1.Hate-screw my high school nemesis.2.Remember to hate him.3.Prove my brother wrong. It should be easy.It isn’t.As the owner of Pick-A-D*ck, New Orleans’ premier hook-up website, my job is simple. Connect two people for a no-strings, no-expectations hook-up. The plus for my clients is that I’m the one who gets to sift through the d*ck pics—except this time, they’re required. My problem? My brother, … required.
My problem? My brother, co-owner of Pick-A-D*ck’s sister dating site, doesn’t believe it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love.
I disagree. I know it’s possible.
And my disagreement is exactly how I end up reconnected with my high school nemesis, Elliott Sloane. The guy who asked me to junior prom and then stood me up. Who egged my car when I rejected him, and convinced my senior homecoming date to ghost me.
It should be easy to hate-screw him. If only he was still that person, instead of a hot-as-hell single dad, working as a builder to make ends’ meet, fighting for custody of his daughter.
Three hook-ups.
One outcome.
Right?
(The Hook-Up Experiment is book one of the Experiment duet. If you’ve read The Upside to Being Single, this is Peyton’s story.)

Absolutely amazing!!
Peyton runs PAD a hook up website, she loves her job and her freedom, but when her brother bets her $500 that she can’t have sex with someone three times without falling in love she cannot back down but decides to get her two best friends to choose the man for her.
When she finds out who they have chosen she goes slightly crazy as it is the boy from high school who she believes broke her heart and humiliated her Elliott Sloane.
Elliott has grown up a lot since high school especially since his daughter was born 3 years ago, he tried to explain what happened back then to Peyton but she refused to listen.
When Peyton finally decides to find out what happened all those years ago, it changes everything. Can Peyton get past her fears and let love in? And is she willing to let her brother win?
Peyton Austin is a complete drama queen and can be an unapologetic b*tch at times, but she is also a successful, confident businesswoman who knows what she wants. Her business model may raise eyebrows on some, but she is doing what she loves and she makes no apologies for it- and I love that! Her brother Dom is the romantic of the two of them, and let it never be said that Peyton backed down from a challenge, so when he bets her that she cannot have no strings attached sex 3 times with the same person without falling in love, she cannot say no. Her best friends Chloe and Mellie conspire to choose the person for her, and they think they have made the perfect choice: Peyton’s high school nemesis Elliott Sloane.
Now when I described Peyton above, I left out an important part. That tough exterior hides the teenage girl who was scorned by the boy she crushed on in high school, and when he rejected her she hardened her heart against the possibility of love and relationships. Too bad she was too stubborn to listen to what really happened back then and she continues to hold a grudge 10 years later. Of course the first meeting does not go well but when she explains how they came to be sitting across the table from each other Elliott is surprisingly on board with helping her out. As a single father of a precocious 3 year old, he doesn’t have time for anything more than a casual hookup so a little hate sex isn’t a bad thing in his book. Let the games begin!
The struggle to come out on top – pun intended- is epic at first, but when Peyton finally lets him explain what happened all those years ago, the truth shakes her to her core. Everything she has believed for a very long time just went up in smoke and she doesn’t know how to face that altered reality or- GASP- admit she was WRONG!
The Hook-Up Experiment was a really fun enemies-to-lovers story, and my favorite part was Briony! She is absolutely adorable and provides both comic relief and heart melting sweet moments throughout the book. The story also sets the stage for the UST between Dom and Chloe to finally be resolved in The Dating Experiment, and I will be looking forward to their turn in the spotlight!
This is my fist, last and only book by this author. I don’t get the readers who found this to be amazing. The writing is on par with middle school. Lots of mistakes and poor editing. The dialogue was pathetic and the plot, while not bad, was predictable. I don’t mind swearing, porn, or unconventional women. I do mind women who try to shock with no class or purpose. Altogether a dreadful book.
Peyton and Elliott’s story was perfect! It was funny, sexy and sweet! I had to laugh at the banter, at Briony who totally stole the show! I love the idea of a bet and Peyton practically embraced it despite the ill feelings she harbored over it. She pulled up her big girl panties and got it done. I enjoyed Peyton’s character so much. To have a completely brazen heroine who does as she pleases and makes no apologies for it…. Well… that is the perfect girl. This story had such completely sweet moments that I melted into my seat. It flowed so smoothly that I couldn’t put this book down. This series is just a gold mine and I can’t wait for the next one.
This the first book I have read by Emma Hart, but it certainly will not be my last!
This story of Peyton and Elliot is what a true romantic comedy should be! I mean, I was laughing out loud at the dialogue in this book and I absolutely loved it!
I absolutely loved Peyton! She is what I want to be when I grow up! And her job?!? Absolutely hysterical!
