Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

A quick strange read.
Who cannot enjoy Douglas Adams’ humor. He was taken from us too soon.
One of the best sci-fi books ever written. Anyone who is a fan of the genre has already read it. Anyone who isn’t a fan of the genre can start here to open up a whole new world of books.
Too funny for words. I still carry a towel with me all the time. LOL
Hilarious
An interesting story of strange people in weird situations. The book was a little Juvenile and silly but it was enjoyable and I’m glad I read it. I find so many references in writing and meeting with people were referring to various things from The Hitchhiker’s Guide.
How do you review Douglas Adams? I’m still grieving the loss of this amazing, completely original, mind. He would have helped us through this difficult time.
Hadn’t aged as much as I feared it had. Still a great book.
A favorite classic of mine, and will always re read it as often as I can!
fun read
What? You haven’t read this yet!
Douglas Adams created a fantastic series of books.
So long ang thanks for all the fish!
Wasn’t for me
The original. “42”, the answer. Rather silly in parts, but overall fun to speculate on what the rest of the universe thinks of Dirt, I mean “Earth”.
A fun classic. Very quotable and kept me laughing.
It’s a parity about life and governments. Similar toGullivers travels in space
Absolutely a treat for those with a slight bend in the view of the world
A classic. Whenever I find someone who has not read this series I am jealous that they get to have the experience of a first reading!
Hilarious great characters lots of satire
There are very few books that make one laugh out loud when you are by yourself. This is one.
