Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

While not one of my favorites, I enjoyed it enough that when the Kindle version went on sale, I picked up a copy. Now if/when I want to re-read it, I don’t have to spend hours searching through our books.
Irreverent and original, this is scifi aimed squarely at humor. Monte Python it ain’t, but it’s still good light comedy with interesting …
A great read for these troubled times. Wouldn’t you like to be rescued from this self isolation we’ve be plunged into in 2020 and whisked into another time and place.
Escape with the hero of the book, Arthur Dent and explore another Universe or two or three. Meet some fantastic characters, enjoy a fun read from Douglas Adams.
And, if you like …
Classic SF comedy
This was not my favorite book, but it may be a necessary read for someone who “likes” science fiction. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and it can be fun.
Classic, British humor and an absolute must read!!

A real classic, plenty of unpredictable twists and fun.
This is the pinnacle of well told satire. The fact that it is set as a Sci Fi novel is just n added bonus. Always witty, sometimes incredibly funny, well written and thoroughly enjoyable. This is a “bucket list” book. You WILL enjoy it, and won’t have to jump out of an airplane to scratch it off your list!
This book was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud on almost every page!
Fantastic read. Pretty much launched a whole genre.

My favorite book of all time!
This is a classic. I have purchased this book multiple times in different formats so that I can revisit this wonderful universe again and again.
Only one word: fantastic
One of my FAVORITE sci-fi/fantasy stories. I love the sheer playfulness of Douglas Adam’s works.
Douglas Adams had a wonderful vision of what the funny mushrooms in the cave saw as the shadows on the wall. Very clever and fun to ingest.
