Teach me everything. My whole life, I’ve been a good girl. I follow rules like nobody’s business. I obey guidelines like I was born to it. Show me a line, and I’ll toe it.I’m even a twenty-two-year-old virgin. Good is my middle name. And then, I break one tiny little rule. Miniscule. Inconsequential.Next thing I know, I’m trapped with an incredibly handsome stranger. He’s got eyes like cut … handsome stranger. He’s got eyes like cut emeralds, biceps that makes my head spin, and a smile that has me rethinking all my life choices.
We escape a bar bathroom together. We go on an impromptu date. We share the hottest kiss I’ve ever had, one that leaves me panting for more. We promise to see each other again.
Turns out, we see each other the next morning.
In my calculus class.
Which he’s teaching.
My handsome, sexy date is Professor Loveless, and we’ll be seeing each other plenty. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday all semester.
There’s no choice but to call it off. We both have too much at stake: I could lose my scholarship, and he could lose his entire career.
But I can’t call off the way I feel.
I can’t call off the way he looks when he rolls up his sleeves and explains imaginary numbers.
I can’t call off the heated glances, or the way our hands touch when I hand in my homework, or the memory of his body pressing against mine that night.
I’m a virgin.
He’s my professor.
And if we give in, it could cost us both everything.
But I’m so tired of being a good girl.
The Hookup Equation is a complete standalone romantic comedy with enough steam to fog your glasses.

I absolutely loved this one! Roxie Noir definitely knows how to craft a story. It pulled me in from beginning to end and I wasn’t ready to leave. The characters are fantastic and feel real. I fell in love with them as they fell in love with each other. I love the connections that the Loveless brothers have with each other. I love seeing the previous brothers in each new book as we continue to the series. They can be read as a standalone but you do get some extra enjoyment if you have read the previous books. I absolutely adored this one. I loved the forbidden quality that is added between professor and student and how they had to handle and deal with it. I thought it was all done very well. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series and this one was another fantastic addition to it and I can’t wait for the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Talk about a forbidden or taboo romance! This had more though. I lived to continue reading for the interactions between Caleb and Thalia. Even the smallest touch or smile or conversation together and I felt my pulse racing. The way this is written had me feeling everything and the anticipation and excitement was at an all time high. They’re perfect for each other but in an imperfect way. I loved this so much!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Great story! The meet cute in the men’s bathroom is really funny and sets the humorous tone for the rest of the book. The characters are well developed and the chemistry between them is off the charts. The friends and family are wonderful supporters of the couple and they provide a lot of fun commentary.
This is a fast, entertaining and funny story about overcoming the odds to be with the one you love. I hope the girlfriends/ roommates get their own HEA!
Downloaded for free from BookSprout. I have volunteered to give my honest opinion and receive no compensation for my review. Since I rely heavily on reviews to make decisions about purchases, I will never lie or over-exaggerate my opinion. There is nothing worse than seeing a bunch of 5 star reviews and realizing the book is full of errors or just plain bad and not worth my hard earned money!
Reading about generally-identified taboo relationships is… well, also considered a taboo by some, I suppose. For me, it’s a semi-obsession, especially teacher-student type of love stories. In real life, I had a hot math teacher during my freshman year of college, who was in his 20’s at that time. Note that, most college freshmen were about 17-19yo when I was still studying. Fast forward to my senior year (we were probably about 20-21yo by this point), and I still see the hot math teacher around campus, but this time, he was walking around with his college senior girlfriend – a classmate of mine (not me, LOL!). We were students in a private university ran by Jesuits. Queue the drama? Not really. They walked around in plain sight, she graduated along with the rest of us, and, as far as I knew, he was still going to teach the next year in the same college.
In “The Hookup Equation,” the story ain’t as boring as my little anecdote. It’s the fourth book in the Loveless Brothers series, and it’s the first one of the 4 books that I’ve read It’s to Ms. Noir’s credit that I still appreciated Caleb’s story; it can stand alone on its own and his brother’s stories have no bearing on his. Caleb is, like most of us who are trying like hell to be good, responsible, financially-independent adults, trudging along his chosen career path. Job tenure as a mathematics professor at a prestigious college is in his horizon. He’s got a stable job, a great single life, and…. boom, The One comes along…. in the form, unfortunately, of his student.
