The Hope (The Rebekah Series Book 3), my ninth read from Christian author Jenifer Jennings and the third book in her new Rebekah Series. A well-written fictionalized expansion of the Biblical story of Rebekah & Isaac told from her perspective. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author and look forward to the next book in this series! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
The Hope
Jennifer Jennings
This is the second story of Rebecca.
She traveled to be with Isaac as his wife. For many years after they were married she wanted a child. Isaac prays for his wife and God provides. Not only did he give her a baby but two in the same time. Twin boy’s who fought as the grew in her womb. Months before she was to deliver she was racked with pain, she seeks someone to help her talk to God.
The message she received was that both brothers would be born of different nations, one who was younger would rule over the older one. The younger brother when born had his hand around the ankle of his brother when he was born. They grew up fighting and from there one threatened to kill the younger brother.
Rebecca sends her grown son for his bride. Only he is tricked into wedding the other sister who is also a twin. He works for the bride for seven years only to be tricked. When he learns he was treaded unjust he demands to wed the proper woman. He keeps both brides and somehow ends up with four wives in total. Works for the man for about twenty years when God tells him to leave.
Fabulous story. In the bible the story isn’t long or talks about the suffering and love but Jennifer has a way to put things together that seem as they fit. No it’s not from the bible, but built from it taking pieces such as places and quotes. Thus making it work beautifully.
I truly enjoyed reading this book, I devoured the whole story from start to finish in just a few hours.
My disclaimer…
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
Any book or novels I leave reviews on are not dependent on the book/novel review author’s opinion. No one influenced my voluntary review for any of the books or novels I read, they are my own opinions.
I very much enjoyed reading The Hope. Ms. Jennings truly brings the story of Jacob and Esau to life. Reading the struggles that Rebekah faced as she was waiting for her boys to be born, watching her sons grow and the difficulties that they faced in their relationships with each other and their parents was just fascinating. Ms. Jennings effectively captures the intensity of the family dynamics and creates a spell-binding story that sheds light on the Biblical reading. She helps the reader to visualize the events as the true account that it is.
As always with Ms. Jennings’ writing, I enjoyed the book both for it’s content and story-telling, but also for the Biblical truths and spiritual insights. One of my favorite passages in this book was of Jacob wrestling with the angel. This account has always intrigued me. I know that as a human, as strong as he must have been physically, Jacob could have been easily overpowered in this struggle. However, through reading this book, I’ve come to realize that this was not a test of power but one of will – it is indicative of our willingness to submit to God and the blessings that He gives us as a result.
If you enjoy Biblical fiction, I highly recommend this entire series!
