1.Hate-screw my high school nemesis.2.Remember to hate him.3.Prove my brother wrong. It should be easy.It isn’t.As the owner of Pick-A-D*ck, New Orleans’ premier hook-up website, my job is simple. Connect two people for a no-strings, no-expectations hook-up. The plus for my clients is that I’m the one who gets to sift through the d*ck pics—except this time, they’re required. My problem? My brother, … required.
My problem? My brother, co-owner of Pick-A-D*ck’s sister dating site, doesn’t believe it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love.
I disagree. I know it’s possible.
And my disagreement is exactly how I end up reconnected with my high school nemesis, Elliott Sloane. The guy who asked me to junior prom and then stood me up. Who egged my car when I rejected him, and convinced my senior homecoming date to ghost me.
It should be easy to hate-screw him. If only he was still that person, instead of a hot-as-hell single dad, working as a builder to make ends’ meet, fighting for custody of his daughter.
Three hook-ups.
One outcome.
Right?
(The Hook-Up Experiment is book one of the Experiment duet. If you’ve read The Upside to Being Single, this is Peyton’s story.)

3 Stars for the actual storyline. 4 Stars for the hilarity. So, I guess that averages to 3.5 Total Stars. I know I can always count on Emma Hart to give me laugh-out-loud moments and lots of snark. That’s what I love about her writing. Elliott and Peyton were interesting enough characters and they certainly had chemistry. This was their second chance story. It’s not your typical second chance though. It’s way more interesting. There were a few “Ah-Ha” moments for Peyton especially, some for Elliott, too. There’s nothing extremely dramatic or unexpected in this story. There is a lot of fun, though!
Loved it!!!!
Peyton looks at D pics for a living for her dating site (which is already hilarious) and is immune to love. Her brother bets that she can’t hookup with a guy three times and not fall in love. Of course the guy her friends choose to prove the point is her high school archnemesis. In this book enemies get a second chance to be lovers and the journey is hilarious.
“Peyton, I’m going to kiss you. You’re going to let me, and you’re going to like it. “
Talk about fun read. This book was just the remedy I needed after finishing a book that almost gutted me. It’s one of the funniest stories I’ve read in a long time. Emma Hart is becoming a favorite of mine.
Peyton and Elliott made me laugh out loud more times that I could count. But maybe what I loved the most in this story is how Peyton being all tough and strong, let her guard down when she met Elliott’s daughter. Woman is one big softy inside..just don’t tell her i said that 😛
After reading The Upside of Being Single and now this; I can’t wait to see what will happen between Chloe and Dominic. I can already see it – we’re in for a treat 🙂

If you love second chance romances with laugh out loud moments and a sexy single dad then this book is definitely for you. Peyton and Elliott’s story is one with grudges, anger, forgiveness and love that will have you hanging on to every word until the very end. But you will absolutely fall in love with one amazing little girl….Briony!!!!
5 Chocwat Toast and Nana Stars!!!
Once again Ms. Hart has written a book that had me snort laughing out loud, being swooned and then fanning myself because Peyton and Elliott are on fire together!! What’s even better is that this is their second chance and it came about because of a bet Peyton makes with her brother Dom and this girl has no intention of losing….until she comes face to face with Elliott.
Needless to say, they’ve both changed so much since those high school days. The fact that Peyton is the owner of PAD and has to look at certain male parts on a daily basis to match them with casual hook-ups is a never ending source of sarcasm for this group of friends.
While Peyton is slowly falling for Elliott, she’s also falling for his cuter than cute three-year-old daughter Briony. Which is new for her because she’s never been a commitment type of a girl and bring kids into the picture and she’s O-U-T!! But the growth of Peyton’s character throughout the book was so fun and at times a little heartbreaking.
There’s a particular scene when truths are told and Peyton needs to make a decision that will ultimately guide her future in oh so many ways. And leave it to Elliott and his precocious daughter to turn her world upside down in all the best ways.
I absolutely loved EVERY SINGLE THING about this book. The bond Peyton has with Chloe and Mellie is exactly the kind of relationship I have with my closest friends and I once again connected with these girls and how they are always there for each other. And there are some moments that not only was I laughing out loud I was actually crying because I was laughing so hard!! And as a bonus, we got the setup for Dom and Chloe’s story and let me tell you, these two are oil and water and it’s going to be so much fun!!
I just love every single work this woman writes; Emma Hart has a talent unlike any other author for RomComs. She writes about the most fantastic people (ok, ok, I hear that they are characters… pft whatever!!). Her books are completely charming and adorable! I want to be Peyton when I grow up or I want to be reincarnated and be her child. I just adored this woman! I mean anyone who can run a super successful website such as hers… yes, I’m being vague, and she spends her time searching out the male anatomy with the profiles. She’s amazing, you get this, right?