Thalia has always been the good girl. She’s incredibly smart, her future’s fucking bright, and… The One comes along… too bad, he’s her professor. Aaaaaaauuuuughhhhh! I want to talk about “The Hookup Equation” even more, but I won’t ruin it for you. There’s some hot, sexy times, a HUUUUGE dilemma, and a lot of fun, with a bit drama thrown in. I really, really, REALLY liked it.
Now, I’m gonna go back and read the first 3 books in this series
Thalia is a rule breaker lol and one night out she decides to break a single tiny itty bitty rule. She desperately needed to skip the line to the ladies room because well it was one of those time that the urge to go out won the waiting game and in that thought frame what could it hurt? Men were so lucky the girl in and come out so what was one broken little rule? What could it hurt? Well nothing because well a girls gotta go and go she did!
With a dash of shame when she bumps right in the most gorgeous pair of eyes. Mr Charming himself.
Mr Charming that also happens to be her professor.
Disclaimer I received an arc copy for an honest and voluntary review
I loved this book. Reels you in from the start and never slows down. The relationship between Caleb and Thalia is believable. The age difference is small, only six years. Both try to keep a professional relationship but the heart wants what the heart wants. This story will make you smile, cry, laugh and root for Caleb and Thalia. No cliffhanger and hea. You can’t go wrong with a story by Roxie Noir.
I voluntarily received this arc in exchange for an honest opinion.
Roxie Noir grabbed my attention from the start and kept me hooked (pun intended, teehee) to the end. I found Caleb and Thalia perfect for each other. There was subtle suspense through out the story. Some of the story was very predictable, but I’m okay with it. Roxie Noir did throw a little bit of a curve ball, I should have seen it coming, but I did not till all things were revealed. I really liked Thalia she is independent, smart and goes after what she wants. I loved how she put her father in his place. I love Caleb he might be my favorite Loveless brother he is smart and quiet. All I can say is I love his brothers and know they have his back but sometimes they need to leave him be. My only complaint is The Hookup Equation did not end how I wanted, but then Thalia is very young and I did get a little of what I wanted. Maybe it I have something to look forward too. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader’s copy.
What I really like about this author is that she can take a typical trope and turn it into so much more. In Hookup Equation we get the teacher/student trope and the virgin heroine trope.
I’m pretty leery of the virgin trope because it just never seems realistic in current times, but like I said, the author just made this story so much more than that. It didn’t even feel like a big deal based off how this couple progresses in their relationship. What we get is a slow burn romance that lets us get to know these two as individuals, and as a new couple.
Having this as a student teacher trope also allowed for Caleb and Thalia to recognize and admit early on what their attraction meant and could be if they explored it. It took an explosive first encounter and forced them to slow down and evaluate. I really enjoyed seeing them work through these obstacles.
These Loveless brothers have been a fun family to get to know. They are all so different in personality but the same in the core of their values. I genuinely like them and love to see them fall in love. I’m so glad we have another brother’s story to come. I not only recommend this book, but I also recommend all the standalone books in this series. These Loveless men are delicious!
I love Caleb and Thalia’s story!! I love how they meet, when they realize the connection they have and how they deal with the situation they are in!!
The supporting characters are great! And I love how Roxie Noir creates a story!!! Loved this book!!
Holy hotness! The attraction and heat between these two is instant and it doesn’t let up not even after the last word is read! I’m still a jumbled up mess and I definitely never wanted this story to end! Caleb and Thalia are pure and utter perfection with all their flows and bad decisions! I love how they complimented one another! She loves the unknown and thrives in a bit of planned chaos where Caleb meets structure and answers yet together they blur each other’s lines but even though their connection is strong will love be enough in the end?
This family keeps getting bigger and my heart keeps overflowing with love! I love seeing their interactions and just how much the loveless family has each other’s backs!
This was a fantastic professor/student college romance!
“Life has patterns, systems, a proper order…but Thalia is a sudden bolt from the blue and I’m jumbled, disarranged.”
Thalia Lopez is still a virgin at 22, through happenstance rather than design. She’s also a scholarship student who always walks a straight line. Until one night, she broke a simple rule and ended up trapped in the men’s bathroom with a gorgeous stranger.
“The more I see you the harder it is to pretend I don’t like you…And the harder it is to pretend that I don’t want you.”
