Impatient. Demanding. Sexy. Bossy.I hate my new boss. He’s Everett Brewer: Football’s smoking hot, superstar running back. When I signed on to be the NFL superstar’s in home personal assistant, I had no idea what I was in for. Every one of his previous personal assistants quit after one week, max. After meeting him just once, I see why. He’s brooding. Impatient. Demanding. And add in a little too … Impatient. Demanding. And add in a little too sexy for his own good.
His standards are ridiculously high. But I really need this job.
We’re at odds, but he doesn’t know I’m halfway to finding out his secret, thanks to a note he scribbled on a napkin that I found.
Could the man who hits harder than anyone else actually have a soft spot?
I thought he would never drop his icy exterior and reveal his hot interior.
Even superstars have a girl they change for.
Turns out I’m that girl.
Only problem is, I’m hiding a secret, too.
And it’s one he might not forgive me for.
But falling in love is never easy. Especially with a man as complex as Everett Brewer.

I’m really enjoying this author lately. This is the third book i’ve read from him. I’m definitely going to go back and read the first book in this series.
Lgood book
It’s been awhile since I read a Mickey Miller book and I forgot what his writing style was like. I’m always a little bit shocked that he seems to be able to write women so well.
Everett is a football player who doesn’t fit the stereotype. He doesn’t go out and party. He doesn’t fall for the cleat chasers. He seems to live a very solitary life. Thanks to chance run in with Emma at a hot dog stand.
Emma is a recent college graduate who will work almost any job, including one that bends her morals, in order to support her family. After Emma’s dumb luck, she finds herself working for Everett, against his wishes.
And alright story. It’s not that there is anything wrong with the story. It just feels like most of the conflict wasn’t resolved, just swept under the rug. Ends happily enough.
I really enjoyed the overall story in addition to the romance. Everett was the perfect broody, moody hero that needed an independent, no nonsense girl like Emma to add light and balance to his life.
And they go at it like bunnies once they give in to their passions. It was a steamy read that tapped a variety of emotions.
I loved The Hold Out because it was different from your typical sports romance. Emma becomes Everett’s personal assistant and doesn’t back down to his attitude. Everett has a secret that’s he’s keeping from everyone and Emma has an idea he is hiding something. I am a huge fan of Mickey Millers books and this is a great example of why. The Hold Out is engaging from the start and I found it hard to put it down because I needed to find out what happened next.
Everett and Emma are hot together. Poor Everett going through so much. Ugh his team people are shady and I get trying to protect themselves and their ‘asset’ but ugh. Just ugh. Hire someone to spy. Not cool. I’m glad Emma wound up being upfront. They were molten together. That love hate thing from the start and lots of tension. They both had a lot going on with her helping her sister and kids and him learning about quite the bombshell from when he was a teen. Then the sad prospect of cancer ruining a future. Loved them together and glad about the ending and HEA.
The Hold Out is the hot, sweet, angsty and cheeky story of NFL star Everett and his PA Emma. Everett and Emma are both full of secrets. But they don’t realize that what they both need to heal is each other. It will keep you engaged with humor, fun, honesty, heart melting moments, sexual tension and so much steam.
I highly recommend The Hold Out and author Mickey Miller!
Loved the darker edge of this enemies to lovers romance. The combination hatred and heat from these characters made for one heck of a read. So much different than what I’m used to reading by this author and I loved it. With each story his writing just gets better and better. I cannot wait to see what he comes up with next!
Wow, Mickey Miller as done it again! Everett & Emma have a fiery chemistry! Everett is a star running back for the Chicago Grizzlies. He has a secret from his past that he hasn’t even told his family about it, let alone explain it to management with the Grizzlies. This leaves him angry and frustrated and downright grumpy. Emma is working a dead end job, caring for her pregnant sister and her niece. An argument between her and Everett about tipping, goes viral at the wiener stand she works at, changing the course of both of their lives. This story has a bit of everything from enemies to lovers, to anger issues, and secrets that will eat you up inside if you allow them to. It also has a beautiful story of love and learning to forgive yourself for things out of your control. I truly enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to read Jocko’s story next! There is so much more I could have added to this review, but i would rather you just read the book yourself!
OMG, Mickey Miller you gained yards by breaking tackles on this one!! This enemies to lovers story was beautifully written, and it had me totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I was hooked from the very first page—laughing, swooning, fanning, and highlighting awesome quotes.