So any man that Hart puts up with Peyton better be an ULTRA amazing man! He needs to be strong and fierce. He needs to be self assured because he’s getting a strong and vibrant woman in Peyton. Hart succeeded, doesn’t she always though? I mean, Elliott was just what Peyton needed! Who better for her than a man she completely despised her entire teenage life? Peyton has been holding a major grudge and Elliott isn’t about the let that stop him. He’s relentless. I adored his persistence!
Like every book that Hart gives her followers, The Hook-Up Experiment is flawlessly written. It’s upbeat and fun. The characters in this book are fun and flawed, they are hilarious and I completely swooned over this book! Plus any book that has an adorable little girl like Briony is just guaranteed to be amazing! I fell for this little girl quickly. She just gets to the heart of life. Kids don’t mess around, they can gut adults with their honesty. Emma Hart continues to give us this sweetly, strong men that just are so crazy about their slightly crazy women who are generally tougher than nails! Let’s not forget that this woman sure knows how to bring up the heat! Those intimate scenes were scorching! I can’t recommend Emma Hart’s books enough!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
One of my favorite tropes in romance is enemies-to-lovers and The Hook-Up Experiment did not disappoint me.
Peyton is a confident, sexy, sassy, independent, successful woman, who can’t say no to a bet especially if she knows she’s going to win it… So, Peyton bets her brother that it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love and well… she’s the perfect test subject. She’s going to prove him wrong and win 5 hundred dollars. But she wasn’t expecting to hook up with her high school enemy. Elliott. Hot, sexy Elliott that aged so perfectly… There’s no way she’s going to fall in love with him, right?
Elliott is a hot, sexy, swoon-worthy, perfect, charming man who has his struggles as a single dad. He doesn’t have much time to date, so he signs up on a website just to hook up, no strings attached. But the first blind date is one hell of a surprise…
Honestly, I think I might have a crush on Peyton! I loved her! Her style, her stubbornness, her spontaneity, everything about her was lovable. The chemistry and the banter are off the charts, Dominic (Peyton’s brother) and Chloe’s (Peyton’s BFF) comical moments made me laugh so many times, I really loved the Friends vibe and Briony is such a sweet, sweet kid. The Hook-Up Experiment is a low angst, charming, hilarious, addictive, swoony, light romantic comedy. Can’t wait for Dom and Chloe’s story!
The Hook-Up Experiment is Emma’s next rom-com stand-alone romance. If you read The Upside of Being Single then you have already met Peyton. If you didn’t read it then you definitely should. You can read it either before or after this one. I loved Peyton, she is a complete badass. An independent woman who knew what she wanted. Freedom. Sex. Business. Love was not on her list. Her brother called her out on her bullshit. That she couldn’t sleep with a guy three times within two weeks without falling in love. Challenge accepted.
Easy. That was until her best friends fucked her over by setting her up with her high school nemesis. The boy who broke her heart without him knowing it. She hated him. She hated him even more now since he was looking even hotter now. It’s been ten years since she gave him her last “I will kill you” glare. She should have walked away but then he made a good point. That there was no way she could lose this bet if she slept with him. She hated him. There was no way she would fall for him and there was no way he would let her.
Elliott couldn’t believe she was here. She was more stubborn now then she was in high school. She was more of a spitfire as well. She scared the fuck out of him. He should have laughed this off and walked out of her life. He didn’t have time for this. He didn’t even want to go to dinner. His mom made him get out of the house. To take a break from his three year old daughter. But, he couldn’t move. He wanted her more now then ever. Why not hook-up with a sassy and sexy woman three times and say goodbye? He wanted a hook up. She wanted to win a bet. It’s a win-win.
Right? It will be the best way to win $500 ever.
Elliott and Peyton’s hook-up experiment is one funny, sexy, and crazy ride. I was hooked from the very beginning until the very end. I read it in one sitting. I loved the banter between Elliott and Peyton. I laughed hard with the banter between Peyton and her brother Dom. Then there was the banter between Dom and Peyton’s bestie Chloe. Omg. All these characters are so much fun! They are also stubborn as fuck. But this one is about Elliott and Peyton. It was fun watching them to get to know the real them. The adult version of their teenage fantasies. It was both sexy and beautiful. I even cried! There is also one other character that I fell for…Bri. She is so stinkin’ cute!!! I can’t even with her. Precious.
Overall…it’s one of my favorite rom-com of Emma’s! The characters. The writing. The story. The heat. The heart. The barbies. The pizza. Everything made me smile!
Quotes:
Elliott sighed. “Well, who knows when the next time I’ll be able to have a date will be? And I guess there are worse people I could have sex with than you.”
“Wow. Talk dirty to me.”