Elliot is the perfect hero and a single daddy to boot? Ovary overload! What I also really liked about this quick read is that Elliot and Peyton didn’t shy away from their feelings for each other, they didn’t keep them hidden. They were honest and upfront about them. Their steamy moments were swoony and made me blush! (Which is a compliment, because it’s hard for me to do that anymore!)
The secondary characters were stellar and the interaction between everyone was fantastic and so, so funny!Emma Hart has acquired a new fan/stalker with this book and I am currently adding all her other works to my TBR list! I cannot wait for Chloe and Dom’s story next! (I mean with a name like Chloe, she is gonna be AWESOME!)
This is the first book I have read by Emma Hart but it certainly won’t be the last one. This is a laugh out loud read. I really enjoyed reading it. Peyton is a fun sassy character. She runs a hook up site while her brother, Dom, co runs a dating site. I loved her and her brother’s relationship. They are pushy with each other but you can tell they love each other. Dom believes in dating and love while Peyton believe you can hook up without falling in love. Dom challenges her to sleep with someone three times and not fall in fall. That sounds easy to Peyton but it turns out to be anything but easy. She gets matched with Elliott. Elliott is a sexy single dad. Her friends think he’s the perfect guy to help her win the bet. Elliott is a last from Peyton’s past. He stood her up for junior prom and for ten years she has hated him. When she finds out the truth of about the past the lines between love and hate get melted. I loved all the characters in this book and can’t wait to read Chloe’s story.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVED this book! Peyton and Elliott were just plain amazing. The whole premise of the storyline, of Peyton’s bet with her brother that she can sleep with someone 3 times in two weeks and not fall in love with them, is a really great idea.
Enter Mellie and Chloe and the fact they choose Peyton’s high school crush turned enemy? Oh boy. Lots of hilarity and swoon-worthy moments ensue.
I fell in love with Elliott instantly, and Bri? Good lord, what a cutie-patootie! Oh my gosh, I adored her! The whole storyline flows really smoothly and has some really nice open and honest moments, be they in the form of arguments, inner realisations, or gentle reminders from their friends, there is a whole lot happening in this one and its just really great all around.
I loved watching Peyton and Elliott learn about each other as adults, and the people they have become in life, in comparison to their high school memories of each other. And I like that fact that the truth comes in to play and they’re adult enough to acknowledge things.
I enjoyed everything about this book, and there is a perfect opening for the next in the series which I think will be just as awesome as this one.
Definitely recommend Peyton and Elliott!
“You run your own business. You own your house. You own your car. You’re strong and independent. You don’t allow anyone to take advantage of you. You’re headstrong and determined. You’re ambitious, and you don’t settle for anything less than the best. But, you’re also compassionate and supportive, and you would drop anything to help the people you love.” Jake held out his hands. “You’re a pain in my fucking ass, but you’re one hell of a woman, Peyton Austin. That little girl would be lucky to have you as her role model.”
This book was definitely so much more than I anticipated. I was introduced to Peyton in The Upside to Being Single, and she was a character that seemed to just LIVE every moment. She was beyond loyal to her friends, but I wasn’t sure exactly how much I would be able to connect with a girl as confident at Peyton. Even beginning this story, I was a bit disconnected because never in my life have I had 1/4 of the confidence that Peyton carries with her on a daily basis. But not too long after the story began, I met Mimi (her grandmother), and I fell in love. Knowing how she acted when she was around her grandmother and seeing how her grandmother treated her, I knew there was a deeper part to Peyton.
When Elliot was introduced, I thought it would be easy to hate him (seeing as he’d done Peyton wrong, of course!), but it surprisingly wasn’t. There was a lot about him, even initially, that kept me interested and made him seem like such a genuine person. As the story progressed, I totally fell in love with him. And his daughter — oh. my. gosh. I ADORE her! I think one of my favorite things about Emma is her ability to write some of the best kiddos out there!
Overall, this book made me laugh, and it made me swoon. I love stories that can be a little silly, but still bring out the depth in their characters and make you feel a bit of realness in them. I totally loved reading this one and will be IMPATIENTLY waiting for Chloe’s story!
Emma does it again! I loved meeting Peyton in The Upside to Being Single and I couldn’t wait to see her story. After finishing her story, she is now my favorite in the trio of best friends.
Peyton is the owner of a hookup website and after a bet with her brother, and letting her best friends meddle, she’s forced to deal with emotions she never saw coming. She’s sassy, confident, and independent. Elliot, is a smoking hot, single dad, and is not the person Peyt thought he was in high school. They’ve both changed since high school but there are some things that never change.
I loved watching them interact and reconnect after 10 years. The banter was hilarious and the tension was sparking off the pages. The swoony moments between these two were full of emotion and was believable in every way.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it about every Emma Hart rom-com; her secondary characters are amazing! Elliot’s daughter was adorable and you couldn’t help but fall in love with her. Peyton and Dominic’s grandmother was the perfect combination of funny, strict, and full of love.