Playing football for the NFL has always been Everett Brewer’s dream. He is good at football, but bad with love. He is a superstar running back, has recognition, famous, and wealthy—let alone swoon-worthy hot and sexy alpha male who is also arrogant, demanding, cruel, impatient, temperamental, and intoxicatingly attractive. Everett meets his match when he encounters Emma while getting hot dogs. Everett gets an ear full when he does not give a ‘tip’ to the sassy, feisty and obstinate beautiful Emma. She has blatant disregard for his fame, but there’s one problem: she’s shut him down completely! What happens when their little disagreement about ‘tips’ goes viral on social media? Emma starts working for Everett as his personal assistant. And now, Everett can’t get Emma out of his mind—even when he is playing, even when he needs to focus. Even when he is on a winning streak because as it turns out, Emma is not some random woman—she works for the team—his team! Everett can’t have Emma finding out about his secrets. Will Emma be able to find out Everett’s secrets while working for him? Emma has secrets of her own that Everett can’t find out. I wasn’t expecting the turn this story took; it has quite an unexpected revelation that may leave you flabbergasted! The storyline is fluid, and it will pique your interest.
Wow what amazing hot read that is funny and exciting to read. That will have you loving this exciting read that will have you reading this in one sitting.
Another great read by Mickey Miller, he has you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next!!! Once you start reading you can’t put down, one hot read!!!! I recommend as a must read!!!
Love Everett and Emma! Working for a football player isn’t easy especially as his personal assistant. Love Emma’s persistance and the way she “handles” Everett. Kid gloves are off, it’s everything he needs and more.
Mickey Miller brings another fantastic sports romance to our shelves!!
The Hold Out, book two in the Brewer Brother series, gives us the story of Everett and Emma. Everett is a very talented professional football player and Emma is his personal assistant. But everything isn’t as it seems.
Secrets. Betrayal. Lust. This book has it all. The chemistry between Emma and Everett is off the charts and so so hot.
Miller delivered with this sexy sports romance. But this isn’t your typical sports love story. There are secrets. Dirty, dirty laundry that can’t be aired. Lies and grief. Deceit and betrayal.
The Hold Out is a story that you don’t want to skip over! I can’t wait to see what Mickey comes up with next!!
This enemies-to-lovers football romance had me hooked from chapter one. When hotdog girl Emma Foster takes on football superstar Everett Brewer, things go viral pretty quickly. I like Emma-she’s family-oriented, kind & compassionate, and loyal. She’s no pushover though, and can stand up for herself spectacularly. She can tell something is up with her new boss (the following scene was hilarious!) and she is nosy AF. I loved the plot, got caught up on the feels, not just the love the characters develop, but the devotion to family, the regret, the uncertainty of life. Friendship, love, trust, redemption, & forgiveness all feature prominently. Such a great story! Looking forward to Jocko & Allie’s story.
I received a copy of this book. My honest review is voluntarily provided.
Everett Brewer, football star, is poised for a comeback when he’s forced to accept the team’s hiring a personal assistant, Emma. Sparks fly between them as each of them is harboring a secret which could change everything. Mickey Miller, as always, writes amazing characters, super sexy love scenes and a few twists and turns in the plot that keep the reader hooked till the end.
“Definitely not a robot….I think I can feel your pulse beating, finally.”
“I think you must have breathed life back into me.”
What a great enemies-to-lovers story!! Everett is my favorite kind of hero – brooding, arrogant, and carrying the guilt for something that wasn’t his fault. He just needs the right woman to see right through it all and make him face his demons.
Everett Brewer has been off his game. Having to sit out last season was rough, and now he has to work his way back to the field. His coach, the team owner, even his teammates know something is up, but he can’t tell them. He can’t tell anyone. The faults of his past can’t come out. Now, he’s been assigned a personal assistant – one whose life he’ll make as difficult as he can. Especially when he finds out it’s HER. Why her? Did she not humiliate him enough already? But he soon finds out he likes having her around. A lot. This is not what he planned – not at all.
Emma Foster is trying to balance a crappy paying job, helping out her recently widowed sister , and somewhere in there trying to actually have a life. When a rude encounter with Everett Brewer goes viral on YouTube, she never thought in a million years she’d actually end up working for him. The more she gets to know him, the more she likes him, and the more certain she is that he’s hiding something. Well, so is she , and when he finds out, any chance of happiness with Everett Brewer will be a distant memory.
These two were adorable together. Everett pushing all of Emma’s buttons and Emma pushing right back. No mater how hard he tries to push her away, to wallow in his own self-pity and guilt, she just won’t have it. The push and pull of their attraction was amazing. Will they? Won’t they? Should they? Shouldn’t they? And once they do? BOOM!! Definitely grab this one!! If you haven’t read book 1, grab that too!!
I love the way Mickey Millers writing always has heat but also humor and great back and forth banter. Everett and Emmas first encounter is nothing less then amusing and sets up Emmas personality as a spitfire perfectly, she takes no nonsense no matter who the person is. Little does Everett know he will be seeing her a lot more since she’s now his new PA and be forced into quitting now matter what his antics are. Really really enjoyed this one
I voluntarily reviewed a advanced readers copy of this book
The Hold Out is an enemies to lovers story that is funny and sexy as hell!! The story pulls you in, keeps you in a constant state of, will they or won’t they, and just kiss and make up already!! I definitely recommend this book. I really liked the way Emma didn’t let Everette get away with a thing, and started to penetrate his layers like no other. Take a seat, get all comfy and enjoy!!
