Now a major motion picture.A great modern classic and the prelude to THE LORD OF THE RINGS. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid … plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.
A glorious account of a magnificent adventure, filled with suspense and seasoned with a quiet humor that is irresistible . . . All those, young or old, who love a fine adventurous tale, beautifully told, will take The Hobbit to their hearts. -New York Times Book Review

Tolkein!!!!!
I just love this book!
This is one of those books that is better than the movie. And the movie was awfully darn good!
Before Lord of the Rings there was the Hobbit. J.R.R. Tolkien takes you on a wild adventure. This epic fantasy is even better than the original trilogy.
I have known the little people of the Shire for years. These books are a read and read again. I love them
Loved it the first time I read it, but after reading the Trilogy, found Hobbit much slower paced. Obviously, I have re-read it and continue to do so because even tho I know the story, the Hobbit makes a good foundation (but not essential) for reading The Trilogy.
I loved this book more than the Lord Of the Rings series, it was a more up-beat read and I found it more captivating!
is there anyone who hasnt read The Hobbit? shame on you, then!
This is a classic. I remember first reading it in 1966. I still enjoy reading it today.
Such a great start to the epic LOTR journey. One of my favourite books as a child and still one of my favourites today.
I feel like this book is amazing for people who like fantasy. You can enter yourself in this world of Hobbits, Men, Elves, Dwarves and Orcs!
A must read!
I have loved this book since I was in grammar school, I’ve read it countless times and it still elicits adventure and longing to be along on Bilbo Baggins trip into the unknown with Gandolf the Grey.
This book is for anyone, who enjoys a bit of the magical and wonder of finding whole new worlds to explore and the dangers and newfound …
Beautiful language. The book gives you a solid foundation and additional information for the Lord of the Rings. Beautifully written and detailed descriptions.
Just a wonderful classic.
I found this book had a slow start, but once I got into it I really enjoyed it. I think seeing the move helped as well. I’ve now actually read this book multiple times.
This was my gateway into Science Fiction and Fantasy! I’ve read it multiple times and take different things away from it each time.
This is a classic! Who wouldn’t enjoy taking a trip through this universe?
great read
Read this in high school and it’s still an enthralling book. A must read for all ages.
