’s timeline paralleled Dex and Fiona’s from the Game Plan. It was kind of fun to listen to Dex talk about his budding relationship when we already knew how that relationship turned out. If you are a fan of this series you will like The Hot Shot. Was it my favorite? No, I still like The Game Plan the best. However, I liked Finn and Chess together and really rooted for them to find their happily ever after and was happy when they did.
The Game On series keeps rolling and keeps me entertained. Drew and Dex have fierce competition now that I’ve been introduced to Finn Mannus. He stole the show and was the icing on the cake. Wow! Kristen Callihan knows how to write a man and make him vulnerable, sympathetic and damn near perfect. I was swooning throughout this entire story.
Finn and Chess’ first meeting at her photo shoot was fabulous and set the tone and their chemistry from the get go. I felt it, all the way to my toes. They were combustible together. The whole friends to lovers was done at a wonderful pace, that made me fall even more in love with them as they did with each other too. The Hot Shot had everything I loved. Humor, romance and great sex thanks to an undeniable chemistry.
I would have loved more background story on Chess and the drama near the end was unnecessary but it’s not something that ruined the story for me. This was so strong in feels that I went along for the ride. Finn Mannus was delicious and made my panties melt. This series can do no wrong. Another home run!

Nothing more enjoyable than reading about two equally strong characters pitted against each other in the romance stakes.
And when the hero is a big, sexy, alpha, footballer…score!
Kristen Callihan usually hits it out of the park with her books and The Hot Shot is no exception! Finn and Chess have excellent chemistry and their relationship progresses from friends to roommates to much, much more. Once they hit the roommate stage, it is clear that Finn wants more from their relationship but he respects Chess and her hesitation. Both have personal issues from their past to overcome and with the support of each other, they work towards a future together. This book runs parallel to The Game Plan and does have some plot spoilers from that book. However, it could just as easily be read as a standalone. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Kristen Callihan’s next book!
“Oh, fuck, Chester Copper, I’m so gone on you. There’s no coming back from it.” I kiss those candy lips. “Haven’t you figured it out?” I say against them. “Every time I call you Chester, I’m saying I adore you. I fucking adore every part of you.”
Okay, so before we begin, let me just point out that I’m SO IN LOVE with Finn
This story begins in a somewhat typical sports romance way, what with the athlete being super comfortable with himself, even a little cocky; the female, though, seems very sure of herself and is able to hold herself at a distance while trying to do her job. Obviously this quickly crumbles down and the two of them … become friends. Yep, you read that correctly–they become friends. Now, is there an underlying attraction, but each of them provides a support they had been missing, so they don’t want to mess that up with meaningless sex.
Both of these characters really took up residence in my heart. Finn is one of the most subtly caring men I can remember reading. Often we have our alphas who don’t say much, but do a lot, and Finn could fit into that category, but there was just something … more to him. So much of himself was given with every small gesture to Chess, and I was falling in love with him right from the start.
Chess was an interesting character as well. She had multiple layers that made it fun to get to know her. She was spunky & independent, but also vulnerable and nervous. Her upbringing so greatly affected her adult life that she failed to see all the beauty that Finn could give her. She kept him at arm’s length, even as friends, in order to keep herself safe. This isn’t to say there weren’t moments of annoyance, there totally was, but she was overall a likable character.
This story was one of my favorites to read, as of late. I’ve been in a bit of a funk, but I’m so grateful that there are so many of my favorite authors releasing stories that slowly bring me out.