Caleb Loveless is absolutely taken with the beautiful girl and asks her out on an impromptu date, where he becomes completely captivated by her. However, before they can go out on their second date, they find out that their circumstances dictate that they have to stay away from each other. However, that’s easier said than done!
“I want her beyond all reason and sanity.”
I adored this romance! Thalia and Caleb were such great characters and intrinsically good people. They had so much to lose but they were absolutely made for each other. Their chemistry was so sexy and sweet, and undeniable! I loved their funny, quirky conversations, as well as their tense, hungry encounters. Their sexy times together were HOT! Caleb’s pretty commanding but also tender.
Thalia could be adorably awkward with a propensity to babble on about random things that totally charmed him. I loved Caleb! He wasn’t looking for someone to love and just happened to stumble upon Thalia. They were inexorably drawn to each other. I loved his care of her and how much he wanted to be her person in her times of need.
Really, thoroughly enjoyed this story by a new-to-me author and will definitely go back in this series and read the previous books.
I heard so much about Caleb in the other Loveless Brothers books and have been impatiently waiting to read his love story and I was not disappointed. Sometimes when you meet “the” one there is nothing that “should” get in your way. For Caleb and Thalia it seems that their story had one obstacle after another that “should” have kept them apart. I must admit that I am not usually a fan of a student/professor romance storyline but since I have known since Book 1 that Caleb was in academia so it made sense to think that his “person” would probably be one of his students. What Roxie Noir did with this story was change my mind about this genre (as long as everyone writes them like her). There are some snippets of the next Loveless Brother’s story where we find out what Seth has been doing and I would love to see spinoffs where Thalia’s two brothers have roles in the next book or even get stories of their own. Great book and if you have not read the other books, please do yourself a big favor and read them!
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
Overall Grade:
Okay, I have to be honest. Since I’m a professor of English (albeit an adjunct one), I go into professor/student romances trepidatiously BECAUSE I could never see myself becoming involved with one of my students. Reading that particular trope in a romance story incites an extreme need to suspend my disbelief, which I can do…to a point. I fell in love with Roxie Noir with Daniel and Charlie’s story in Best Fake Fiance. I had signed up to read an ARC of that book and loved every bit of that book. Levi and June followed in Break the Rules, and I found myself, once again, falling deeper for the Loveless Brothers. When I posted Caleb Loveless’s cover, I was ready. There is something that is comforting and homey about the Loveless Brothers. They support each other while also giving each other a hard time. No matter what, though, these guys support and love in ways that evoke true heroic character. Ready for Caleb’s story, I dove into Noir’s, The Hookup Equation. This story offers the message that choosing love will always win even if the circumstances and consequences are difficult.
And I love that message. Truly. Caleb and Thalia are intelligent, thoughtful characters. There are academically-motivated discussions in this book about feminism and choice/consent that are necessary discussions. Noir doesn’t pull the punches with regard to the weight of the power dynamic between Caleb and Thalia. In doing so, it opens discourse about protecting people in a subordinate position from being exploited. This is a prominent discussion in The Hookup Equation. The brilliance of Noir in these moments is her insistence on presenting various viewpoints. From Thalia and Caleb’s perspective, their relationship is consensual, and both are aware of the consequences of it. They don’t identify a power imbalance because they thoughtfully talk about a relationship of equality or partnership. However, through the character of Thalia’s roommate, Margaret, we receive the common perspective of misuse of power. She believes Thalia is unable to notice Caleb’s position of power. Yet, while Noir articulates this through Margaret’s character, she acknowledges the reduction of Margaret’s thinking in reducing Thalia’s sense of choice. She helps us see the problems of making assumptions about people’s relationships without speaking with them directly and allowing their perspective. Noir also involves the administration’s viewpoint of this situation, and it identifies the need to protect students, yet also highlights the stringent, inflexible definitions of morality. These discussions become the “meat,” the gravity, of the story as Caleb and Thalia engage in a “forbidden” relationship. These are important discussions, but the issue with this level of story development is that it can detract from the emotional development of the characters’ relationship.
