Is there an equation for the perfect hookup? Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than one plus one. . . . Sophie: Numbers are my comfort zone, which explains why my sex life is a big fat zero. Then again, if I’m smart enough to earn a PhD, why can’t I calculate a way to get a guy into bed, just to see what all the fuss is about? With my prima donna sister, Bella, getting married in Maine, I … Bella, getting married in Maine, I figure her wedding is the perfect opportunity for my little experiment. And Cain Jordan seems hot enough—he’s certainly drunk enough—to show me what I’ve been missing. Judging by the body of evidence, it’s a lot. . . .
Cain: Being stuck in the same town as my lying SOB twin brother, Christian—who may or may not be the father of the son I’m not allowed to see—is a hell of a reason to drink myself silly after the lobster boat docks each day. Any port in a storm . . . But Sophie’s different. She doesn’t play around. And she’s becoming a habit I don’t want to break. Because the smartest woman I’ve ever met is also the sexiest—and the only one who makes me want to change.
Don’t miss Bella and Christian’s story in The Breakup!

Sophie is absolutely adorable and I found fascinating with all her quirks and no-filter ways. She is a graduate student at Harvard working towards her PhD in math and she is in small town Maine with her sister who is getting married but her goal while there is to lose her virginity. Should be easy since no one knows her and a hookup can be a one and done. Bella dresses her up (not knowing Sophie’s plan) and off they go to the bar and upon walking in Sophie sees Cain sitting at the bar. He doesn’t notice her but does Bella and talks her up but Bella introduces him to Sophie. This starts it all. Cain is soon captivated by Sophie when Bella is moved out of the way and he was hooked. Cain has been drowning his problems in alcohol and he is an alcoholic. He is a functioning one as he still maintains his job on the lobster boat every day but still holds down the bar stool every night. These two accept each other for who they are, flaw and quirks and all, and they get each other. What starts as a hookup to lose her virginity turns into so much more until there is no denying what is going on until it all goes off the rails.
This book was just “eh” for a long time for me until it finally redeemed itself at the end and now I am looking forward to the next book to find out what happens with Christian and Bella.
I loved this book so much because the characters thoughts and feelings read true to the story. Cain’s pain and misery was so heartbreaking to read. He is such a self-destructive character that sees alcohol and sex as a solution to all of his personal problems. Sophie is an adorable brainiac that does not know her own worth. She is a great counterbalance to Cain’s suffering with her quirky, non judgemental personality.
On a lighter note, I loved reading any scene where Cain and Sophie were alone together because the conversations between them were, at times, sweet and funny to read.
Erin McCarthy, an New York Times bestselling author, gives us the The Hookup, book one in the Jordan Brothers series. YES, there will be more Jordan men, insert happy dance.
I just love the fact that both these characters are flawed in the most realistic way. Sophia with her safe zone and her OCD qualities. Cain drinking himself away. This is so well written that you are “hooked” from the beginning. The story just keeps flowing right on smoothly till it is over. Two different personailities that seem to have instant chemistry that becomes explosive.
Sophia is all about the numbers, there is a solution to everything, but she spends so much time working towards her PhD, that she forgets about having a love life. Up in Maine for her sisters wedding, she decided to do a little experiment and walking into the bar that first night..Cain seems to be the perfect man for the job.
Cain is stuck in life. His twin brother, Christain is not who everyone thinks he is. Not knowing if the son that Christian is raising is his or not. So drinking at the bar has become his life. One night in walks a tourist and there is no playing around with her, she is different and possibly the one who makes him want to change.
One thing I would like to point out as an example of how well written this book is, is that Sophia has accepted herself. She knows her quirks and how they might upset people but she is still doing her own thing, at times it may be hard but she keeps going. That is a life lesson for everyone.

What happens when a one night hook-up turns into something more??
The Hook-Up was an enjoyable read. It also answers that question for the reader.
I haven’t read many books by Erin McCarthy, but the ones I have read have been entertaining and ones I would recommend. I saw this book/series and read the blurb and knew it was a book I wanted to read.
The Hook-Up is the first book in Erin’s Jordan Brothers Series. It’s an opposites attract romance that is told in Dual POV. I found the characters entertaining and relatable. Cain is your typical bad boy who has some serious issues. Sophie on the other hand was my favorite in this story. She was quirky and straight forward. She said what she meant and without a filter. What made me fall for Cain was how accepting of her quirks and differences. He saw her for who she is and not how different she was. It will make more sense once you read this book.
Now even though this story does revolve around sex and what is supposed to be a one night stand. It was so much more than that. The author touches on the serious subject of alcoholism. Also acceptance for one another. I thought she gave an accurate portrayal of what goes through an alcoholics mind. How the harder stuff is easier to deal with when alcohol is involved. She also showed how it can be a persons downfall. I loved watching both Sophie and Cain grow as this story is told. Although I will say that I thought this story dragged a little in the middle. By about the 60% mark I was wondering when something would happen to spice this up a little. But even with that I thought this was a story worth reading.
The author kind of hints to something happening between two other characters to set up the next book. I look forward to reading Christian’s book. I think he has some serious redeeming to do.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of the opposites attract story that has two flawed characters, but also leaves you smiling in the end.
I have a love/hate relationship with this book or should I say with Cain . This guy would do all the right things and then with one sweep knocked them all down. As for Sophie – I loved her straight forward mind, her smart mouth and her ability to see something more in Cain . Even though you would think that they couldn’t be more wrong for each other they somehow made it work.
This story had an interesting development and it was a fun read. I just wish Cain hadn’t made few stupid moves that I just could not get passed by.
But I’m excited about the next book – it would seem we’ll be in for a bumpy ride 🙂

The Hookup is socially awkward vs. Social pariah of his own making.
She is the mildly OCD NERD girl. He is the angry drunk. They aren’t from the same worlds or even stratosphere. But they work and they both find something more than they ever expected from a hook up.
Wow! This is my first Erin McCarthy story and I am blown away! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, but I was completely pulled into this book – I read it in one setting. Amazing! The writing was flawless and the characters beautifully flawed. Cain and Sophia were both perfectly human characters that you rooted for from the very beginning. This story has all the emotions and there is no way FIVE STARS is enough!! LOVED!! And I cannot wait for the next book!
