Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

The best!
A masterpiece.
I loved this book which I read many years ago. This author thinks like me. I found it very entertaining and ironically current.
Horribly written. Couldn’t finish.
Grab a towel put out your thumb and lets go for a ride. “42”
Not for everyone. Great f you enjoy British humor though…
Liked all books in the “trilogy”. Great world building, memorable action and characters. Kept me fascinated throughout!
A must read!
42!
Wild ride. Make sure you know where your towel is!
A sci-fi classic that has spawned its own vocabulary in geekdom. A must read for anyone looking to be relevant in geek culture.
Have the book (compendium), have the audio (casettes), and own the movie. If you ever think that your life is in utter confusion, this story line will convince you otherwise. A wonderfully madcap romp through the universe.
Loved this whole series.
AWESOME WRITER AND AWESOME BOOK
Douglas Adams wrote a very funny story that is funny because of its absurdity.