And this is where The Hookup Equation deviated from the other Loveless Brothers’ books. Since there is an intelligence and academic insight in this book, the emotional connection, the journey towards love, feels innocuous at times. Where I was emotionally engaged in Daniel/Charlie and Levi/June’s stories, the emotional tug of Caleb and Thalia didn’t hit me until almost 90% in, and I missed it in this book. I’ve come to expect it with Noir’s storytelling. Thalia and Caleb have clear chemistry, and as their physical relationship develops, it feels like their connection is more physical, while only sometimes emotional and intellectual. The bigger emotional pay-offs in this book lie in Thalia’s family. Noir is introducing us to a familial dynamic that is contrary to the Loveless family. I’m hoping we will see their family situation play out in books for Thalia’s brothers. But….for The Hookup Equation, while the story between Caleb and Thalia is smart, it’s missing the spark of the last two books. I kept waiting for it, noting the disconnect on the page. It eventually hits, but it doesn’t have the same emotional impact as the other two books.
There is still quite a bit to love about The Hookup Equation. Beyond Caleb and Thalia’s journey, Noir gifts us with a big truth/secret of the Loveless family. We are returned to a place that is starting to feel nostalgic in Roxie Noir’s books. Even more, I see Seth’s forthcoming story as a potential powerhouse given that he is secreted in this one. It would be unrealistic to say that every book MUST be emotional dynamite. The Hookup Equation gives us more of what we love about Roxie Noir: a sentimental, fun-loving family, a story that compels you forward, and a love story that touches on the deeper truths of life.
I loved Caleb and Thalia’s story. I did not want to put this book down. The characters are complex, developed and I loved the witty/sarcastic banter and connection between them. Yes, their relationship is taboo – but who doesn’t love a good romance. This is a well written read that draws you in from the start. Love this book and author. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Magical meet-cute!! This was seriously addicting read. Caleb and Thalia were such great characters that I loved from their first meeting. And their first meeting was just so Lol, funny and entertaining. Their connection was instant, even with the unusual way that they meet, with both of their quirky sense of humor, their big hearts and their sizzling chemistry making these two goners.
This story was not what I was expecting and that was so refreshing! So well written not the typical student-teacher romance. I also loved getting caught up with all of Caleb’s brothers as well as meeting all the secondary characters.
Get ready for some serious fun, a whole lot of sweetness and off the charts sexy in this incredibly entertaining story.
I received an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
Holy smokes I truly loved this book! I am addicted to these Loveless Brothers and Caleb is perfection. He’s so sweet, so hot, so smart and so fun. I love that immediate spark that he and Thalia have. There are laugh out loud moments, moments that make your heart melt, moments that had me crying and then there’s the OMG gasping, open mouthed, can’t believe it moments. Thalia and Caleb have this natural growth and connection, the time spent together and strengthening their relationship. I was also hooked on her friends and brothers. I may be sitting here hoping we get a spinoff with these other characters we were able to get to know. This is a fantastic, must read and I can’t wait for Seth’s story.
The Hookup Equation is the story of Caleb and Thalia’s forbidden romance. These two are so perfect for each other with their quick and witty conversation that is so entertaining, I just want to continue to be the fly on the wall as they continue to live their lives together. And their chemistry is off the charts sexy and hot and insane. Roxie Noir has delivered another well written story in the Loveless Brothers series. I just wish I could move to Virginia to be apart of this family and their loved ones.
The Hookup Equation” is another fantastic addition to Roxie Noir’s the Loveless Brothers Series and once again she does not disappoint. This book is everything and for so many different reasons:
Hilarious Meet Cute – cue the men’s bathroom shenanigans
Sinfully sexy, rugged, outdoorsy, glasses wearing mathematician
Quirky, smart, breathtakingly beautiful, prone to flights of fancy with a hot brain heroine
Instant chemistry that turns into instant lust
The horror of realizing you’ve fallen for your professor/student and the zero pucks you give.
The ever present and ever expanding Loveless family
An incredibly sweet and sexy and well deserved happily ever after.
TBR this fantastic book and if you haven’t read the other books in this series, TBR those as well. (I read an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.)
I enjoyed Caleb’s story so much! I’ll admit I was a little hesitant about the professor/student storyline, but let’s face it, Roxie Noir knows how to write. I was instantly hooked and forget all about my hang ups and enjoyed Thalia and Caleb from page one until the very end! This story had it all and took you a wonderful ride. So excited for Seth’s story!! I definitely recommend this book and the entire series.
I enjoyed the story and its characters, I laughed at times, it was a little predictable, but otherwise enjoyable.
