Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!
Praise for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Douglas Adams was one of a kind.
One of the books that changed my life. If you read this, keep on going through the 5 part trilogy. That will give you an idea of how things will go. No matter what happens, make sure you have your towel!
Need to add “wacky” to the choices! Douglas Adams is NOT an ordinary brain!!! Very interesting sci-fi!! VERY!!
Grab your Towel and stick our your thumb, because your at the beginning of a wild ride.
This review is for the audio version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: The Illustrated Edition by Douglas Adams and read by Stephen Fry.
First, let me say that I’ve never read THGTTG. Being a child of the eighties and a fan of science fiction, I’ve long been aware of the story. I’ve even become tangentially aware of some of the jokes …
Not a big fan of HGTG, you may like it. Well written just not my cup of tea.
Happy Towel Day.
Super creative whimsical read. Short. Great for tweens
I was ask what is my favorite book. Mine answer is “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. I guess you should like British humor but not necessarily. Everything you wanted to know can be found in this book.
not much of the book is threre
If you haven’t heard about this book or are unaware that it is one of the great classics of its genre, crawl back under your rock. There’s nothing I can say to praise this that others have not already said, for many years. Read the book already 🙂
One of a kind. Nothing could be better.
one of the best book series i have ever read. loved it so much that i have DON’T PANIC tattooed on my bicep.
This is just the kind of book you need for a laugh. The humor is timeless. It is a great pick-me up for current times. Just be ready for a lot of silliness.
Completely original. I read this book in the 80s & have never forgotten the wonderful scenes Adams conjured up; some of them had me crying with laughter. I highly recommend this book as a mood elevator of the first order.
just fun to read
So good!! I didn’t read this one for a long time because I thought the hype wasn’t real for it. But this book is so good! It’s amazingly funny and so unpredictable. Douglas Adams is extremely creative! I really enjoyed this book.
A true classic
Better than average, lost it’s way towards the end
It was almost as boring as the movie and was mostly stupid not funny I know it had multiple layers but it was too boring to even think about that