I can’t wait for Chloe’s story! It’s sure to be a great one!
I love Emma Hart’s writing, and this just might be my favorite book of hers yet!!!
The meddling of Peyton’s besties, a reunion between her and her high school crush, and the banter between all of them had me laughing most of the time. While Peyton was a bit of a drama queen, it fit this story perfectly. We get to see her character grow, and become this awesome emotional adult to add to her list of successes. Elliott was sexy, fun, and sweet all rolled in to one. My heart broke for him as he faced a huge challenge in this story, but knew it would all work out in the end. Add in the funniest 3 year old, and you’ve got a fantastic read that I would definitely recommend!!
Another hilarious, witty, and endearing romantic comedy from Emma Hart. As a long time reader, I love this fiery romcom streak Ms. Hart is on.
After making a bet with her brother, Peyton sees Elliott, a man from her past. She’s determined to have a fling and be done with him. I loved Peyton, her character was fun and flirty, she felt like a friend. Elliott had me at first sight. The two of them were explosive together. Elliott is such a good man- in and out of the bedroom.
Overall, The Hook Up Experiment is a must read from Emma Hart. The characters are real and relatable, there is tension and light moments. It’s evenly paced and a book you get enthralled with. I couldn’t help but smile while I followed along. The writing is fabulous, and a must read for the rom-com reader!
This is the first book by Emma Hart that I have read. It definitely won’t be the last either. It had me laughing so many times.
It started as a bet between siblings, Dom and Peyton, and it ended as life changing for Peyton.
Peyton is the owner of a hook-up site, Pick-A-Dick, or PAD. She literally looks at dicks all day long. Then she makes the hook-up matches.
Dom runs the sister site, a dating site.
So the bet…you can’t sleep with someone three times and not fall in love.
These two are very competitive and stubborn!
Did I mention they’re stubborn?!
Peyton’s best friends, Mellie and Chloe, get to pick the dick. What better person to pick than the guy Peyton has hated for the past 10 years. Since high school. No chance of love, right?
Elliott is that guy. But the truth comes out. Things didn’t happen how Peyton thought they did. Told ya, she is stubborn.
Elliott is a really great guy. He’s a great dad too!
If you want a laugh out loud read, one-click this.
I want to read Chloe’s book next! Especially since we learned the truth about the lost keys.
Peyton Austin is independent, sassy and full of snark. Owner of the hook up site Pick-A-D*ck, she’s the queen of helping people hook up with no strings attachments. Her brother owns the sister site, Stupid Cupid which is a dating site. He doesn’t believe you can hook up with someone three times and not fall in love. I know you can, and I intend to prove him wrong.
Elliott Sloane doesn’t have time to date. He’s a single father of a toddler and in the midst of a custody battle. When his mother insists he date, he instead turns to the hook up site for a bit of fun. What he didn’t expect was his high school crush who hates him to walk in and sit down at his table.
Peyton thinks having hate sex three times with my highschool ex who she’s hated for the past ten years after he humiliated her should be easy. He’s hot as hell and she knows there is no way they will ever fall in love. Elliott decides he may as well enjoy his three hook-ups with Peyton because there’s no way she’ll ever forgive him and he doesn’t have the time to make her try.
Things don’t go according to plan, however, when the truth about what really happened in highschool is revealed and a spunky toddler wraps her way around Peyton’s heart. Is winning the bet still the goal, or will winning really mean losing in this case. . . .
I absolutely adored this book. Peyton is a take no prisoners kind of woman. She tells it like it is and makes no excuses for her behaviors. She is self assured and successful. She’s fine with not being tied down and children at this point in her life are really out of the question. Elliott is a hard working single father whose life is run by the tiny three year old in his household. He doesn’t have time to deal with more. But from the moment Peyton walks back into his life, he knows he wants more with her in whatever form he can get it.
What starts as a fun enemies to lovers romance because so much more with the addition of Briony! She is completely adorable and was the star of the book! I enjoyed how at first it really seemed that even though a decade had gone by, not much had changed between Peyton and Elliott, but the more they learned about one another, the faster the sparks started to fly. This book grabbed my heart just about as fast as Briony grabbed Peyton’s and I really enjoyed every single page.
If you love an enemies to lovers romance filled with fun and snarky dialogue, smokin’ hot sex, crazy best friends and an adorable little princess, The Hook-Up Experiment is the perfect weeknd read for you. 5 stars!
The Hook-Up Experiment by Emma Hart is the first book in her Experiment series. This book follows the same group of friends first introduced in The Upside to Being Single. This Peyton’s story and begins with a bet between her and her brother. Told in dual POV and complete with Peyton & Elliott’s HEA, this was a wonderful read, as usual, from the author.
