Scotland 1556 After overhearing a plot to kill Mary Queen of Scots, Abby Gordon is sent from Paris to the Laird of Glenorchy’s home at Kilchurn Castle for safety. Disguised as a boy, she becomes a lute player among the household musicians where she encounters the laird’s hostage, the attractive Iain MacGregor, a pawn in the laird’s struggle for power in Scotland’s turbulent politics. But is Iain … is Iain really a hostage to fortune or is he playing his own dangerous game? As Abby’s feelings intensify for this Glenorchy hostage she is caught in the web of intrigue that permeates the household and is drawn deeper and deeper into danger.
With spice, wit and action packed plotting, Kristin Gleeson’s Highland Ballad Series is as compelling as Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels.

I didn’t see that it was multiple book story. I hate that you are left hanging. It was a good story line, and I am not going to buy the rest. I will live with never knowing…
Did not like not having an ending. Just a promotion to buy the next book. I will not ever buy another of this authors books. A book should at least have an ending to it. The author can still continue the story by starting the new book from the ending and going forward. Just a money grabber author in my feelings.
Loved it
Takes place in Scotland during the time of Queen Mary I. It’s fun to read and fast-moving.
I submitted my opinion of this book.some weeks ago.
I really enjoyed the storyline. Great characters with fun personalities!

Abrupt ending. No flow
I really enjoyed this book series, but the ending from one book to the next was frustrating. I don’t appreciate HAVING to read the next book in a series because the first left me hanging. I think there can be a reasonable conclusion in addition to enough unresolved to lead one to want to read the next book. Enjoyable characters and colorful adventure.
; I wish I could say it was “Happily ever after”, but the book ended in what I’d call the middle! I assume that’s so we’d buy the next one, but doubt I will; I felt a little cheated… I liked what I saw, though.
This book was so good, I can’t wait for the next one. It is very well written and quite engrossing. I loved it!
Did NOT like that the book wasn’t finished. It forces me to buy the next in the series to see what happens.
When a book DOES NOT end, my hackles are raised and then I refuse to purchase more from the Author.
A cliffhanger which I don’t like. The book was poorly written loaded with grammatical errors.
It really didn’t develop characters before pushing me to the next book…. wasn’t that interesting.
Took a shot at reading this a couple of different times. Moved along in it ok but couldn’t keep track of all the characters, lords, dukes, etc. Gave up about 40% through.
Really great series. If you like historical fiction mixed in with historical background these books are for you. Loved it!
Set me up for the next book, Have to go buy the next one in the series now.
A good escape book. Light reading.
Great book but the ending left me wanting more than the explanation of what was to be.
Plot had holes and lacked follow through