“She’s here to fix the plumbing, Mom,” he said dryly.
“Okay, I’ll get pizza, and you two look pretty.” I stood up.
Briony leaned right against her and looked at me. “Oh, Daddy. We are priddy.”
I feel like really this is part of a series with one of the first Emma Hart books I read, The Upside to Being Single. And if you read the whole synopsis below, it does say that our main character, Peyton, is in that story. But I guess it isn’t technically a part of a series with that one. Doesn’t matter though because I still loved it! The characters were so great. A lot of things about Peyton totally reminded me of myself. Also, I think her bet is possible, three times without falling in love, but not with someone you already have such a history with! Someone you’d had a crush on, and then when we find out he has a daughter? An adorable little daughter? How is that not just totally something you wouldn’t automatically fall in love with? There was so much fun in this story, and I totally loved the scenes with Chloe and Peyton’s brother as well, so I can’t wait to read their story at some point too. Once again Emma Hart totally makes me love her stories and pretty much has sealed herself as one of my all-time favorite authors, probably auto-buy!
Loved it. Actually read these out of order. Started with The Dating Experiment. I loved it so much I went back for The Hookup Experiment. Emma Hart is a rockstar!
OK, So I may have snorted tea through my nose while reading this book.
Emma Hart yet again delivers another quick-witted sassy female in the name of Peyton and her sarcasm had me bursting with laughter when I least expected it, hence the kindle covered in tea numerous times.
Not only does Emma Hart know how to write contemporary romance well but she also knows what the reader wants and that’s humor, hotness, and all the bits in between that lead up to heartwarming hea.
I loved Peyton and Elliott.
What started off as a hate relationship on Peyton’s part with a huge dose of chemistry turned into a heartwarming transformation in Peyton’s character with the help of a hot baby daddy.
“Peyton was a tornado in a teacup. A wild, beautiful force of nature ready to forge a path for herself, no matter who or what was in her way”
A little bit about the plot;
Peyton runs her own matchmaking company, it’s not your usual find love kind of business and is basically more for hookups, Peyton isn’t a conventional type of girl and neither is her business. When she is challenged by her brother to a bet that you can fall in love after three hookups with the same guy Peyton who is stubborn and faces a challenge head-on agrees to the little experiment and bet and definitely thinks she is going to be laughing all the way to the bank with his five hundred dollars….. Only it didn’t quite go to plan.
Peyton isn’t allowed to pick her date but her best friend who also works for her brother can and she picks a guy who Peyton hates from high school due to the fact he stood her up at Junior prom, its a sure bet, no way would Peyton fall for the guy she avoided for the rest of her school life?.
Peyton sees Elliott on their blind date and she like a red rag to a bull even 10 years later, lets just say Peyton can hold a grudge.
” I can’t believe I had sex with Elliott Sloane, Red hot filthy dirty-talking sex. And I liked it. I’d liked it. I was attracted to him. Hated him. but attracted to him. Did that even make sense?”
The hook Up Experiment is filled with anticipation, Will it be three strikes and he’s out?
A brilliant rom-com, I read it in one sitting and to be honest It ended to soon I didn’t want to let them go, I wanted more, a wedding the whole shebang.
I laughed, well-snorted tea, adored the chemistry, hotness and the characters, I swooned at Elliot’s baby daddy moments and his patience and I applaud the whole feel-good vibe Emma Hart has a gift of delivering in her writing and plot.
First off, let me start by saying I’m a huge Emma Hart fan and so I may be a little biased. Peyton owns an internet hook up site called PADs or Pick-a-D**k. Weird premise that I can’t believe anyone would actually take a picture to upload to a site, but it all adds to the fun. After yet another childish fight with her 30 year old brother, Peyton agrees to find a guy, hook up three times in two weeks, and not develop any feelings. The bet $500 – easy money in Peyton’s mind. The problem arises when her friends pick her hook up and it turns out to be Elliot Sloane, the person who stood her up for Junior prom and told people not to ask her to Senior Prom. Could this get any worse? Of course it could, she has to sleep with Elliot, her high school crush, and not feel anything even when he tells her he’s a single father to an adorable three year old who steals Peyton’s heart. Fun story, well written and I’m looking forward to the Dating Experiment next.
3.5**
Emma Hart has done it again!
Every single book she writes, she completely knocks out of the park. The Hook-Up Experiment is no exception. Every line was written to pure and utter perfection. I found myself laughing out loud, swooning and oohing and ahhing. There was never a moment where I felt bored or tired of reading.
When you throw in the moments of steam and the moments of emotion, you have a novel that will not soon leave your mind.
Emma Hart is one of those authors that also writes some of my favourite novels. I urge everyone to go and read this favourite of mine today.
