Every first Sunday in June, members of the Moses clan gather for an annual reunion at a sprawling hundred-acre farm in Arkansas. And every year, Samuel Lake, a vibrant and committed young preacher, brings his beloved wife, Willadee Moses, and their three children back for the festivities. In the midst of it all, Samuel and Willadee’s outspoken eleven-year-old daughter, Swan, is a bright light. … Her high spirits and fearlessness have alternately seduced and bedeviled three generations of the family. But just as the reunion is getting under way, tragedy strikes, jolting the family to their core and setting the stage for a summer of crisis and profound change.
With the clear-eyed wisdom that illuminates the most tragic — and triumphant — aspects of human nature, Jenny Wingfield has created an enduring work of fiction.

I loved this book and didn’t want it to end! As soon as I finished the last page, I quickly did a search for other books by this author (Jenny Wingfield) and was disappointed to find that she doesn’t have any other books out! What?? I hope that changes in the not too distant future, she is a wonderful author and I can’t remember the last I …
The Homecoming of Samuel Lake is 1950s Southern Lit at its best. It’s a story of good & evil, dark & light, love & redemption, and overcoming the loss of innocence. There is is something special about this story that will stay with you. Just.Read.This.Book.
4.5 rounded up!
Jenny Wingfield’s style of writing kept me flipping pages. In any given chapter, you’d hear from various characters, but it wasn’t confusing at all. She is a screen writer, and she wrote one of my favorite coming of age movies – THE MAN IN THE MOON – which was Reese Witherspoon’s acting debut.
The only thing that kept HOMECOMING …
It’s 1956 in Columbia County, Arkansas and the Moses family are getting ready for their annual get-together. Sam Lake, a Preacher, drives his wife, Willerdee, and the children back to his in-laws farmstead and leaves them there as he progresses on his way to an annual convention of Preachers. Fully expecting to be away from his wife for a week …
OMG, this story had everything. I cannot quit reading. The good people are good, but the evil dad is so awful. There are people out there who are like this actually in real life. The evil people seem to never get caught. There are clever sayings in the characters lives. Please read this amazing story.

Kind of boring , ok
This book hooked me from page 1 and held me to the very last page.
Sometimes disturbing, always entertaining, very hopeful, so many emotions. You can’t put this book down. LOVED it. 5 stars

Loved it!
I didn’t want this story to end. Well written and I loved the characters.
I liked this book . It held my interest. I enjoyed the different types of characters.
While this was a wonderfully written book, it was difficult for me to read due to the descriptive animal abuse and domestic abuse scenes
I think her experience as a screen writer gave this author really good tools with which to write a very good novel! Especially interesting was the background of how it came to be, which I read on my Kindle. Interesting, multi-layered characters, some surprises along the way, just well written for a first novel. I hope she writes more!!
Tedious

Loved this book. Characters were believable and straight out of the South.
Loved it!
Thoroughly enjoyable. Shows that even though bad things happen in life, the human spirit overcomes. Especially interesting book for Christian readers.