Peyton has her issues. Her business requires her to look at penises, her best friends pair her up with her nemesis from high school for a blind date, and he is too gorgeous to stay away from.
Elliott tried to explain things to Peyton years ago in high school. The fact that she is still simmering over the misunderstanding is a little charming and a little scary. Not one to be put off he is determined to share the truth with her and hope for the best.
Loved it – I cannot wait for Chloe & Dom’s story in The Dating Experiment. Enjoy!
Another laugh out loud book from Emma Hart! Peyton and Elliot were simply hilarious and hot! the story was a page turner and every situation that they got into was really well written (and funny). I loved that he was a single father for a change and the great relationship he had with his little girl! I adored Peyton from the start, but when she interacted with Bry, it was just perfection!! I can’t wait to see what else is in store for this series!!
Emma Hart is the Queen of smart, sassy, and witty romantic comedy! The Hook-Up Experiment was an absolute gem of a read. This book had it all from charismatic characters, witty banter, and off the charts humor. And to top it off, it had the kind of romance that made you smile like a fool in love. Yes, I was that fool who fell in love with Hart’s writing and characters. How could I not when two frenemies discover that this is won’t be any hook-up especially when feelings begins to emerge. And as an added bonus, did I mention that the hero is a single daddy so yeah, prepare to swoon as this single dad has a daughter that can easily melt your heart. So what are you waiting for…go read this book stat and discover why so many readers are head over heels in love with Emma Hart’s romantic comedies.
4.5 Sexy and Sassy Stars for Emma Hart’s latest romantic comedy. I knew from being introduced to Peyton in The Upside to Being Single that she had spunk and was a woman who knew what she wanted……hmm but does she.
Her inability to turn down a dare from her brother is what gets her into this mess. Her profession is to create the hook-up….in and out….no long term relationship. But can she take her own advise? Leaving her “hook-up” in the capable hands of her two besties has turned her world upside down.
Meet Elliott Sloane, the hot, single dad who just so happened to leave a bad taste in your mouth in high school. Sounds like the perfect hook-up don’t you think? Who better not to have a relationship with right? Wrong…..after caving in to their carnal needs Peyton and Elliott can’t stop thinking about each other.
This book was everything have come to expect from Emma’s books. Strong characters that can shine on their own but shine even brighter together. This book has some seriously funny moments as well as heart warming, sexy and sassy ones too. I loved how Elliott was not only a great dad but that he truly was one of the good guys. Swept me off my feet with his determination and tenderness. Briony was just the icing on the cake with her sweet talk and love for her daddy.
I loved catching up with Mellie, Jake and Chloe….even if Jake was the 3rd wheel at their girls meet up….his intentions were good but Peyton’s reaction was priceless. If you are looking for a read that will brighten you day and leave you wanting more….look no further…go grab The Hook Up Experiment as see what everyone’s talking about.
Absolutely the best book written by Hart to date. Peyton and Elliot are amazing. This book is real, snarky and laugh out loud funny. This may have ruined me for all other books. It’s going to be a go-to beach read for me and one that I will highly recommend. Not sure how Hart is gonna top this, but I can’t wait to see.
Emma Hart has such a talent to write funny characters and children’s innocence and hysterical words so well! I can imagine a little kid saying some of the things that are written and it just makes it that much more funny!
I’m SO glad that Peyton got her story!!! I love how open and honest she is, with her PaD website/business and Just herself. She makes no apologies for who she is and makes sure that people know she’s proud of being who she is. I love her so much!!!
And Briony! Which I have NO idea how to pronounce that so I won’t even try. But I love that Briony was described and a miniature Peyton because I could SO see that!!
And GAH! The teasers for the next book/couple!
I cannot get enough of Emma Hart’s stories. They suck you in and leave you wanting them to never end. Her worlds are so creative and make you want to live in them with her characters.
I want to be best friends with Peyton, Mellie and Chloe. I want to go out on girls’ nights, drink wine, and eat donuts all day with them. Payton is fierce, sarcastic, take no shit girl and I loved everything about her. She fears love and doesn’t feel it is for her. She is okay with watching one of her best friends fall in love but never wants that for herself. Mellie and Chloe couldn’t have picked a better blind date for Peyton. It turned out to be the best thing they have done.
Elliott and Briony stole my heart. Elliott is sweet, caring, an amazing father. He made my ovaries burst! Briony stole the show. That’s weet three year old was so innocent, pure and made me laugh so much. Emma knows how to create the best characters. She is the master at pulling you in and making you feel like you are right next to the characters as everything is happening.
I look forward to Dom and Chloe’s story!