5/5 Stars!
The Hook Up Experiment is one fun, sexy, and sweet read.
Elliot and Peyton don’t like each other. Not one bit. Since they were teenagers. So you could imagine their surprise when they meet again. I honestly loved Peyton, and she was hilarious and strong-willed. Also, a bit of a neat freak. The situation with them begins with a bet, don’t all situations like this start with a bet?
This was also very fun, and it wasn’t too emotional. There are some moments that can pull at your heartstrings. But sometimes you need a story like this. It was written well, as usual, Hart has some fun characters. And a writing style that I adore.
Overall, Five Boundless Stars

I really love Emma Hart’s writing and her romcoms. Love the way she creates and developes her characters especially heroines who are so strong, brave, independent, sassy and can do anything man can do. I love single parent and enemies to lovers trope so this book didn’t disappoint.
Peyton is so confident, strong, determined, stubborn, sexy, sassy, independent, successful woman who owns her style/body, her strengths, her spontaneity. I loved everything about her and she is so loveable and caring person. I loved how snarky and sarcastic she was.
Elliott is an attractive, hot (mess), sexy, charming, swoon worthy single father with an adorable 3 year old daughter who is pretty sassy too. I loved how much he loved his daughter and how he was treating her.
I loved the friendship between the girls: Peyton, Chloe and Mellie and Peyton’s special relationship with her brother Dom. Their interaction is so entertaining and comical. I can’t wait to read Dom and Chloe’s book.
Elliott and Peyton have known each other in high school. Due to misunderstanding Peyton ignored him and started hating him. After ten years, they meet again, as blind date set up by Peyton’s best friends: Chloe and Mellie and due to Peyton’s bet with her brother that you can sleep with person and not fall in love. I loved their banter and how sarcastic they both were. Also liked that Elliott and Peyton were both hot messes and flawed characters. The attraction, pull and low angst are present. They are both struggling with attraction and feelings. I loved that they started off as enemies – well on Peyton’s part – and that it turned out to be such a heartwarming, touching, moving, story. I loved Peyton’s transformation and her and Elliott’s relationship growth.
I highly recommend Emma Hart’s books because they never disappoint and you will always fall for her amazing characters and have laugh out loud and hilarious moments with sexy and passionate times.
OMG! Oh my freaking goodness! After reading The Upside to Being Single back in January I knew that Peyton’s story was going to be legendary and let me just say that Emma Hart certainly did not disappoint! She’s not the QUEEN of ROMCOM for nothing…
The Hook-Up Experiment is book one in The Experiment series and damn readers are in for the ride of their life with this hilariously funny and sexy read. Peyton and Elliott’s story was the perfect mixture of romantic comedy and enemies-to-lovers. I could not imagine a more perfect couple them these two. Their love-hate chemistry was off the charts both in and out of the bedroom! Oh and in case you didn’t gather this little detail from the synopsis, Elliott’s daughter captured my heart and I couldn’t get enough of this little girl. She wiggled her way into not only my heart, but Peyton’s. Little kids have a way of doing that…don’t they?
Although this book can technically be read and enjoyed as a standalone, I can’t help but recommend picking up a copy of The Upside to Being Single first. Trust me you will not regret it because not only will you get Mellie and Jake’s story, but you will get a little inside look at Peyton’s witty sense of humor!
Peyton and Elliott are taking hate sex to whole new level. Peyton is the happy owner of a hookup app that specializes in casual no strings attached fun, something that grinds her weirdly romantically inclined brother’s gears. Dom decides he wants to call Peyt on her bluff that all she interested in fun fun fun with a friendly sibling wager. She has to sleep with someone 3 times in 2 weeks and not fall in love. Should have been an easy enough task, until somehow karma gets involved and the guy selected for the task is none other than Elliott, the boy that crushed her heart in high school. After 10 years of teenage fueled rage you would think it would easy to despise the guy, but destiny is quite fickle. Between aging oh so handsomely, becoming the world’s greatest father, and his skills in the sack she just might be screwed… literally and figuratively.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Elliott is oftened surprised by his woman, “you own the hook-up website?” he finally said after a moment of staring at me like I had two heads.” Peyton and Elliott are two of the most honest people that are perfect for each, neither hold their thoughts in check, “I rubbed my hand down my face. “You said *** a lot, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m turned the eff on right now.” Elliott isn’t one for being told no, “Peyton, I’m going to kiss you. You’re going to let me, and you’re going to like it.” I wasn’t leaving any room for discussion— it was effing well happening.” Sometimes Elliott just has to intervene his woman, “well, Peyt, it’s been thirty minutes. You don’t have to fold my pants while wearing your underwear.” I looked at the pile of laundry.” I loved this book, Peyton and Elliott were just made for each other.
