Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

Too bad the app won’t let me click on most every descriptive word on the list!
OMG. This stuff is hilarious, touching, inventive and completely off this world. If you want your funny bone tickled and your reasoning bone scratched, read this and the other 4 books in the trilogy.
Just don’t be surprised if you laugh a little too hard once in a …

Dry
Hilarious odd story
Just cuddle up under a blanket and giggle the afternoon away.
Hilarious, and a quick and easy read. Highly recommend!
Brilliant novel – probably the best Douglas Adams ever wrote. If you enjoy quirky and out of this world you should read this!
(I read the non-illustrated version of this book)
I’ve only read this book once before (2 years ago, which feels like forever), and I’d clearly forgotten that while I enjoy the humor, the style of the narration, and the various descriptions of human items, the story itself was kind of meh. For that, I’d say it’s mostly because it’s only the first …
I enjoyed this read but did not overly enjoy it. It did not blow me away and it did not have me glued to the pages. There wasn’t anything intrinsically wrong with the book, I just don’t think it was quite what I was looking for when I picked it up. I did quite enjoy the humor in the book. However, most of it was quite confusing and I had to keep …
This is the Holy Grail of whimsical yet profound fiction.
It’s a series you can enjoy over and over. Don’t forget your towel.
Grab your towel you’re in For a wild ride with characters as fun and as wild as any.
Oh by the way thanks for the fish and thank you
How did I miss this one in all the books I’ve read? Maybe the universe has a way of sending it along exactly when I needed it. If you love good satire, brilliant comedic writing, a funky trip into outer space, and some really wonderful characters, you should check this out. It’s like a funny StarTrek sitcom. I loved it so much I have ordered the …
Reminded me of Monty Python. I never cared much for Monty Python. Give me a good murder mystery any day!
This will probably be my shortest review ever, because I just don’t have a lot to say. I really wanted to like this book, to find it humorous and enjoyable like so many people I know. But I didn’t. I could see where the humor was supposed to be, but most of the time I didn’t find it particularly funny. Maybe a little clever, and I do remember …
I saw the movie and had to read the book for a comparison. The book is much better at bringing forth the characters and the overall story. A great read when you need a good laugh and a break from the drama of a space opera title.
Okay, dry British humor is not for everybody. But I’ll never apologize for reading this or watching the movies.
I still haven’t got the knack of flying, though. I’ve never managed to miss the ground.
A quintessential book for any Phoenix Ward fan. I’d give it 42 stars if I could!
This is a classic that everyone should read. Fun for all ages.
It’s a modern classic of the genre. Everyone should read it as part of modern cultural literacy
